Chapter 126: Who To Trust

“Julian??” I questioned him urgently. I don’t know what’s going on but suddenly the man that I thought had come to my rescue has become more threatening than his cracked twin.

Julian stared down at me silently for a few deafeningly silent moments before taking a step closer and kissing my cheek. I flinched when his skin contacted mine. I wasn’t sure what he was going to do. But in the end, he did what he always did. All but for one thing– “I’m sorry, Beautiful. I’ll talk to you later.”

I was stunned. Never has Julian left me before. He was always so obsessed with taking care of me. What the fuck is so important that he’s willing to break his stupid, personal oath?!

Grace giggled as Julian went back up the staircase. The woman I went to the party with and pretended to be her girlfriend was gone now. I never knew that Grace had a side like this. *Was she really that obsessed with me this whole time? Was she using me to let down my guard all those times before this?*

The female twin walked over to the clean dishes and picked up one of the big knives. “Hmm.” the silver blade reflected in her gorgeous blue eyes. “Spotless. For someone who came off the streets, you really know what it means to be clean. Then again, I guess you are used to being thorough.”

*That’s it.* My last nerve had ruptured. Even if my hands were all cut up, I took the rack of dishes and tossed them onto the floor. The glass plates, bowls, and cups shattered with a loud BANG.

Grace jumped in shock at the loud noise and gawked at the mess I made. Her surprise didn’t last long until her viper eyes blazingly glared into my skull. “You fucking piece of–” It wasn’t often I heard Grace curse like a sailor, or like me. She held up her knife threateningly, a hint of insanity that I thought she didn’t have flashed in her eyes. “You’ve really done it now. Dad and Isabella will never forgive you!”

“Fine! Do it!” I defiantly barked. “I’ll make some popcorn and watch!”

My stepsister’s grip tightened around the knife’s handle when she realized her threats were useless now. “Bastard girl. I’ll make you wish you never came back after you burned down that rose garden!”

I took a step backward when Grace stepped forward, knife still pointed at me. *Of all the times for Julian to fucking fuck off!* “I’ll make you wish you never pointed that knife at me!” *Lies.* I can’t be as reckless as I used to be, not while I’m pregnant. Not to mention the constant cleaning and lack of sleep had made me considerably weak.

Grace scoffed. Her demeanor was something I’d never seen her give before. Like Julian, it’s like she just turned into a completely different person. “I’m not afraid of some weaponless whore!” she took quicker steps toward me.

*Oh shit!* I wasn’t sure if she really was going to stab me, but I could take the risk. I glanced for something to fend myself with and kicked a kitchen table down in front of her, making her trip and tumble to the floor. The delicate flower must not have tripped a lot in life because she lay there in a dazed groan. I swiftly snatched up the knife as soon as it clattered on the floor. At the same time, I heard Julian’s feet stomping down the staircase.

“What’s going on in here?!”

Shit. I’m the one holding the knife. Grace sat on the ground with crocodile tears, holding her reddening knee. “She attacked me!”

“Oh, for fuck’s sake!” I snapped and spun to face Julian. “She came at me with this damned thing! I tripped her with the chair to stop her!”

“She’s lying, Julian! You know she’d kill me if she could!”

“Fucking kill you?!” I roared furiously. “Shitface, if I wanted you dead, you would’ve dropped off the map a long time ago!” My shout made Grace cry harder. *Fucking hell!*

This looked as bad as it could get, but I wasn’t about to put the knife down. I still didn’t feel safe. Julian looked between us before heaving a sigh and ruffling his blonde hair. “Grace… we’ve been through this.”

Both of us looked at him with surprise. *Holy shit. He believed me??* Again; I felt relief wash over me, but I had to remind myself that he was more unpredictable than Grace.

Grace gaped, and then angrily yelled at him. “Are you kidding me?! Look at my knee! I can’t walk!”

“Grace… I know for a fact that Suki doesn’t get aggressive if anybody unless she’s provoked.”

Me and Grace were taken off guard, but she soon scowled. I, on the other hand, was still left stunned. I mean, yeah, I guess that’s common sense… but I never really thought about it. To think that Julian would notice a detail like that about me.

My attention turned from Julian to Grace with a heated glare. “Fuck the chores. If you got shit to clean, then do it yourself! Now where the fuck is my phone?!”

Grace stood up with a pained flinch, favoring one leg with a limp. “Down a toilet,” she said with satisfaction. “It’s long gone by now.”

I fell silent, as if my brain was trying to process what she just said. *Did she actually?!* My insides filled with fire as I angrily shouted. “What the fuck were you thinking?!”

Even Julian bitterly frowned. “I was the one who bought that for her. Do you know how much that cost? You should’ve confided in me first.”

*Fucking confided?? Neither of them have no business!*

Grace snorted while crossing her arms again. “As if. We both know you’d take your dog’s side.”

“Fuck the both of you!” I shouted again before storming off upstairs. I was taking advantage of my freedom and looking myself up in my room upon my mom and Gabriel came back home.

“And where the hell do you think you’re going?!” Grace yelled up at me as if she were still in control of me.

“Away from your ugly ass.” I snapped, without looking back.

I heard the scrape of an object against a surface before Julian’s startled shout. “Grace, don’t!”

Before I got the chance to turn my head around, a big glass bowl flew my way and hit me in the back of the head, hard enough for my world to go black for a split second. As soon as I regained focus, I lost my footing on the staircase.
