Robert POV:

My mind has been going crazy after visualizing Avaya while climaxing. I have no idea what got into me, but Cleo is the only one for me. I spent years molding her into the perfect woman for me without knowing it until it was too late. Watching the drome recording of Cleo from earlier pisses me off. She is washing those wolves like they are puppies. And the worst part is she looks happy.

On top of all my issues, it is the week's end and McKee should be here any moment. My only hope is that Avaya doesn't do one of her pop-ups while he is here, which I know will happen anyway. The only reason McKee is coming is because he has his doubts about my mission, which is not fair.

Just because his love choose a wolf over him doesn't mean that Cleo will do the same thing. Cleo loves me. How can she not? I was her everything and I can still be again. While lost in my thoughts, I hear vehicles pull up and know it is McKee. I go out to greet my Commander and Chief.

"McKee Sir, how was your ride here?", I asked as I shook his hand.

"Robert, it was great, for once it is good to get out and head to the field where all the action is", he said as I guided him inside.

"Robert, show me a picture of that beautiful wife of yours", he asked.

"Of course, I have one right here", I showed him a picture of Cleo in workout clothes.

"Bas", I heard him whisper.

"What was that", I asked.

"Nothing, she looks like someone I am sure I know. Anyway, let's go over that plan of yours", he says with a sad smile.

We went over my plan. It seems he likes it. However, he insists that there should be another team watching Avaya just in case she decides to double-cross me. Which I know she will try to do. There is no way she will not try to kill Cleo; she hates her with a passion.
McKee POV:

Robert reminds me so much of myself when I was fighting for Bas. I must say it is nice to get out and go onto the field. The last time I was out on a field mission. It was after Bas pack ot attacked by another pack. My team to try and finding Bas or any member of her family. Unfortunately, none of their bodies was found. And it broke my heart to no get to bury her with honors in her family plot. Sadly, I was never able to find her body and once the council made me Commander and Chief of the association, I have been busier inside the association than outside.

Cleo must be an amazing woman. I can't wait to see her. It doesn't take us long to get there. Robert and I greeted each other. I have had thoughts of making him my successor since I had no sons. And I know firsthand how letting daughters become involved in my line of business can be dangerous. When Robert showed me a picture of Cleo, I was shocked she is a lighter version of Bas. I know it can't be since she and her family were slaughtered.

We go over his plan and it is a good one, but he doesn't have a plan just in case that she-wolf double-crosses him. Once I pointed that out, it has been decided that I would be the team leader for the team that would watch Avaya.

Afterward, curiosity got the best of me, and I did some digging on Cleo. No, I am not obsessed with her. It is just that she looks too much like Bas. Maybe she is a distant relative or something. Id she is maybe she can tell me what happened to Bas and her family.

Bas had children one by that asshole John whose heat she cut off. The others were by that wolf. However, the file on her starts when she was in college. There is no other information about her. It seemed like she just popped up out of thin air. Robert never gave me the story of how he met her and right now I think it is time to ask.

“Robert, you know I never got the story on how you and Cleo met’, I said. I noticed the pause in his step.

“I met her on a mission”, he said.

“Really, I didn’t recall seeing that in any of your reports”, I said.

“More like after the mission. I was out for a little rest and recreation. She was a teenager walking home from somewhere. I saw a vampire following her”, he said. I motioned him to go one.

“Teenager?”, I asked.

“Yeah, sixteen I think”, he said thinking about it.

“So, what happened?”, I asked.

Robert tells me how he followed Cleo and the vampire. He said she was so into what she was going that she didn’t realize that he was stalking her. She went into a seven eleven. On her way out the vampire tried to make a move, but Robert stopped him. He said she accidently bumped into him after he killed the vampire.

“Did she what you did?”, I asked.

“No, she was totally obvious to what was going on”, he said. Robert is clearly lying. But I will confirm from Cleo when I see her.

He claims she was homeless and put her up in a hotel for a week. And when he came back to check on her, he felt sorry for her. Later he became her guardian and took care of her. Now that I think about it, he did ask for some time off. But I thought it was for him and his fiancé Vallie.

“So, you took some random teenager in?”, I asked.

“Yes, she needed help. I knew she would last much longer on the streets. Hell, she didn’t realize me, and a vampire was following her”, he said.

“Continue”, I said.

He goes on to tell me that he educated her, gave her some basic combat training so that she could protect herself. Smart, I would have done the same thing. Abrams did that same thing with Bas, and she became the best fighter I have ever known.

“We fell in love. I broke things off with Vallie and focused on Cleo”, he said.

“You do know she might have fell in love with you because of what you did for her”, I said.

“Thats why when her feelings started to show I waited until she was eighteen. Then I waited for her to go to college. I wanted her to make sure she wanted me for me. Not for what I did for her”, he said.

“So, you know nothing of her family?", I asked.

“No, I searched. She never gave me much to work on. But what I can guess they were probably killed by some sort of supernatural. Not vampires but maybe rogue wolves”, he said.

“So, she never knew what you did for a living?”, I asked. After I took over, I gave all of my men the option of telling their wives what they did for a living. Only wives, not girlfriends, or fiancés.

“Not until recently”, he said with a hit of shame. Something happened, something I don’t know.

“Explain”, I ordered.

Fucking hell, he tells me he had a confrontation with the Alpha who have his wife. At the confrontation she found out what he did for a living. Not only her but the Alpha and Beta as well. Who by the way are brothers. If I didn’t understand where his heart is at I would cancel this whole mission.

“So, you are telling me that the Alpha and Beta know there are hunters around here?”, I asked getting mad.

“No, Sir. They think I gave up and left. The last time I saw Cleo was when I gave her the push present, I brought it for her while she was carrying our son. She thought I was saying goodbye and giving up.

“Okay, so she doesn’t expect that you are still here?”, I asked.

“Nope, not at all. I haven't called or texted her since we last met”, he said.

“That is good the element of surprise is always a plus”, I said.

"Commander.... Boss, that woman is here to see you", one of the men called.

"Let her in", we said in unison.

I look over at Robert and he seems to be uneasy about this she wolf coming here. Or is it that she is here while I am here? Whatever the cause for his uneasiness I want to find out. I know Robert is hiding something, and honestly, he is allowed to have secrets we all are. But if his secrets have the potential of interfering in his work it is not good for the association.

Damn, when the woman walked, I can tell she is evil. She looked at both of us with a hint of amusement. I can tell Robert might have made a deal with the devil herself. When all of this is over Robert, I will have to have a talk. And depending on the talk he might be put on leave.
