Chapter 34

MIRIAM'S POV
I couldn't tell how much I slept but I am sure I have slept for a very long time already. It didn't look like the day I was injected with whatever it is that the nurse injected me with.
My eyes were heavy and it felt as though it was falling off its socket. I didn't know what was going on as I turned around in the bed I was laid on.
All I could remember was the fact that I was sitting on a stool and the nurse was busy massaging my hand.
"How come I am lying down? I was sitting on a stool." I mumbled as I tried to open my eyes. I wanted to sit up too but the kind of pain that I felt at my back made me change my mind and relaxed properly on the bed.
"It's because you fell asleep. That is why you were laid here." A voice that sounded like Trish answered and I opened my eyes properly to check if she was the one and she obviously was.
"What changed your voice?" I asked her because it sounded very different.
"Nothing changed my voice, maybe you didn't hear me well." She answered as she rubbed my hand.
"Where is the nurse? And the doctor, please tell him I said I want to go home." I told her and she stood up to go deliver my message.
"Please wait a minute, is Daniel not here yet? Or didn't you call him?" I asked her again and she turned slowly and walked up to me.
"Daniel was here yesterday as soon as I called. But you were fast asleep and the doctor said you needed medication attention so we couldn't take you home." She answered as she sat by my side.
"I have to leave this place at once. Please go tell the doctor I said that." I ordered and she stood up at once and headed out of the room.
Now I was thirsty, I turned around and saw the bottle of water on the fridge at a corner in the room but I couldn't reach it. I was too tired to even move my bones.
I decided to wait patiently for Trish to come back but she didn't come back early enough.
When she came back, the doctor came in after her accompanied by two other nurses. I wanted to scream at them for injecting me with a drug that doped me. But before I could say a word, the doctor shut me up with a beautiful smile.
"How are you doing, Miriam?" He asked but I just couldn't give him any response. I just smiled in return and he began to check me.
"Where is my nurse?" I asked him and he smiled and told me she was on shift.
"What did she inject me with?" I asked and he continued smiling.
"That was to help you relax. We found that you were stressed out and a bit very nervous and that is not what is best for you at this stage." He said after checking me.
"How old is the pregnancy?" I asked him because I was curious about how long I still had to carry this child in my womb.
"You are in your second trimester. You should be moving to the last in a few weeks from now." He answered with a smile and I wondered if all he was paid to do was smile.
"You need to eat something before you can take these drugs. Please get her something to eat." He turned to Trish and she nodded.
Then he walked out of the room and the nurses followed him along with all the drugs and injections they came in with.
"So what should I get for you to eat?" Trish asked me and I was confused. I didn't know what I wanted.
"Look, I still have your cheesecake." She announced as she dangled the pack of cheesecake before me.
"No, I don't want that. Get me oats or maybe pancakes and a cup of coffee." I told her and she gave me a smile.
"Is that all Miriam?" Trish inquired as she picked up her bag and was ready to leave.
"What if I add a pack of orange juice?" She chipped in as she got to the door.
"That would be nice." I said and she walked out of the room.
I was able to sit up now so I sat down on the bed staring at my swollen legs.
"This was what I told that nurse to do but she didn't." I sighed as I stretched my hand to reach the leg but I couldn't. I had to cover it with a blanket because the sight of it was annoying me.
Just then, the door flung open and Cherry and Daniel walked in.
"What a relief." I said under my breath as I saw them coming towards me.
Cherry had a big bag in her hand and Daniel too had another in his hand. Cherry dropped the bag in her hand and hurried to give me a hug. Daniel sat on the stool I sat yesterday before I was made to sleep and watched us.
"This is one of the most beautiful moments I have witnessed." Daniel said as he brought out his phone and took us a picture.
"Take a look." He brought the phone closer and showed us the picture he took of us while we were in each other's arms.
"This is lovely." Cherry praised the picture and I just smiled.
"Where is Ivy?" I asked both of them because I had not seen her for a while. The last time I saw her was that night they had that reflection.
"She is out with Trish. They will be back soon." Cherry responded as she started unpacking the bag she came in with.
"You saw Trish?" I asked and they both nodded.
"She told us she needed to get you some oats and pancakes so we had to let her go get it since we didn't have any of those here." Daniel explained as he walked around the room, inspecting every part of it.
"I thought she had forgotten about me already." I mumbled like a baby seeking for nothing but attention and I really needed all the attention I can ever get.
"Here you go." Cherry said, handing me a cup of smoothie she came with.
"Thank you Cherry." I thanked her as I began to sip the drink slowly.
"From the look of things, we would have to postpone your meeting with the council of elders." Daniel said after scanning the whole room to his satisfaction.
"I don't think that will be a good idea. I don't mind coming from the hospital on that day just to attend the meeting." I protested and he remained silent.
"You should concentrate on getting better first." Cherry admonished me and I really hated that feeling of being sick. It was the baby that wasn't in a good condition and not me.
"So what's going on at the moment?" I asked because I have been away for a day already and I am certain a lot must have transpired already.
"Nothing serious, I have informed the council of elders about your meeting with them this weekend which is actually the day after tomorrow." Daniel responded and I grinded my teeth. I never thought it was that close already. However, I am prepared for it.
"I'm prepared, so no worries." I said and Cherry cheered me up.
