Chapter 72

MIRIAM'S POV
As I walked from one corner of the house to another, Daniel kept looking at me as his head followed every direction I took.
"Could you please take your eyes off me?" I yelled at him but instead of getting angry, he started laughing and I jumped on him.
He was sitting on the couch and as I added my weight on him, we both sank inside the soft couch.
"What do you want me to do? I can't just sleep since you have literally lost yours." Daniel said and these words were really soothing. It felt good to know that someone actually cares about me and was just as interested in my welfare as I was.
"I love you, Daniel. Thank you so much," I said to him since it was obvious that I was short of the right words to say to him and express my gratitude.
"I got you babe." He said as he touched my cheeks and I chuckled.
"Can we go catch some sleep now?" He asked, pushing me off his body so he could stand up. I got off him and took my own seat.
"It's morning. There is no point sleeping when we have work to do." I protested thinking he would join me in worrying but he was more interested in resting his brain than anything else.
"Take care of yourself, Miriam, and don't forget to call me if you get into any trouble." He walked away from me as I felt lonely that very moment.
I tried to watch the television but I just couldn't concentrate on the program.
My mind was all over the event of yesterday and I was still amazed that I resisted them the way I did. This will tell them that the silver moon pack cannot be toiled with.
"This is what happens when you let me have my way." My wolf said to me and I was reminded of her presence again.
"You didn't put me on notice before striking." I complained and she laughed.
"That's what you get for always restricting me when I want to take action." She said and it explains why she has been quiet all along. It has been my fault all along and I badly regret it.
"I'm really sorry I had always stopped you." I apologised and she took a while before accepting my apology.
"It's fine, I understand you don't want to kick someone's ass and be responsible for their death. But trust me, some people deserve it." She said and I bursted out with laughter.
"Like the guys yesterday, yeah?" I chipped in and continued laughing.
I stayed silent for a while until Ivy walked in. I have not seen her since we came back so I assumed she had left.
"Hey babe." She hailed me and I looked at her with a smile.
"You look beautiful." I gave her a compliment and indeed she was actually beautiful. She wore a black jeans and a white jacket, with a red camisole. Her make up was completely nude and it looked so perfect on her little round face.
She also has a different hair style and I was surprised that Ivy, who loves to appear in a particular way, dressed and looked differently today.
"Thanks." She simply said and I wasn't really pleased with her response. Although I did not expect her to jump on me.
"So what informed your look?" I was eager to know because this did not just come.
"Nothing serious. I just thought I could try out something else." She said, as she adjusted her hair and laid it perfectly on her shoulder.
"I think I should take a picture." I raised my phone but this friend of mine ran away as soon as she saw the camera. I chased her and we ran around the house for a while.
"I have never known you to be picture shy." I said to her as I sat down to catch my breath. I had been running for a few minutes and it was so much of an exercise.
"How did it go?" Ivy asked as she sat down beside me. For a moment, I didn't know what she was talking about but after a little thought, I remembered it was about yesterday.
"Hmmmm, long story babe, but it was all good." I said as I twisted my lips.
"Your father asks to see you." I informed her and she looked at me indifferently without saying anything.
"What is it?" I tapped her but she didn't even shake, not even her gaze, it remained constantly on me.
"Okay, yes I met with your father this morning and he demanded to see you. You can spend as much time as you would want." I spilled and she seems not to be satisfied.
"I thought we agreed we would go to see him together." She said and I felt really guilty for seeing him without her.
So I began to explain to her all that had happened and that it was necessary we stopped by her father's house this morning.
"I will go see him tomorrow." She responded and moved towards the kitchen.
"Please get me a cup of water." I shouted and she picked up a pillow from the couch close to her and threw it at me.
"Good morning, alpha." Trish walked in and greeted me and I just smiled as I saw her face.
"Come here." I opened my arms for a hug and she found herself in my arms within a few seconds.
"How have you been?" She asked as she touched my face.
"I have been doing good." I raised my shoulders and she smiled.
"And your leg?" She pointed at the place I was shot and I raised the leg to look at it.
"I have been running with it." I responded, still looking at my leg and smiling.
"Should I call the doctor to come check it?" She asked as she carried it and placed it on her lap.
