Beautiful Lady
Eight weeks, two days, twenty hours was the last time I saw her.
The most beautiful woman in the universe, the masterpiece from God's hands. She looks me straight in the eye, I wait for a sign of recognition. It’s not there, but I still see a glimpse of admiration in her eyes. And to me, that’s positive, a step in the right direction. If she's attracted to me, I can use that as a start to deepen our relationship further, just as I planned.
But then that Danner comes in front of her, breaking the magic. That idiot!
Time for the next step.
“Andre, how do we distract Danner that I can talk to her for at least ten minutes? In any case, she has responded positively when she saw me," I whisper enthusiastically. “Let's just wait and see, the night has just begun and they arrived not long ago. They will not leave any time soon, there will definitely come an opportunity when we can distract him," Andre said. Indeed, I must be careful not to get impatient, for that can spoil everything. Just as an hour ago, I took the chance to step in here with Andre and Kenjal anyway, although they urged me to stay back in the room for a while until the coast was clear. But he was too impatient to see Loraine again. This time I intend to follow their advice.
A feeling of satisfaction dispels my despair. My first encounter with Loraine is good, the strong connection between us still exists. With everything in me, I suppress the desire to run to her, taking her comfortingly in my arms and protecting her from that selfish Danner. I wonder if she knows what he's doing to her, my poor baby.
I stand so that Andre and Kenjal hide me from Danner's sight. He's focusing attention on the stage where the show just began. It's a band from the nineties, just too old for us. With a glass of whiskey in hand, I chat with my friends while my eyes remain glued to Loraine. She is breathtaking in that sexy dress she is wearing. She wouldn't dress so daringly before, but hey, she's got the curves in the right place. Her pregnancy has put in some curves, making her look more feminine but still an eye-catcher.
My wife!
If that Danner has put his paws on her, he will pay dearly for it. Drugging and abusing a woman, that coward isn’t even a man! After Loraine's done with him, he can have my share of his beating, I'm certainly not going to spare him. The dumb ass!
Suddenly I see Loraine standing up. As she turns to Danner, her eyes quickly search mine. But I've changed places so that if Danner follows her gaze, he doesn't see me standing there. I can't use that now. With Danner's arm around her, she walks to the dance floor. Hmmm, what a waste. This could have been our chance if we only had a female company to distract Danner.
The three of us walk closer to the dance floor, I make sure I stay out of the picture. Loraine has been dancing in Danner's arms for less than five minutes when I suddenly see a redhead patting Danner’s shoulder. And there is no one but Michel offering to take Loraine from him. My mouth falls open in astonishment. “Hey, isn't that the captain?” I ask Andre in surprise. He and Kenjal also seem to have noticed the man.
Danner has no choice but to let go of Loraine unwillingly. He cannot refuse the lady, bystanders would very much blame him for that. With wide eyes I look at what is happening in front of me and then I see the captain swinging to the music, parting Loraine from Danner's watchful eyes. “This is your chance”, Kenjal whispers. “He's doing it for you. Quick, Aziel."
I don't need a second prompt. I quickly place my glass on a random table and make my way to the end of the dance floor, where Loraine is in the captain's hands. When he sees me coming, he chuckles, whispers something in Loraine's ear and hands her over to me.
She is startled at first when she sees me, but soon her eyes drop shyly.
“Beautiful lady, I've been looking forward to meeting you. I'm Aziel, what's your name?” I ask her as I slowly dance with her towards the emergency exit of the entertainment center. She doesn't even seem to notice that we're leaving the dance floor, she's just staring at me again now. “Loraine”, she whispers to me.
We are now outside in the open air, where a cold wind is blowing. I take off my jacket and put it around her shoulders. “Loraine, how beautiful you are. In the elevator I wanted to take you in my arms. Can I do that now?” I ask her. She nods and continues to stare at me. I gently pull her towards me in a lovely embrace.
“I wish I could hold you like this all my life. Will you marry me, Loraine?” I ask her. She is startled and smiles uncertainly. "You're joking. You saw me for the first time today, remember?!" she says softly, searching my face to see if I'm amused. My voice may sound in love, but in my eyes she must read the seriousness of my proposal.
"I have to go. Danner must be looking for me by now”, she says while she turns to the door.
“I'm in the room one door away from yours. You can visit me whenever you want. You are so welcome and safe as well”, I call after Loraine. She raises her thumb in approval.
When she's entirely out of my sight, I feel the emptiness in my heart again. It’s been hunting me for all those weeks. But this time I take comfort that Loraine is close, within reach.
And be sure that everything will be fine...
