The Wrong Man

Loraine runs out of the hotel room furiously.
Tired of his possessiveness, she ended up with a violent altercation with Danner. It feels like if he is holding her captive, she has no friends besides him and he also refuses to buy her a telephone on which she can at least make contact with the rest of the world.
Danner was furious because she was untraceable for nearly an hour during the show. He wanted a detailed report of where she had gone and who she had spoken to. She had flatly refused to tell him that, pointing out that she has a right to privacy since she’s an adult. She also demanded that he give her financial freedom so that she wouldn't have to ask him for money every time she wanted to buy something.
But Danner refused and again came up with the outdated excuse. He kept telling her that she was sick and things would be better when she completely healed. Repeatedly she asked him why they don't just live in a house in a city but just go around with his yacht as if they are homeless. She needs stability, friends and an everyday life. But every time he brushes her off with the argument that she must be patient.
But her patience is running out.
After a raging argument, she now walks down the hotel corridors to the elevator. Next to the hotel she saw a park, where she now wants to take a breather before going back. She sits on a bench, pulling her legs to her. With her head in the hands, she begins to cry in despair, wondering why she can't remember her past. All she knows is that she had a miscarriage and is now rehabilitating. Her tummy is completely tight again, only a few straps reveal that there was a child in her stomach. But that also alienated her. According to the papers she received from the hospital, she was five months pregnant. But the straps are deep as if they've been there much longer than the five months.
What Loraine doesn't realize at the time is that someone is watching her from a hotel room window. “There's Loraine, she seems very upset. I'm going to her," Aziel says as he turns to the door. “Careful with that Danner, he has eyes everywhere. Try to take her elsewhere, out of sight of the hotel”, Andre advises him. Aziel is in the park and strolls over to Loraine in a blink of an eye. Again, he has his sweater and hoodie on. When standing a few meters in front of her, he first takes the time to observe her. It is early in the morning, she has no makeup on her fair face. Everyone can see that she left her room unprepared to relax here in the park.
Aziel moves closer and when he stands in front of her, he’s all smiles. “Hey, on this beautiful day, a beautiful woman is sad. Can I comfort you?” he asks softly. Loraine looks up and loses himself in his blue binoculars. Again, she realizes how handsome he is, even in the early morning. "Depends on. If you can cheer me up, you're welcome," she replies, clearly starting to relax. “Come on, there's a hot dog car around the corner. I haven't had anything yet and I bet you don't either. Shall we give it a try?” he asks with a hand extended to her. She confidently puts her hand in his, their hands intertwining as if they've done it a thousand times before.
Aziel walks with her around a corner where the food truck stands. They have to wait for their turn as many have already discovered the truck and the delicious sandwiches. “Can I have your phone number, Loraine? Then we can call each other when we have time. And then I can comfort you so you don't have to run out into the street," he says with a chuckle. Loraine is embarrassed by his teasing and bows her ashamed.
“I don't always do this, but today I've had enough of all this secrecy around me. My boyfriend refuses me any freedom, I can't even have a phone. At the same time, he follows the world news on his phone all day long. I don't have any friends either and we travel on his boat all the time," she complains. Aziel looks at her with raised eyebrows. “Don't you have any friends? What city are you from?” he asks her. Much to his surprise, she shrugs. “Danner says we're from New York and we live in the suburbs. He has his own business but as I just had a miscarriage, we travel around a bit so I can relax and mentally heal. But I really want to go back to everyday life with friends and socialize. I hate that going around," she pouts.
“Did you tell him that too? I am also from New York and have a transportation company there. I'm here with two friends, they're a couple, so I'm like a fifth wheel on a car”, he smiles at her. A smile slowly appears on the woman's face. “Are they gay? I saw them with you last night, they seem nice,” she notes. It is now their turn to order and Aziel takes a greasy burger with a large hot dog and a soft drink. Loraine chooses the same. As they walk away, she looks at him apologetically. “I also have no money to pay for myself. Anything I need, I have to ask and Danner pays. I'm sorry I made you pay for my food”, she says. Danner looks at her in surprise, his Loraine would never make a point of him paying for her food.
“Hmm, has it always been like this? Don't you work yourself or are you a housewife?” he asks her with downcast eyes. They are now leaning against a pole along the street, eating their burger. It is still early, all the tourists are sleeping off their late-night adventures. Dejectedly, she answers him. "I do not know. I just don't know who I am. Just my name because it's in my passport and that Danner is my fiancé," she replies sadly.
“Sometimes I feel like he's the wrong man, when I sleep or walk next to him, also when we sit at the table and I look at him. Something keeps telling me I'm looking in the wrong face." Aziel chokes on the big bite he took from his burger.
“But maybe Danner is indeed the wrong man,” he still manages to say.
