Chapter 19
Lurking danger
CHRISTOPHER'S POV.
I didn't know why I kissed her but I did anyway and I enjoyed the feeling. I haven't been that close to Miriam lately before she left. We were always having one issue or another.
While kissing her, it felt like what I was doing didn't feel right so I pulled away but she came closer and kissed me again.
When I finally pushed her away she stood there licking her lips like she had some candy in her mouth.
"We have to stop this okay? It is not the right thing to do at the moment." I told her but before she could respond, Emily's voice came through.
"It is the best thing for the both of you right now." She said plainly and walked past.
This gave Louise the audacity to grab my head again and kiss me more.
I was finally able to break free from her so I headed to my room so I could have some rest. The little fight I had with Mr James was something I didn't expect and if I had not bit him, he wouldn't have let go of me.
As I walked to my room, I heard footsteps behind me. The footsteps were so calm and collected that it felt like it was Louise coming after me. I mean, only a woman can walk that softly. So I was really determined to stop and ask her to stop following me.
But as I turned it was Michael. Thank goodness I wasn't in a hurry to scream "Louise leave me the hell alone." I screamed at her.
When I saw him, he did not say a single word to me. He quietly followed me into my room and sat on the couch while I locked the door.
"What's going on here? Has Louise moved into your room already?" He asked me as soon as he noticed the changes that Louise had made in the room.
"I was as confused as you are last night when I came in to meet this sight. " I told him and heaved a sigh as I sat on the bed.
'I am not confused. I just wanted to be sure of what is going on between you and Louise so I don't get to barge in uninvited." Michael responded and I felt the anger in his voice.
"Calm down Michael. She isn't that bad, I feel she is just hurt because of her husband's death and needs a shoulder to lean on." I explained to him and he gave me a weird look.
"Why do you feel compelled to do all this for her even at the expense of your own happiness? You were better off than this." He said to me and stood up to give an intense look at the room.
"What are you doing?" I asked him as he moved from one corner of the room to another like a spectator.
"Nothing serious, just admiring the new look of your room. I won't come in again." He said, still looking around.
I knew he was displeased at the turn of things but I really didn't care. I was actually happier than I ever was but as Louise would say, we have to take things slowly at the moment. There was no need for the rush.
"So tell me, when do you intend to have your wedding?" He asked me the moment he returned to his seat.
I looked at his composure and I was certain he was so relaxed. He sat so comfortably and crossed his legs like he owned everything. I felt like scolding him to stop that but on a second thought, no matter how he displayed himself he can never be anything more than my beta.
"I would need to have a meeting with the council of elders before taking any decision whatsoever. I am not in such a hurry to do anything for now." I said as I laid in the bed to relax my back a little.
"Time is of the essence Christopher," Michael who was already on his feet said and I sat up to process the whole thing he said.
"I will give it a thought and speak to you about it some other time." I replied simply as I didn't have any other suitable answer to give to him at the moment.
Then I remembered I left Mr James in the sitting room after our fight.
"Michael, is Mr James still in the sitting room?" I asked him waiting for a reply like he is gone or I sent him out already.
"Mr James? Did you two get into an argument this time again?" He asked, looking surprised.
I just sighed and placed my injured hand, the one Louise had just dressed on display for him.
I expected him to see it and sympathise with me but he didn't notice it at all.
"What really happened?" Michael sounded really curious.
"We had a fight. " I said simply and the reaction I got from him was something I really did not expect. He expressed so much concern that I was beginning to calm him down.
"Why didn't you call me?" He asked and I didn't give him any response.
"Come on Christopher, you should have called me or any one else. What if something unexpected happened?" He said as he folded his fist and punched the bed.
"I could handle him so it wasn't really necessary." I told him and he stood up and headed to the door.
"Where are you going?" I asked as soon as he stood up because I felt he might do something more stupid to Mr James if he meets him there.
"To see if that fool is still in this house." He said as he opened the door and walked out slamming the door like it was the door that offended him.
"Take it easy Michael. " I screamed out but I wasn't sure if he heard me.
After a while, I decided to get up and go after him.
As I walked to the sitting room, the blood stains were still there. I was annoyed.
"Didn't you see this?" I asked, pointing at the blood stains on the ground that was already dry.
He kept bowing and apologizing and promising to clean up and then running away in a hurry.
I rushed down the stairs and I met Michael holding Mr James. I thought Michael was going to help me get revenge, just when I was worried about James' safety, I saw Michael was rescuing him,
Mr James had passed out after the bite I gave him.
"What is wrong with him Michael?" I asked Michael as soon as I got to them because I was utterly confused.
"I don't know, I came in here and met him like this. He wasn't moving, neither was he breathing." Michael said with so much fear and apprehension.
"We must take him to the hospital right now!"
Lousie found that I was in a hurry, ' What's going on?" She asked.
"As you can see Louise, we are trying to save a dying man." Michael responded to her and continued to the door.
"How can you guarantee that you will get to the hospital in time?" She asked us and I saw so much sense in what she just said.
"He might even die before you get to the hospital Since he's not breathing." She said again and Michael stopped at the door.
"So what do we do now?" Michael asked me as he told the housekeeper to move back to the couch and they laid him..
"Let me see how I can help." Louise said and cat walked towards him.
She stood by and looked at him for a while then she ran off to her room.
Michael and I looked at each other in surprise but we had to settle down and wait for what she would do.
She came back with some things in her hands and I wondered where she got them from. I wanted to ask her immediately but I decided to wait until all this was over.
She opened a little tin and scooped the substance in it into her hands. Then she rubbed it in his face and he sneezed immediately.
We were all surprised at the development and she began to dress the wounds at once. After cleaning him up and dressing the wounds, she began to head to her room.
'Wait a minute, what did you just do?" Micheal being as astonished as I was asked.
'It's nothing, that was just a mentholated substance." She answered and walked away.
"What is going on here?" Emily asked as she walked in from only God knows where. Today that no one was able to leave the house she left.
"Nothing serious, he sustained a minor injury." Louise turned back to answer and Emily nodded as she came in.
I went to Louise to ask her when Mr James would be able to wake up.
"I can't really tell Christopher, let's just keep our fingers crossed." She said and slammed the door at my face.
