Chapter 82
MIRIAM'S POV.
All that was on my mind as I stood before Christopher and watched him say my name like it meant anything to him was to tear him apart. He is the last person I really wanted to see right now. Not necessarily because of what he did to me earlier, but because I was beginning to think of him lately and I was scared I might lose it and fall for whatever trash he would say to me.
He tried to come close to me but I stopped him and Daniel stood to his feet and stood between us. Thus we could not see ourselves directly.
"I think you should leave." I said and turned back to leave.
As though Daniel was waiting for me to give that instruction, he faced Chris and repeated my statement to him. Instead of leaving, Christopher began to challenge Daniel, telling him that he could not stop him from seeing his wife.
"Miriam, what is he saying." Daniel asked me as I was still standing by waiting for Christopher to leave. I looked at Daniel and with the look he wore, he badly demanded answers.
"He is Christopher." I said counting the words and it was as though that statement disarmed Daniel as he stopped pushing Christopher to leave. Instead he walked out of the living room.
"Just pray it is nothing serious." I yelled at Christopher as I ran after Daniel who walked so fast that I could not catch up with him.
I met him sitting on the bed in his room. I walked in and stood at a spot.
"Have you discharged him already?" He asked me as I stood right in his face.
"No, I haven't. Why did you walk out?" I said as I still moved closer.
"Look Miriam, don't think I am mad at you because I am not. I just walked out because that is your husband and no matter what, you are still his Luna." He told me and I got the assurance I needed to speak to Chris.
"So you think I should speak to him?" I asked just to have him repeat himself so I could be sure of what I am doing.
"Yeah, why not. It could give you an opportunity to talk about your divorce too." Daniel emphasised his earlier position and I was so glad he did.
"Thank you." I thanked him and asked him to join me in the living room but he refused.
"There is no way he can hurt you here. I am very sure of that. So don't get scared, just go. And don't forget to call me if it becomes uncomfortable. " Daniel said and I smiled as I went back to the living room to meet Christopher.
He jumped on his feet as soon as he saw me walk towards him.
"You still haven't told me what you are doing here." I told him with a very serious tone that anyone that walked in would doubt that we had once shared our bodies.
"That's because you haven't given me the opportunity to express myself to that extent." He said and I took my seat while he was still standing.
"Please sit down, Chris," I said to him and he resumed his seat. He looked at me, probably waiting for me to ask him to start the tale that brought him here. But I didn't, I waited for him to speak and I decided that if after waiting for a while and he does not say something, I would be left with no option than to point the door to him.
"I learnt you are the Alpha of the silver moon pack." He commented and I felt a cloud of pride roll over and rest on me.
"Yes, I am the omega alpha." I said with pride in every sense of the word. He looked at me for a while and I supposed what was on his mind was whether or not he should say something further.
It was clear I was no longer the Miriam he toiled with. Things are different now and he must act accordingly.
"How come you never told me? Or you think I didn't deserve to know?" He asked me, sounding like he is judging me for keeping things away from him.
"You should know better than accuse me of secrecy." I blasted him and he was quiet for a while. During the period we were still together, I cannot count how many times I made discoveries about Chris that he never told me.
He looked up to me and bent his face again. I waited for him to raise his face so we could continue with the conversation.
"I'm sorry, Miriam. I should not have done most of the things I did, but it's too late already." He apologised to me and lamented about his present condition which didn't sound so good at the moment.
"I'm not mad at you. Even if I was, not anymore." I tried to say something good to him and I was glad to see him brighten up a bit.
"How is everything?" I asked and he took a deep breath without saying something. His gestures suggested that all was not well so I decided not to bother him about the details.
"How did you find me?" I asked him as that should also answer the question I asked earlier.
"I need to get married to Louise just so I can get an heir. While the preparation was on, it was discovered that you are my only Luna and cannot be replaced. So we must have a proper divorce so I can continue the process." He said and just this statement tells it all. The fact that he said he needed an heir reminded me that he actually had one but I didn't tell him about it.
"What if I don't grant you the request?" I tried to pull his legs and he fell for it.
"I knew you would not. I just thought I should try." He said and I laughed my lungs out. I wondered whether he is serious and with the look on his face, Christopher has never been more serious.
