Danner Arrested!
“Loraine! Quick, to the conference room. NOW!”.
Aziel's voice echoes through my telecom, causing me to drop the file in my hand on the floor. Bewildered, I look around, searching for the fire. So much drama must mean something serious going on. Kaylah storms into my room and pulls me by the hand to the conference room. There are all the staffers are staring at the huge TV on the wall. Aziel takes over from Kaylah, pulls me to the front and turns my face to the screen.
And there I see Danner in handcuffs. My mouth drops open, my eyes almost roll out of their sockets. This can’t be!!
He is escorted by the police to a waiting official car. The whole scene looks so unreal, the distinguished looking man in expensive clothes in a police vehicle. My eyes go wide, I can't comprehend this all. There's breaking news, an update on the serious collision involving the famous Elena Fellogan and her children, the wife of the billionaire Dordrich Fellogan.
“After deft detective work, the police have tracked down the well-known businessman Danner Winfield. He allegedly paid some men to cause the collision. The motive is still unclear, but everything points to a criminal settlement. His target was actually to harm the woman's husband, Dordrich Fellogan. Updates follow.’
A cry unintentionally leaves my mouth, this is unthinkable. Danner, a murderer? Aziel holds me tight so that I don't end up on the floor from misery. "This can not be true! Danner would never have done this, he's not like that. This is a mistake!”, I babble.
“Face it, Loraine, we've been trying to tell you for quite some time that Danner's possessiveness is not normal. This was just coming sooner or later, it doesn't surprise me at all," Damian points out. Some of those present agree with him.
I turn and run to my office to get my personal items. Danner owes me an explanation and I want it now! When I turn around, I see Aziel standing behind me. “Come, I'll take you there. I suspected he was behind this attack, but I didn't want to upset you. His game is over now”, Aziel tells me as we walk to the parking lot. He helps me get in, I can't hold back my tears. I still can't believe Danner is capable of this, he's not a beast. When we arrive at the police headquarters, Aziel does the communication with the detectives. We proceed to the interrogation room where detectives are interviewing Danner.
When I step in, I stare at him, the man I've slept with for many years, had a lot of good memories with is a potential killer. “Danner, why?”, is all I ask him. The other attendees distance themselves from us and listen in.
“Loraine, my beloved. You left me for a married man and never came back. I've done so much to win your love, to bind you to me, but you remained elusive. But Dordrich just came and took everything I wanted in a blink of an eye,” he says with a weary sigh.
“Did you really have to throw away your whole life for that? You have a successful business and a whole future ahead of you. Is all this worth all the loss? Pure jealousy and possessiveness? Have you gone mad, Danner?”, I yell at him.
I can't hold back my tears again. I throw myself on his lap, hug him and cry against his neck. My tears flow from his neck to his expensive shirt, making everything wet. His hands are in shackles, he can't hold me. “Danner, how stupid can you be! Communication solves problems, not violence. See what you've lost in a moment of thoughtlessness. You own so much besides me,” I cry on his shoulder.
“No, love, without you I have nothing. My jealousy made me blind. You met him in China and had sex with him. He spoiled you excessively, he bought you the ruby, also a penthouse and a car like his. Dordrich treated you like his wife, not a lover. That left me distraught, I knew you wouldn't just leave him. I had to take action,” he admits painfully.
“And what have you got now? Your reputation is ruined and I'm even further away from you now. What have you won, Danner, you stupid man!”, I still yell at him. Aziel grabs me by the waist, pulls me away from Danner and hugs me comfortingly. “Control yourself, Loraine. The damage has already been done, there's nothing you can do. Danner chose his own destiny, he knew it could go wrong," he explains, looking straight at Danner.
“Loraine, you are legally the deputy director of my companies and all the departments that if I temporarily lose control of the companies, you will be the sole heiress or ruler. I'm counting on you," Danner says before Aziel carries me out the door. I am inconsolable, this blow hurts and is hard to digest. My feelings for Danner may not run deep, but he has been my good friend and lover for many years. We were even briefly engaged. I didn't wish this for him, I know he faces long detention.
Aziel takes me to his house, I'm too emotional to say anything about that. We eat something without me being able to taste what is on my plate. In the bedroom, he helps me undress and carries me to the bathroom. He's seen me naked in the past, so there's no shame in me over that. After helping me bathe, he works me into his shirt and puts me to bed. Even before my head reaches the pillow, I fall into a deep sleep.
Somewhere during the night, I wake up and feel his warm chest against my back. I turn around and find that soothing warmth before I fall back into the dark sleep. I’m safe here, everyone may leave me, but not Aziel. He is with me forever..