"That would not be necessary. The pain is not much." I said as I moved it on her leg just to prove to her that I don't need a doctor for now.
"Alright, I am glad you are good." She muttered.
"Yeah," I said under my breath and she looked keenly at my face such that I was beginning to wonder if something was wrong with me.
"Your eyes are swollen. You need to go to bed right now." She said authoritatively and I couldn't help but smile at her as she gave me the command.
"Let me drink the water Ivy is getting for me. I will go to bed as soon as I finish." I reached an agreement with her and she accepted.
Ivy took so long to come with me water so Trish had to go get it herself.
She came back with a cup of water and handed it over to me. She watched me drink the water as she waited to take the cup away.
As she went to drop the cup, a tall, hefty man walked into my sitting room dressed in an all black attire.
I froze for a moment because I could not understand what was going on. I haven't recovered from the one that happened yesterday and history is about to repeat itself today.
"Good morning, alpha." He greeted me and although I was still very scared and didn't trust him, I tried to open my mouth and responded to his greetings. That's the least I could do.
"Who are you and what do you seek?" I asked the moment I was able to as I tried to regulate my heart beat.
He slid his hand into his jacket as he did, I also prepared to get the gun I had with me out. Just in case he decides to be funny, we would both have scars to remember this day.
"I am a police officer and myself and some of my men have been deployed here. We would be in charge of your security for the time being." He showed me his identity card and I was relaxed so I left the gun which was behind me and rested properly on the couch.
"Thank you so much, I will be looking forward to a beautiful experience with you." I stretched my hand out for a handshake and he took it immediately.
Just then, Trish walked in.
"I see you have met with the leader of the team we alerted yesterday." She announced her presence as she walked into the living room.
"Yeah, it's a good thing you both did. I should be in my room now." I stood up and headed to the stairs while Trish sat back on the couch I just left and got into a conversation with the man who probably stood all through their conversation. Because I spent ample time watching them before moving into my room and dude was standing.
When I got to my door, I saw that the door had been fixed and I was grateful for that because my plan was to change into something light and head to Daniel's room.
It also has new bedsheets and duvet.
"This will help me sleep better and faster." I muttered to myself as I leaned on the door and examined the whole room.
As I entered, I locked the door and went straight to the bathroom. I went to check if I still had anyone hiding in my room. After checking the bathroom, I moved to the closet and also looked through the wardrobe and every corner that could be a hideout.
When I was satisfied that everywhere was safe, I dropped my phone on my bed and started taking off my clothes. It was then I started feeling the weight on my eyes. It was really heavy and it felt like I would not be able to use them if I didn't sleep.
As soon as I got my jeans and jacket off, I jumped on the bed and closed my eyes.
I struggled to sleep for a while, and the thought of leaving the bed came into my mind but I remembered that it would not be a good idea. It was better I laid here and allowed all the cares I had to run through my mind for as long as it can. Maybe I will find sleep along the line.
With that mindset, I took another pillow and covered my face.
Just when I was about to sleep, a heavy wind brushed through my room from the two windows and I jerked up in fear to check what it was.
After satisfying my curiosity, I laid back in bed and this time, it wasn't long before I fell asleep.
I really had a good time even if it was quite short. I slept for barely three hours but when I woke up, it felt like I had been sleeping for a very long time.
I stretched on the bed and reached out for my phone and looked at the time.
"I still have a little more time." I was glad because I intended to check up on Cherry in the hospital. I closed my eyes for a while before standing up like I was being yanked out of the bed.
I rushed into the bathroom to have my bath and for the first time in a long time, I stood under the shower.
I didn't even wear a shower cap because I wanted the water to penetrate into my skull if it could and calm me down.
I had set an alarm for thirty minutes and before the alarm rang, I was already on my way downstairs.
As I walked in, no one was in the living room.
"Ivy says she will be back tomorrow." Daniel's voice came to me from the dining area and I walked to meet him.
I snatched the snack and juice he was having from his hand and started eating them.
He didn't protest, he rather went into the kitchen and brought more cookies for me.
"Thank you." I said as he placed the plate of cookies before me.
"Seems you are on your way out." I looked at him while chewing my food.