After laughing, I asked him if he really loved Louise and wanted to do this with her and he told me he doesn't have a choice.
"What do you mean by you don't have a choice and as such you must marry her?" I shouted because I just didn't understand what obligation he owes her that has gotten to this extent.
He smiled at me but said nothing. I stood up from my seat and started pacing around. He watched me as I moved from one corner to another.
"Please Miriam, do me this one favour, or will you be willing to come back to me?" He asked me and I was more than surprised to hear him say that. What one earth will make him think I would stoop so low to come back to him after everything he made me go through in the hands of his sister and Louise.
Maybe if he had added some value to me, they too should have treated me with some regard.
"I will grant you your request, but there is a condition attached to it." I said and he stood up and walked towards me immediately.
"I will join you to fight the rebels in exchange for our divorce?" He spoke my mind and I was amazed at how smart he is.
"How smart can you be?" I commended him and he gave me a weak smile. Christopher was always uninterested in matters of governance and administration. His beta did almost everything for him and so I began to wonder how he will cope without Michael in his life.
"I have always had that in mind. I harboured this thought from the time we started hearing rumours of the rebels attacking. I told myself I will join the alpha of the silver moon pack to take them down." He started and just smiled at the sense of responsibility that Christopher has decided to imbibe. This is new and impressive.
"And?" I chipped in after he took a long pause and his statement seemed unfinished.
"So I came in search of the alpha and I found you. Working with you to bring down the rebels was never part of the plan but I don't have a choice. I can't let Mr James have a taste of anything related to power in any of the packs." He said and I was pleased.
"So what do you have in place already?" I asked him as I walked to the bar and got a drink with three glasses.
When I got back, I remembered that Daniel needed to be here, so I stopped him when he wanted to start speaking and called one of the servants to go get Daniel. He hurried off while I engaged Chris in another conversation while waiting for Daniel's arrival.
"I am sure you know that we have very limited time at our disposal and if we must succeed against the rebels we must start as early as possible." I stated as I struggled to open the drink. He offered to help but I declined and continued battling with the bottle until I prevailed over it.
I poured some into one of the glasses and handed it over to him. He started drinking it as soon as the glass touched his hand. I also poured some in another glass for myself and started sipping it gradually until Daniel met us.
"Hey, Miriam, you called." He said as he stood behind me as my attention wasn't in his direction. I concentrated on this man of mine that I once meant the world to.
"Please come sit down Daniel, we have something really important to talk about." I said to Daniel as I tapped the empty space in the couch I was sitting on and he joined me. He reached out for the drink and poured himself a glass.
"And what could that be?" He asked with so much seriousness.
"He will tell us." I said as I pointed at Christopher who was trying to fill his empty glass again.
Daniel raised his glass to his mouth and drank from it.
"I want to join forces with you to take down the rebels." Christopher announced and Daniel looked surprised. I was shocked to see the expression on Daniel's face. I expected him to be glad as this was the help we have been waiting for.
"Who sent you?" Daniel stood up on his feet and roared. I became terrified at that moment. I tried to ask him what the matter was but he was more focused on Christopher.
"What do you mean? I am the alpha of the blood moon pack and I have come to declare my unflinching support to get down the rebels, although it is attached with a condition, which is a proper divorce with Miriam." He elaborately explained to Daniel who was just not satisfied with his answer.
"Tell me what the problem is Daniel." I faced Daniel and he sat down first and tried to catch his breath as he was angry and thus he was breathing really hard. When he was finally calm he tried to talk but he couldn't. He had to stand up and walk around for a while.
"I hope you have no ulterior motives?" I turned to Chris and he looked as calm as a dove.
Just at that moment, Daniel walked in looking more relaxed.
"Information reaching me is that the blood moon pack has decided to join the rebels to fight against us." Daniel said and I dropped the glass in my hand.
"That's not true, that's not true. I,,," he started.
"Can you just zip it?" I screamed and I saw Christopher tremble before me. I didn't intend to make him appear that weak but he called for it by thinking he can fool me.
"Look Miriam, just listen to me, I will tell you everything and how it all started." He begged and I was too angry to sit another moment with him. As as matter of urgency, I asked him out because I felt he may do something stupid or harm me.
