Chapter 23

Cracking the wall.
MIRIAM'S POV
Daniel is used to being very apprehensive about situations that are even very normal. I kept on laughing at him as he tried to catch his breath. This is not the first time he is doing this. I can say he is good at this.
'Are you done laughing?" He asked me sarcastically when he was stable already.
'Well, I am not responding to that question." I answered, and he walked towards the door.
'Who do you have there?" I asked, as he was about to get to the door.
'Some friends." He responded and opened the door.
'You know them, don't you?" He asked as he turned around to look at me.
'I can recognise them, but I can't recall their names." I said as I took my seat.
'Don't bother yourself too much, just relax." He said as he walked out of the living room.
I just sat there staring into space and thinking about my whole life. The changes that have come to stay and the fact that I can do nothing but accept them..
I bent down to look at my stomach and I couldn't help but laugh at myself.
I called out to one of the servants whose voice I heard to get me a glass of water, and she did so immediately.
'Are you very busy there?" I asked her and she nodded, insinuating she was less busy.
'Alright then, come back with a bottle of wine and two glasses." I told her and she walked away. Then she turned around almost immediately.
She gave me a concern look, "You are pregnant. Taking alcohol is not advisable." She responded, and I smiled.
'Well, I know, but that is exactly what my body needs right now." I said to her, yet she still looked at me like I was some clown.
Yes, I know I was about doing the wrong thing, but that is exactly what I need right now.
'Alright, I promise I will not take it again." I said, but she was still hesitant to go get it.
'Should I go get it myself?" I asked her and she moved to get it immediately.
I sat there, switched on the television, and started watching a program. It used to be my favourite soap opera. I only stopped watching it when I married Chris. We barely had time for things like this.
Moments later, the servant came in with a tray containing the bottle of wine I asked her to bring and the two glasses.
She dropped it on the stool beside me and turned around to leave.
'Please come back." I called out to her because she was already walking out of the living room.
'Yes ma." She responded as she came back.
'Please sit and serve the drink." I told her and she stood to open and serve the drink instead of sitting. I decided to allow her to finish before telling her to sit again.
'Please sit down, we need to talk." I told her and she gave me a surprise look and I actually expected it.
She reluctantly sat down and was almost shaking.
I tried to calm her down and eventually she became settled. After a while, we resumed our discussion.
'Why are you scared? I am not going to harm you. So please relax." I told her.
'I'm not scared. I just have never been opportuned to sit with an alpha all my life." She said and I smiled.
'Don't worry, it fine here." I told her and she smiled at me.
I took a glass of the drink and took a sip.
'The other glass is for you. Come on, take it." I told her.
'I thought you were expecting a guest." She said.
' No I'm not, so be my guest." I responded with a beautiful and reassuring smile and she smiled too.
'Okay. Thank you." She said and grabbed the glass immediately. I was happy to see her relaxed and really happy.
'I need a talk." I told her as she sipped her drink.
'Okay, " She said plainly and I was pleased with her response.
'What do you think of me?" I asked her as I poured another wine. I had finished the one she served me with.
'You are...you are..." She stuttered and I almost laughed at her. I didn't know why I was feeling that way. I was damn happy.
'You know what? Take your time." I responded as I enjoyed my drink.
Daniel and his friends were still talking as I stood at the veranda.
I walked up to them to say hello and then started walking around the compound. It has been a long time since I walked around here.
'I am sure they were surprised to see me as they looked at me awkwardly and they were right about how they felt." I said to myself as I turned around to look at them.
As I moved around, I noticed there were some changes. Daniel has done some good renovations around here and it was so beautiful. I really loved them.
After taking a little walk, I decided to go back inside. I felt I had given the servants some good time to relax and think about what I asked her.
By the time I entered the living room, she was still there taking her drink.
'Hey, I'm back." I announced as I entered the room.
She was a bit startled because she didn't see me come in. Even when I stood at the door staring at her and watching her enjoy her drink for a while.
'Well I have thought about it and I must say you are a good person. We really enjoyed you while you were here with us as alpha and you have grown to be better now." She said and I was really impressed.
'So what do you think about me being pregnant? Can I still execute my duties as alpha even with this?" I asked her and she smiled.
' Yes you can and I believe so much in you." She said as she took another sip from her glass.
I began to hope that she was actually saying these things with a sound mind because she sounded like she was talking because she had had too much to drink.
'Alright, thank you so much. We will still have this conversation another time." I told her and she took the tray away.
I sat down on the couch holding my head because I was feeling a bit dizzy.
'Gosh, why am I feeling this way?" I asked myself as I sat down on the couch.
The servant hurried to me to check what was wrong with me.
'I'm feeling dizzy." I told her.
'It's because of the pregnancy." She told me and helped me to lie down on the couch.
I felt a bit better as soon as I laid down on the couch to relax.
She then went out to call Daniel who was already on his way out because he had discharged his friends.
'What's wrong with her? He asked as he entered the living room in a rush.
'She is feeling dizzy. I think she needs rest." She answered him and bent over to massage my shoulders.
It became so intense that I felt like throwing up.
Seeing that I was already feeling uneasy, she helped me up and led me to the bathroom where I was able to empty the content of my stomach.
After that I felt really better and she led me to my room. On our way, Daniel came along and swept me off my feet.
He carried me to my room and laid me peacefully on my bed.
'You should not be stressing yourself, you know? If you need anything, do well to call me. I am always available." Daniel said with a beautiful smile on his face.
' You need a personal maid." He stated.
'I can be her personal maid if you don't mind." The servant chipped in immediately and said that.
'Miriam?" Daniel said, looking at me. I didn't know how to respond to that question but the truth is that I was beginning to get acquainted with this lady standing here smiling sheepishly before me.
'I think I would like to work with her." I responded in a whisper and Daniel's face widened with a smile.
'I think you both have been up to something lately." He said as he continued smiling.
' Our little secret." She said with chuckles and I was surprised that she was that happy and free with me already. This is a lady that was shivering before me about an hour ago and I couldn't help but laugh out loud.
'I see. Well that's fine, please leave us, we have something important to talk about, I will call you when she needs you?" Daniel told the servant and she walked out of the room wriggling her body happily.
'What is wrong with her?" I asked Daniel while I was still laughing.
'I don't know." He answered.
' I think I like her already, what is her name?" I said as I tried to sit up on the bed.
' I don't think I know her name, you should ask her yourself." He chuckled and I gave him a light punch on his arm.
'Thank you Daniel, I love you." I told him as I squeezed his hand.
'You have to brace up Miriam. Like I told you the other time, the council of elders have lost their confidence in you and you must do all you can to make them believe that you can do what you were born to do." He said as he held me in a tight embrace.
Tears streamed down my face as I could not fight it no matter how hard I tried. I held him closer and I was more than pleased to be with someone like him.
'Tell me what I need to do and I promise to make you proud." I told him whilst I was still holding him.
'I know you will. All you have to do is follow my lead." He said as he pulled away.
'I need those instructions. Please tell me, I need to start now." I told him expecting a full time lecture from him but instead he smiled again and held me closer.
'Don't pamper me Daniel. I am strong enough to take up responsibilities so please tell me what I must do." I insisted but he kept on patting my back telling me to calm down.
'Let me go get you something to eat." He said as he pulled away.
I didn't want to let him go but I just had to. He left the room and the servant I had been with came in about thirty minutes later with food for me.
I ate to my satisfaction and slept off immediately after my meal. It felt like I have been doped.