"Yeah, I am going to see Cherry." Daniel answered and I was glad he didn't go without me.
"I was actually thinking of going to the same place." I answered.
"I figured you would love to come so I decided to wait." He said and I was impressed. That was so thoughtful of him.
"I will be waiting for you outside." He picked up his phone and walked out of the house. I hurriedly filled my stomach with the junk I had before and rushed out of the house with the cookies I had left on the plate.
"What are you doing with those?" Daniel pointed at the plate in my hand as I walked towards him.
"I will eat them in the car." I told him and he opened the door for me. As I sat in the car, it felt like a screen appeared before me and I saw everything unrest. My heart began to beat fast and I was beginning to shake.
"What is it?" Daniel noticed it as he entered the car but I just couldn't speak to him.
"You don't want to go anymore?" He asked me and I shook my head. After waiting for a reply from me but none came, he started the engine and drove out of the parking lot.
"I will go with you." The police officer I had met earlier stopped us at the gate and insisted on going with us but Daniel declined, assuring him that we could take care of ourselves.
Having convinced him thus, he allowed us to move and Daniel drove out.
"We have a lot before us and we must brace up." I told him and he took a deep breath.
"We must find a way around it." He responded without even looking at me and I had some assurance that everything was going to be fine.
The drive to the hospital was quite long even if the distance was not actually much.
When we got there, Daniel came down from the car and opened the door for me.
Then he held my hand as he helped me come out of the car. He saw that I was weak and so he didn't leave my hand even as we walked into the hospital building.
As we entered, we sat at the reception waiting for our turn to be attended to as the crowd was so much. Within this period of waiting, my head was on Daniel's shoulder and he held me by my waist.
Occasionally, he kept assuring me that everything would be fine and I tried to build my confidence around it.
"Mr Daniel." I heard someone call Daniel's name so I raised my head and saw it was a doctor. .
Daniel stood up and shook hands with him and they started chatting although I did not hear a word of their conversation.
"Let's go, Miriam." He raised me up and we headed to the ward where Cherry was kept. By the time we got there, Cherry was already up. As a matter of fact, she was sitting on the bed as we got there. She started smiling the moment she saw us and I ran into her already spread arms and hugged her.
Holding her in my arms was such a relief and I felt much better seeing her hail and hearty.
Daniel smiled as he wrapped his hand around us.
"I was scared I would lose you." I said to Cherry as I squeezed her tightly.
"Ouch,,," she shifted and snatched herself from my hand as I mistakenly held her too tightly.
I looked at her and apart from the injury on her shoulder that was bandaged, there was no other injury.
"How long will she be here?" Daniel asked the doctor that had brought us in and he told him he wasn't sure yet.
"Come on Daniel, she has to recover, besides she just got here." I punched him lightly and he shrugged.
I looked into Cherry's face and I couldn't help but admire her bright eyes.
"Thank you for living," I told Cherry, whose hands I was still holding.
She began to laugh and I joined her.
Daniel walked out of the room leaving just the two of us.
"Where is he going? " She pointed towards the door and as I turned, Daniel was already out of the room.
"I have no idea but I am sure he will be good." I assured her and she chuckled.
"So tell me, how did that man get into my room?" I asked her but instead of responding promptly, she moved close to me and hugged me again.
"Thank you for saving me Miriam." She said and tears were already rolling down her face.
"I should be the one thanking you for staying strong." I told her as we pulled out of each other's arms and faced ourselves.
A beautiful smile escaped from her lips and I smiled back.
After drying her face with a towel, she told me that she met him in the room. He obviously got in before she did because he came out of the closet.
"No one would ever bother you again, I promise." I made it clear to her that I will always protect her. She expressed so much gratitude.
"How is everything at home? And who were those men?" She asked and I was surprised that she didn't know they were the rebels we had always been talking about.
"They are the rebels. But don't worry, we are dealing with them already." I said and her face changed immediately and I was bothered so I asked her what the matter was.
"They did this to you right?" She pointed at my leg and I tried to get her attention from it but she wouldn't give in.
"I am fine." I tried to clear all the doubts in her mind and Daniel walked in with a bag in his hand.
