Chapter 144: Jack’s Murderer Revealed

Julian’s words sounded like they were hinting at something, but my conscious was struggling to comprehend the gruesome truth. “What did you say…? What do you mean?”

“What I mean is,” Julian turned around to face me. “I thought getting rid of that filth would tame you. But I guess not.”

The world collapsed around me as gravity increased to the point I couldn’t breathe. The truth struck me like the car that left Jack for dead in that ditch. My body went numb as I melted in a cold sweat, but it only lasted for a second before that hellish fire inside me burned with madness.

My voice trembled with building rage. “Y–you… killed Jackie?”

“I did what I had to. For you. My one and only Beautiful.” His obsession was outmatched by my fury.

“FUCKING BASTARD!” I roared and fought against my chains, yanking at the bed. “How could you?! I BELIEVED in you! Everything you said to me in that forest–was it just a load of horseshit?!”

“No,” Julian murmured with saddened eyes. “I was just trying to repair what I broke. I’m sorry. I knew this was too soon to tell you.”

I yanked at my chains again. The man was just barely out of my reach. “I’ll kill you! You hear me?! You’re dead! DEAD!”

This time, Julian didn’t look like a wounded puppy when I spat cruel words at him. He looked unaffected, as if he had suddenly stopped caring. “Don’t worry, Beautiful. You’ll see everything in the light soon.”

“Light?! I’mma show you the fucking light!” I yanked against the chains again. I couldn’t even feel the screaming pain my body was suffering. “I’ll make you regret ever looking at me!”

Julian looked like he was going to stroke my face, but he quickly recoiled his hand as soon as I bared my teeth. He’d rather not lose a couple of digits in his hand. “I’ll be right back, Beautiful.” My dread returned when he headed for the door. “I’m afraid I have unfinished business now.”

“Don’t you fucking dare!” I furiously screamed again. “Leave her alone!”

Julian didn’t spare his attention further from me and left the room with growing haste.

“FUCK!” I screamed again. *I need to get out of here!* My gaze went to Julian’s bed. I flew under and grabbed the broken glass. This is it. This is my last chance. I won’t get another. But that’s fine. I started sawing away at the leather dog collar. My bandaged hand was keeping the sharp edges from cutting my skin, but my neck wasn’t as fortunate. With rapid jerks, I could finally cut it loose enough to yank the rest of it off with a *snap.*

Even though my adrenaline rush blocked out the pain, I knew that my body wouldn’t be able to take much more abuse and strain. I still hauled myself up onto my feet once again. My swollen leg trembled under the pressure, but I didn’t care. With a swift limp, I burst out of Julian’s bedroom with the broken piece of mirror still clutched in my hand.

*Jackie…* This whole time, Julian was the killer, and I was rewarding him with my body. I knew Julian had gone far down the wrong road before, but never in my life did I imagine that he’d kill the other man who was in love with me. I can see why Jack was so determined to keep me from breaking up with Julian.

*You already knew how far he’d go, didn’t you…? And you paid the price… I’m so sorry, Jackie. You’re dead because of me…!*

I fiercely rubbed my eyes before they could start to water. This wasn’t the time to show weakness. When limping down the hallways as fast as I could, I heard no second engine start up and I desperately hoped I wasn’t too late. If I were, then I would have to somehow get a hold of Grace's car keys and drive after him.

By the time I made it to the staircase, I heard a car turn on. *No!!* Before I could hurry any further to the garage, Grace appeared around the corner. Shocked, then annoyed. “What the hell? Why are you off your chain, mutt?”

“Get the fuck outta my way, Grace!”

“Are you going after Julian?” Grace crossed her arms. “You’ll never catch up to him now. Your friend is as good as dead.”

“Shut up!” I screamed and pointed the broken mirror shard at her. Grace’s smugness took a nosedive as she took a wary step backwards. “Give me the keys to your fucking car!”

Grace’s startled reaction didn’t take long to turn into a glare. “You think you can stop him? Pfft, don’t kid yourself! You don’t have the nerve–” She gasped when I swung the shard at her and left a tiny slit on her cheek. It was only a tiny trickle of blood, yet she acted like she had just been mortally wounded. Unlike Julian, when I punched her in the gut, she collapsed to the floor when the wind was knocked out of her.

“I don’t get the nerve? You smug fucker.” I could feel pain pulse in my hand with the dislocated thumb this time, but I didn’t regret the force I put into the punch. “Now give me your fucking keys!”

Grace screamed when I stepped on her and yanked her by her hair. I would’ve made a comment ‘I told you I was gonna shave your head’ but I wasn’t in the mood.

“Y–you’ll never catch up.” She huffed as she tried to breathe. “Your friend is as good as dead.”

My teeth grind in fury. “You piece of–” I punched her again, this time in the face. The blood that dripped from her nose was worst that the red beads on her cheek.

*What do I do? What do I do?!* I frantically thought to myself, panic rising. Until I saw a familiar rectangular shape in her pocket. Bingo. I quickly yanked it out and examined it. Seeing that it was one of those fancy phones with fingerprints needed, I forced her thumb into the circle.

“H–hey!” Grace protested.

As soon as her phone was unlocked, I went straight to the contacts and dialed Julian’s number. My heart raced the entire time. *I’m not too late, am I?!*