Daniel however began to plead on his behalf and they both prevailed over me to allow him speak.
"Yes, the rebels have been on my neck to join them even before the beginning of this whole thing. But I have always said no each time Mr James brings up the matter." He said and I found it difficult to believe a word of what he just said.
"And what about the agreement your pack had with them?" Daniel asked him and he filled his glass one more time, drank from it before he began to talk.
"Seeing that they could not get me to join them, they talked to the council of elders. They reached that agreement with the council and although they have been hard on me, I have outrightly declined. And my position is clear to them." Christopher said and with the look on Daniel's face, he was buying into everything.
"And if we find out you are working for them?" Daniel asked and I looked at Chris, supporting what Daniel had just said.
"Kill me." Chris said. This was the most serious thing I have heard Christopher say.
"That's okay. So what do you have in stock for us?" Daniel asked him and I sat down and was just staring at them since I had absolutely nothing to say.
Christopher then dropped his glass and began to tell us how much he had been preparing for the battle. He showed us all the plans he had made and I was surprised that such brilliant ideas were coming from him. I was impressed and I applauded him.
We then made plans on how we would move.
"We would have to attack them, we can't let them invade us, that will be too dangerous." I paraphrased Ivy's father's advice and they both nodded.
"The target should be Mr James. He seems to be the strongest member of the rebels, that tells why he was appointed as their leader." Christopher said and I saw only hatred for Mr James. He seems to have some history with him because the bitterness was just too much.
Having agreed on the date and time we will work with, we had to make a contract in writing that he agreed to join me in exchange for our divorce and I must honour it. We both signed the document prepared by Daniel.
"Thank you, it was great having you." Daniel said as he shook hands with him.
I also stretched my hand out for a handshake, but he turned it down.
Instead of shaking my hands, he walked closer and hugged me. At first, I could not hold him because it's been a while since I was in his arms. When I finally did, the feeling I got sent chills down my spine. I jerked out of his arms immediately before I let my emotions get a hold of me.
"I'm sorry, I was forward." He apologised as I got out of his arms.
"That's not a problem. You have to leave now." I said and he looked at his watch.
I am sure he would argue that it was late but I was astonished when he thanked me for having him and made his way out of my living room.
I walked after him and stood at the window and watched him walk out of the gate.
I turned back as I saw him drive out through the gate and there was Daniel sitting on the couch.
"You still love him, right?" Daniel asked me and I was dumbfounded for more than a minute as I tried to place everything. I never stopped loving Christopher but I am sure that we can never be together again. Even if he was ready to come back to me.
"I never stopped loving him, but I have succeeded in taking my mind off him. At least he is never going to be a priority." I smiled as I was proud of my new life.
"I have a surprise for you." Daniel said and I was already getting ready to smile.
"I'm waiting," I said to him and he stared into my eyes.
"It's gonna come after the war." He said as he tucked my hair behind my ears and kissed my cheek.
I only smiled as I greatly anticipated what he had for me.
**********
CHRISTOPHER'S POV
I was so happy as I walked out of her house. My drive home was also very smooth as I was so confident that I have finally found my way around this particular issue. It has been the most challenging time I have had since I became alpha because every single day I have spent as alpha of the blood moon pack came with one challenge of the other.
As I drove in, Louise was sitting beside the gate. She stood up as soon as she saw me drive in and walked to the car.
As I came down, she started bugging me with stories of how she has been waiting for me and having something to tell me.
Somehow, because of my meeting with Miriam, I lost respect for Louise. But I just had to play along since it is obvious that I was stuck with her.
"How did it go?" Micheal stood up to me as soon as I entered the living room.
"It was perfect." I responded and headed up the stairs.
"Wouldn't you want to talk about it? Give me some details." Michael followed me and I was just thinking of a way to discharge him. I really wanted to be alone, at least for the night.
"We will talk about it tomorrow." I said and he stopped that minute and turned back to the living room.
I walked hurriedly into my room and locked the door so that no one bothers me.
Then, I sat on the bed and looked at the direction where Miriam's picture had always been but it was gone. I longed to see it, but I couldn't so I kept the image of her I had just seen and slept having her in my head.
