Chapter 10

Settling scores.
CHRISTOPHER'S POV
The look the elders wore was not pleasing at all. I should be the one looking that way because I was the one who saw the sign. I was even scared of greeting them so I stood for a while before Adam asked me to sit down.
"Good evening elders." I stammered and Michael looked angry, probably because he thought I will not be able to handle the situation.
"What is the matter? Why are we here today? I mean constantly coming to this place is wearing me out." One of the elders said and I tried to calm him down.
'I had what I will call a terrific experience today." I started and I had all eyes on me save Micheal who already knows what happened.
'We are all ears, speak." One of the elders commanded me.
'I took a stroll earlier today, and as I walked along the road, I saw a woman sitting on the road. I was surprised because I never thought anyone could do that.
I walked to her to know what the problem was but I saw nothing by the time I got to the spot. I became so scared that I ran back to the castle hastily. I think something is not right and we must figure it out soon." I explained while standing on my feet and breathing fast as I relived the encounter.
After narrating the whole incident to them and all that I felt was wrong, I got a very cold response from each of them.
They all stood up one after another and left the conference room. By the time they were all gone, I faced Michael.
"I told you this was no good idea, look how we looked stupid in their sight." I said as I began to pace around the room thinking of what exactly to do.
"There was no harm in giving it a trial though. At least their silence meant that there was no need to panic and that things were in place." He retorted and I saw a bit of sense in what he said.
"This means I have nothing to bother about right?" I told him and his gesture suggested he was saying I don't know.
"Talk to me Michael, I am confused." I further pressed him and he turned to look at me.
"You should not be bothered if you have nothing up your sleeves. My only advice to you today is, get Miriam back." He said and walked to the door.
"Why are you so obsessed with Miriam?" I shouted at him before he could even reach the door.
"Did I hear you say I am obsessed with Miriam?" He asked, turning to face me.
"And I ask you again Michael, why are you so obsessed with Miriam?" I asked in a bid to prove to him that I still have my confidence.
"You would not be this miserable if she was here." He said and walked out of the room. Those words hit me hard. I really missed Miriam but my pride has a great part of me.
Even if I wanted to bring her back, I can't find her because I have no idea of where she might be.
I boiled in anger and as a result I smashed one of the chairs on the wall.
Walking out of the conference room, I met Louise at the door. I just pushed her away and walked back to the garden where I was earlier and then out of the castle.
I didn't know where I was going but I kept at it until it was dark and I was tired. I did it to clear my head, I had a lot going on but I just couldn't tell anyone.
I saw a spot that looked like a hideout and went in. I wanted to be away from the world and all its troubles but I wasn't ready to die.
As I sat there, I saw all that I have been as a result of the little effort I have put in so far and so I told myself that I wasn't going to give up. I will see it to the end.
"This is no battle you can win without help. Seek help." My wolf told me and I became more confused as I thought of what to do and who to meet.
Miriam was always my help. She understands things so easily and offers solutions that always turn out to be the best. But I had lost her because of my selfishness.
"I need to talk to Louise; we need to get things straight and fix it up." I said to myself.
"That's the first step." My wolf said in a tune that sounded like he was proud of me.
Immediately, I stood up from the spot I had seated and dusted my trousers. Then I saw a shiny object lying on the very spot I had sat.
I bent over and picked it up and saw that it was the pendant from the necklace I had given Miriam on our wedding night. That was my wedding gift to her.
Why is this here? I picked it up.
It was still as beautiful as it was the very first day, I saw it lying on the shelf.
I slipped it into my pocket and headed home. It was really dark already so most of the people I met never recognized me as Alpha.
A lot of them greeted me casually while the few that saw my face tried to engage me in a conversation but I was not in the mood for that.
I got home and I saw everyone looking sad and worried.
They were all standing in the compound. Everyone that lived here was present.
"What's going on? Why are you all here?" I asked as I walked in.
Louise sighed and walked out of the gathering. Every other person started leaving one after the other to their respective duty post until it was just Michael, Emily and I.
"No one has still told me what is going on." I asked the duo standing before me.
"It's no surprise that no one told you what happened" Michael asked me so disrespectfully and I wondered why he was becoming so bitter with me.
"Michael," I called out to him but he walked out hastily as though he was rushing off to meet up with some kind of appointment.
"What is wrong with him?" Emily asked me and I shook my head.
"I don't know." I replied as I stared into space.
"We were worried about you. You left without informing anyone and no one could tell where you were so we only stood here brainstorming on what to do." Emily explained and I made her understand that I appreciate their care and concern.
"See you tomorrow brother." She said as she walked into the building.
"Good night, Emily." I responded as I turned around to face the moon that was already shining so bright that you could think it was dawn already.
"The darkest part of the night comes only when light is about to break forth." I heard this clearly in the voice of my father. That seems to be his favourite thing, he never gives up no matter the situation.
"So should you too." My wolf said and I let out a beautiful smile.
Then I decided I was going to face Michael and find out what changed. If it is Miriam, then he would have to choose between me and Miriam.
Having this in mind, I walked into the building, straight to Michael's room but the door was locked. I decided I will stand there until he comes around and I did.
As I stood by the door, I heard voices inside but I couldn't not recognize any of them because they spoke softly. I also could not hear what they were saying no matter how much attention I paid.
After a while they stopped talking and I started hearing footsteps coming towards the door. So I stepped aside and hid by the corner.
I watched Louise walk out of Michael's room with smiles on her face. I almost stopped her to ask her what exactly she wanted but I decided against it.
As soon as she walked away, I rushed to the door and luckily, it was still open. I entered the room and rushed to Michael and punched him hard in the face.
Before he could realise what was happening, I had punched him thrice.
My whole body responded to the emotions immediately and I could see Michael shrink in fear. I just had to control myself before the wolf in me tears him apart.
When he saw that I had suppressed my anger, he spoke out to me.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" He said with some stutter.
I walked to the door and punched it and hurried back to him . He moved away from the spot he was standing to one small corner in the room.
I followed him and stood a few feets away.
'Look, if there is something bothering you, let me know so we can sort it out." Michael stated and I laughed.
I held his throat and lifted him. He began to cough but I wasn't bothered.
'What is your relationship with Miriam?" I asked him and he was quite. He rather looked surprised by the question.
'I have nothing to do with your wife." He responded and angrily I threw him on the bed and punched his face. The punch was so hard that it cut his lower lip. I turned to face the wall, givig him some time to get up.
'You are the one who should be giving me an explanation as to why you were dating Louise secretly." Michael said as he struggled out of the bed.
'How dare you?" I roared but he walked out on me.
