**Bastet POV **
**Two weeks later **
I am so happy I was able to finally get the playlist done for the wedding. John and I's first dance song will be At Last. The father-daughter dance will be My Girl, my dance with Jason was the hardest to figure out but I did not. Jason and I will dance to You're My Best Friend. I sent John a text to confirm he is okay with the song choices he sent me a thumb upon emoji.
Tonight is my bachelorette party more like a bachelorette/ bachelor party since all the guys Jason included are here. I don’t have many female friends since I am a strong-headed female. The only female friend that I have is Terry she is my maid’s granddaughter. We have been friends since we were little.
She moved away to get married but we kept in touch. She was kind of there for me when my and Jason broke up. I invited her as well, so now we are here at a karaoke bar since John didn’t want me to go to an all-male strip club and I told him that he couldn’t go to a women’s strip club.
“Bas, I can’t believe you are getting married’, Terry said excitedly.
“Tell me about it”, I said with a wide smile.
“You know I always thought you and Jason would find y’all way back to each other”, she said looking serious.
“That didn’t happen, and John is an amazing guy who loves me, and I love him”, I said to her with a smile.
We drove to our favorite karaoke bar honestly; I haven’t been here in a while. Terry, me and Jason use to come here just to be kids. Everyone is supposed to meet there I know Jason will be late as always. When I invited him, he seemed a little distant. I know I have been avoiding him like the plague since John and I made up. I was just trying to make things easier for everyone, trying to not hurt anyone’s feelings, especially mine. I pulled into a parking spot and see Jason's car is here. As Terry and I walk in and suddenly she screams and runs to Jason.
“Oh my God, Jason”, she yells, and everyone looks at her.
“Terry how are you it been like forever”, he said with a smile then our eyes meet and he gave me a nod.
“Everyone this is my friend Terry”, I say introducing her to everyone.
“OUR friend Terry”, Jason said interrupting me.
“Terry this is Michael, San, Zest, Joe, and Pell”, I said with a smile.
“Where is your future hubby?”, she asked.
“I am right here”, John said as he came behind me and kissed me.
“So, Jason now that Bas is off the market are you looking for that special lady”, Terry said with a big smile.
“We shall see”, Jason said as we sat.
We went over the rules. The person to your left will pick your song and vice versa. No one is to know their song until they are on the stage getting ready to sing. I wonder what song John and Jason will since. We drew numbers to determine who would go first and of course, I get to go first.
**McKee POV: **
I haven’t seen Bas since I stupidly sent her back to John. I am not sure if I am avoiding her or if she is avoiding me. I wish we could be us again before everything got messed up. I was surprised when I heard a voice screaming my name. I turn around and see Terry running into me. I haven’t seen her in a very long time. She runs into my arms and we hug. After introductions, we got down to business.
“Ha, Bass got number one and I got the perfect song for her”, Terry said with a laugh.
“Okay here goes nothing”, Bas said as she walked to the stage. Once on the stage she looked at the song and gave Terry a horrid look.
“Really, Terry?”, Bas asked.
“Yup now get to it”, Terry said smiling brightly.
“You are going to love this Jason”, she said as the music starts playing.
“I was riding' shotgun with my hair undone, In the front seat of his car. He’s got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel. The other on my heart I look around, turn the radio down. He says, "Baby, is something wrong? I say, nothing, I was just thinking how we don't have a song. And he says our song is the slamming screen door Sneaking' out late, tapping on your window. When we're on the phone and you talk real slow Cause it's late and your mama doesn't know. Our song is the way you laugh. The first date; Man, I didn't kiss her, and I should have”, And when I got home, 'fore I said “Amen" Asking God if he could play it again”, she sings nervously.
Terry is very funny she knows this song is Bas and I song. We picked this song because it described us at the time. I can tell Bas was reluctant to sing it she was trying her best not to look at me. I look over to John and he is displeased about the song picked. Sooner or later, she will start feeling the song. And when our eyes met she started to sing the song with feeling.
“I was walking' up the front porch steps after everything that day. Had gone all wrong and been trampled on. And lost and thrown away. Got to the hallway, well on my way to my loving' bed I almost didn't notice all the roses and the note that said. Our song is the slamming screen door Sneaking' out late, tapping on your window. When we're on the phone and you talk real slow Cause it's late and your mama doesn't know. Our song is the way you laugh. On the first date; Man, I didn't kiss her, and I should have, And when I got home, 'fore I said “Amen Asking God if he could play it again”, Bas sang with more confidence looking at me.
She had my full attention. I know John was looking at her following her eyes to me. No one else was paying attention besides me, Terry, John and Bas. She looked at me like I was the only person in the room. This is still our song and she is still mine. I made a mental note to thank Terry for her choice of song. She knows how much this song means to Bas and me. I clapped and whistled and noticed John is giving me a death stare.
“I was riding' shotgun with my hair undone in the front seat of his car. I grabbed a pen and an old napkin, and I wrote down our song”, she said ending the song with a wink.
Bas did an amazing job singing. Everyone had their turn Terry song Truth Hurts, Michael's Just the Way You Are, Pell's song U Remind Me, San's song Bye, Bye, Bye, Zest's song Uptown Girl, Joe song Staying Alive, and I sung I Don't Wanna Live Forever. We ate drank and were merry, John won’t leave Bas side and Terry didn’t leave mine.
I know she always had a thing for me, but she knew I was off-limits. As her second, I had to make a toast congratulating them. How the hell am I supposed to do that when I know it should be me, she is marrying? I made a toast and I tried to make it not as dry as I could but thank God Terry helped me out. Two days two fucking days until she is Mrs. Bordeaux.