"I was also informed that your mate will be getting married soon." Daniel added after taking the glass of smoothie which was almost empty from my hand.
"I don't have a mate." I responded in the most awkward manner I could ever think of.
"Sorry for the mix-up." He apologised and I smirked.
We all stayed quiet for a while. I didn't know what Daniel and Cherry had on their minds but I was just here thinking about who Christopher will be getting married to.
"You are not going to tell him about the baby are you?" Cherry chipped in breaking the silence that was already becoming a part of us.
"No I am not." I simply responded and she looked surprised.
"I hear he is the alpha of the blood moon pack, and that's his heir." Cherry shrugged and I was just wondering why she was so stupid to think I would allow my child to be Christopher's heir, not after all he did to me.
"Well, he is going to know he has an heir only if you tell him." I told her just so she would know that if Chris happens to know about my child, she is to blame.
"I'm not telling him about the child, I was just curious you might want him to have it." She added.
"Were you told who he is getting married to?" I asked Daniel and he nodded negatively.
After asking him that, I was surprised I did because truth be told, I really didn't care about Chris or whatever became of him anymore. I am more focused on my life now and all I can get out of it.
I stayed in my head rehearsing everything I would want to say to the council of elders, assuring myself of how confident I am and how much I am going to take charge of the situation.
It felt as if I was before them already, addressing them and announcing to them the terms on which we would be operating from this time hence forth. I'm so done with being and feeling unfortunate before them. It was time to reign.
I was so lost in thoughts that I didn't notice Trish and Ivy were here with us already. My wolf was busy giving me lots of advice on how I would do things and I couldn't help but laugh at some of them.
It was while I was laughing that I realised that they were all looking at me like someone that was insane or something.
I had to stop and look at them too.
"Welcome back." Ivy started as soon as I became conscious of my environment again.
Cherry, Daniel and Trish started laughing and I was already feeling humiliated.
"Here is your oat," Trish handed me some oats and I just kept staring at the package in my hand.
"And the pancakes?" I inquired.
"We could not get your preference." Ivy added and I dropped the oat on the bed and asked Cherry to give me more smoothies.
She poured another full glass and handed it to me.
"It's actually true pregnant women eat a lot." Ivy said as she prepared the oats for me.
"You have no idea." Cherry told her and turned te with a beautiful smile.
"So tell us, what have you been doing?" Ivy asked me and I was a bit confused.
"What do you mean by that?" I retorted and she cleared her throat before speaking again.
"The doctor said that the baby is not doing well. You as a mother should know what went wrong." She explained and I ignored her question for a while as I was tryna to relax on the bed.
"That was why I requested to be brought to the hospital yesterday." I gave a simple and straightforward answer and closed my eyes. The aim was to make sure I don't get more questions from them again.
Just then, there was a knock on the door but I didn't open my eyes to see who it was when I heard the door open.
"You will have to excuse us for a while." The doctor said and I pretended to be sleeping hoping he would just let me be and not touch my stomach again.
"How is she doing, doctor?" Daniel asked as soon as the doctor dropped his instruction.
"She is perfect." He said and I could feel his shadow cover me.
"And the baby?" Cherry added.
"Much better than yesterday." The doctor said as he moved closer to me and stood above my head.
"Do we still have to leave?" Trish asked but the doctor would not say anything.
I tried to open my eyes partly to see what was going on but I could see only Ivy standing at a corner pressing her phone.
"She can be discharged tonight, but you all would have to keep an eye on her because any slight mistake could cost her the baby." The doctor said and walked out of the room almost immediately after that because I didn't hear his voice again. I only heard chatters from my entourage.
"My heart skipped at the doctor's statements and I promised myself to be as careful as possible so that nothing dangerous happens to the child.
From pretending to be asleep, I fell into a deep sleep, as I did not even know when we left the hospital or when we got home.
As I opened my eyes, I found myself in my room and my head banged as though I had a hangover.
Cherry and Trish were sitting on the bed watching me. As I looked further, I saw Ivy on a stool, resting her head on the dressing table.
"Hey girls," I called out to them and the attention they all gave me told a lot about how much they cared about me.
"You girls are looking tired and sleepy, please go and rest, I will take it from here." I told them as I became wide awake but they refused. It took a heated argument before they carried their tired bodies out of my room.
I was still lying on the bed hoping the night would just pass in a twinkle of an eye but the time was nowhere close to dawn.
Since I was bored, I had to walk to the store room and started going through the documents there. It was as though I was looking for something but I did not have anything in mind.
I just kept skimming through each folder I pulled out until everything on the shelf was down.
The exercise was profitable at the end of the day. It helped me boost my confidence as I saw the records of my previous deeds and I was determined to do more moving forward.
I got out of the store room after making sure I arranged the documents. This was one reserved room in this house and only Daniel and I had access to it.
Not cleaning it up would mean making Daniel go through the stress of arranging it tomorrow because he would not let anyone else do it.
Thereafter, I walked to the sitting room and sat down. Just as I was about to turn on the television, Daniel walked in.
"You know you don't have to be awake right?" He asked as he squeezed his eyes with both hands and yawned alongside.
"Don't you think I have slept enough?" I asked him as he sat beside me and pulled me into his arms.
"So long as it would keep the baby safe, you would have to do it." He said as I laid on his chest and closed my eyes.
