Best Friends

Andre's POV

Both Loraine and Aziel are out of reach.
Their phones are off, they haven't been seen in the workplace for days. Lorrich also asks about his parents, I can't give him an appropriate answer why they haven't called him these days.
This is a bizarre situation. In any case, they would have told me if they were leaving the country, even if it was on a business trip. Nor have this couple ever neglected Lorrich, even now that he lives with me. Since we arrived in New York, the two have been struggling with serious relationship issues, and Loraine got her memory back. Attempts by me to mediate failed hopelessly, Aziel could not vent his heart towards me. And as it turns out, not with Loraine either. This won't end well, I can feel it coming at my toes.
I have avoided alarming our other friends about what’s happening these days. I know how emotional Kaylah reacts to everything Loraine regards, Rick and Kenjal are Aziel's buddies. Now I have no choice but to knock on their door. I have an extra card to unlock it but only use it in emergencies. I mean, I can't invade the couple's privacy by suddenly standing in front of them in the midst of intense lovemaking. Mind you, I wouldn't want that for myself either.
I drive to their house in my blue Rolls Royce Sport.
Yep, I have my own car now, a replica of Kenjal's but different in color. The car dealer eventually had to drive the vehicle from Miami to New York, as we have not been back because of changed circumstances. And since Aziel paid for Kenjal's car, my boyfriend gave me this car as a present. Now that I have New York as my permanent residence, it is convenient that I have my own vehicle instead of borrowing from Aziel.
When I want to park in the driveway, I see the vehicles of Aziel and Loraine there.
Strange! So they are at home.
Then why is their phone disconnected? And their FaceTime account too? What is going on? I quickly get out and run to the front door. I knock loudly, the neighbors two hundred meters away must even hear my hammering. Nothing.
No sound, no picture. I walk around the house, everything is safely sealed. But when I get to the master room window, I hear the air conditioning on. Hmmm, this couple is very sex-driven, we know they are really into it once they get started. But sex cannot last for days, make you turn off your phone permanently, and get you to the point of forgetting your everyday life responsibilities. These two are actually very disciplined, their behavior over the last few days is highly odd.
I tap the window, but there is no response. It is also remarkably quiet in the room, perhaps they are in deep rest. Still, I'm sure Aziel must have heard the sound at the window if he's in the room too. I don't trust this, I decide to use my free access.
I swipe at the back door, and as I open it, I call them out loud.
Still no response. As a backup I grab my phone and call Kenjal. “There is something strange going on here at Aziel’s house. The airco is on but there is no response. I'm going into the house to take a look," I let him know. While talking to Kenjal I step further inside. The kitchen is a mess, there are so many dishes in the sink and it smells pretty bad there. I continue to the sitting room, there seems to have also been a storm, pillows are upside down and on the floor, completely different than expected from this couple. But I don't see any sign of burglary, it's just disorderly.
I'm calling out their names much louder now, still nothing. Then I went to the master bedroom where I heard the air conditioning. I knock hard on the door and put my ear against it. Finally, I hear some stumbling, barely perceptible and some moaning.
That is enough.
I smash open the bedroom door with a jerk and what I see there makes the blood rise to my head. Half naked and sweaty, Loraine hangs over the edge of the bed, vomiting and miserable. Her hair hangs wildly around her face, her tanned legs are covered in scratch marks. There are a number of rum bottles on the bed, which indicate that she has been drinking quite a bit.
I run over to her and take her head on my lap. Her eyes are dull, her lips are torn.
“Loraine! What is going on here? Where is Aziel?” I ask urgently, not knowing whether I should be angry or concerned. I can't believe that Aziel allowed this, that Loraine ingested so much alcohol. She tries to say something but fails miserably. I quickly put her back on the bed, rush into the bathroom and come back with a cold rag. With that, I wipe her face, offering her some cooling.
"Where's Aziel, Loraine?" I insist. “What does this all mean?”
Her lips move but no sound comes out. I get some water from the bathroom, hold her head and give her to drink. Her throat is probably bone dry. “The light is gone,” she whispers incoherently now. Shocked I look at her, it seems as if she is hallucinating. I take my phone out of my pocket again. “Kaylah, I need your help. Loraine is unwell in bed, we have to get her to the hospital”, I tell her hastily.
“On my way”, she answers calmly. While waiting for help, I wipe Loraine’s face repeatedly to cool her down. It looks like she’s developing a fever.
In no time Archer and Kaylah are in the room with me.
“Goodness! How did this come about? Where is Aziel, for God's sake?” Kaylah exclaims. She tries to get Loraine upright. “We will have to call the ambulance. She's so weak. Transporting her will further harm her,” she decides. I'm totally freaked out right now, this seems more severe than I thought. Archer sees my state of mind and calls for an ambulance. While Kaylah stays with Loraine, I search the house with Archer, looking for Aziel.
And then we see the note on the dining table. Archer and I stare at each other in shock.
“Aziel has left”, we both whisper at the same time.
That's why Loraine's light is out...
