Chapter 17
Hearing from Daniel.
MIRIAM'S POV
I decided I wasn't going to leave the room again. I have successfully denied Cherry and Daniel the opportunity to spend some good time together and that was not a good thing for a couple that were getting to know each other.
After a while I fell asleep and was too weak to even get up to use the restroom until morning.
When I woke up, I found a note lying on my pillow. I was so anxious to know the content of the note so I hurriedly reached for it and opened it.
"Hey Miriam, I hope you had a great night. I will stop by in the evening to see how you are doing, I have some things to do at my parents'. Cherry. "
I smiled and felt so sad at the same time. This was a new friend that seemed to understand me so much and she was gone.
"Could it be that I made her leave by dragging her to myself alone?" I asked myself but I could not get an answer.
I felt weak immediately so I laid back in bed. Just as I closed my eyes, I heard a knock in the door.
"Please come in, the door is open." I responded weakly with my eyes still closed.
I heard the door flung open but I didn't hear any footsteps so I became curious and scared at the same time so I sat up.
As I looked up, I saw Daniel standing at the door with his hands folded. He leaned in the door frame and had a beautiful smile on. The smile he wore this morning was so unique.
His lips widened from one corner of his face to another and his eyes were almost closed because of the smile.
"You seem to be overly excited this morning." I said to him as soon as I was sure he was the one standing there but he said nothing.
"Tell me what Cherry did to bring out this interesting part of my beta." I teased him and the smile turned into an outburst of laughter.
We both laughed for a while then finally he walked out of the door and closed it behind him.
"Good morning Miriam." He greeted me as he walked in and stood by the bedframe.
" Good morning, Daniel." I responded as I tried to sit comfortably on the bed.
"Trust your night was great?" He asked and I nodded..
" That's good." He continued and I took over the smile from him as his face turned serious all of a sudden.
"Tell me about your night." I said as I turned to my right and saw that my breakfast was already served.
"I am sure Cherry pulled this up." I said smiling as I pulled the tray on top of the bed.
"Yes she did. She also made some for me too." He responded and I picked up my cup of coffee and took a sip.
It tasted better than usual today and I really loved it.
"Talking about my night. It was great. Having Cherry for the whole night made all the difference.
"Hmmm, good to know you really had a good time. I had a great night too. But this thing growing in here made me really pathetic all night.
"And you failed to call on Cherry and I. You know we would not mind." He said as he picked up the spoon to help me spread some mayonnaise on my bread.
"Thank you." I said as I took the bread from his hand.
"You enjoy yourself. Meet me downstairs when you are done I will be waiting for you." Daniel said then he gave me a kiss on the forehead and headed out of the room.
I rushed the meal.
I rested for a while and took my bath. Thereafter, I headed downstairs to be with Daniel.
By the time I got to the sitting room and asked after him, I was told he was in a meeting with the elders.
"Why wouldn't they just stay at a place for goodness sake. Must they meet with him everyday?" I asked but the servant that attended to me gave me a weird look and I was concerned.
I thought of calling him to ask him what the fuck he meant by that look but I thought otherwise. I could get angry and do something rash if he didn't give me the response I needed so I had to let it slide.
I sat at a corner in the dinning waiting for Daniel to finish up with them. I took a position that no one would easily notice I was there. I didn't want to see any of those elders so I had to keep my distance.
One of the servants brought me a plate of fruits while I was seated there and I used it to keep myself busy.
After a while, Daniel walked up to me and asked me how I was doing. I wasn't even concerned about the question he asked. I was more bothered about the elders.
"I was told you were having a meeting with the elders. Are they gone?" I answered his question with another question immediately.
"Take it easy with yourself Miriam. Yes they are gone. It was nothing serious too and not all the elders were here. Just two of them came to tell me about the security measures they have put in place." He explained.
" Are we having security challenges?" I asked.
"Not exactly, they just want to be proactive." He said as he picked up a fruit with the fork I was using and fed me.
"Thank you. " I mumbled as I chewed softly.
" You know you have been away for a long time now." Daniel began and I paid undivided attention to him.
"Yes I know." I responded, dropping the food and using my hand to support my chin.
"Take it easy. It is nothing serious, at least not much that you can handle." Daniel said to calm me down as he noticed I was already becoming more apprehensive.
I took two deep breaths, in and out and I was able to relax for a moment.
"I'm fine now. Could you please proceed?" I told him as I picked up another piece of fruit and slid it into my mouth.
"So the elders are assuming that you might have forgotten most of the tenets of the pack." He said and before he could say anything else, I cut him short.
"Why would they think I will forget something as important as the tenets of this great pack?" I interrupted him and he did his best to calm me down.
"Well the truth is that they have lost confidence in you. So you need to prove to them that you are still worthy of being called alpha of the silver moon pack." He stated clearly and I became unstable at the moment.
"Are you okay?" He asked immediately and I couldn't give him a response. It felt as if I had a lump in my throat and I could not even swallow it.
"Please, I need water." I spoke finally and he rushed to get me the water himself.
While he was away, I tried to process all that he had just said but nothing seemed to make sense to me at the time.
"Here you go, easy, easy." He said as he helped lift the glass into my mouth when he saw my hand was already shaking.
By the time I finished the water, I felt some kind of relief but I bent my head over the table. He sat quietly and allowed me to have some time for myself. He did nothing to distract me yet he didn't leave my side.
"You see why I need to get this thing out of my belly?" I asked him as I hit my stomach with my fist. That actually hurt me so I let out a little scream.
"Hey, you can do whatever it is you want to do whether or not you have the baby in there. So you are having this baby." He plainly stated and I tried to give him reasons why having the baby was just not a good idea but he wouldn't listen.
"We are never going to have this conversation again. Is that understood?" He asked me and I had on other choice but to nod in conformity.
"So how do I get back their favour and confidence?" I asked him in a very low tune that sounded as if I was just being revived from a coma.
"I think you need to rest now Miriam. We will continue this conversation when you are much better." He said as he held both of my hands in his large palm.
"No Daniel, let's get done with it already. I am losing my patience already. Things have gone bad and I need to fix it." I told him in split seconds.
"I disagree Miriam. Things are not as bad as you think. You just need to give yourself some time and everything will be just okay." He said in the most comforting voice ever.
Only Christopher has spoken to me that way before. And that was a long time ago when he was trying to woo me.
"I might lose my position as alpha." I said almost in tears because I already had them locked up in my eyes.
"No matter what happens Miriam, I can never sit and watch you lose your place as Alpha of the silver moon pack. I promise." Daniel told me as he left my hand and held my face in his two hands.
This was the kind of assurance I indeed needed although it didn't feel enough. The moment became so emotional for me and before I knew what was going on, I allowed the tears to flow freely.
He wiped them with his thumb and kissed me deeply on my lips. This came with a different feeling all together and I just felt like sleeping in his arms already.
"Let me take you upstairs." He said to me as he stood to his feet and raised me up. I thought he was going to walk behind me but he lifted me up and I rested in his arms like a baby. Then he took me to my room and sang me lullabies until I fell asleep.
He was having a chat with a few of his friends when I woke up later that evening. Two of his friends to be precise. I couldn't exactly remember their names but I recognised them well enough.
I went back inside and decided not to disturb their conversation. In less than a minute after I walked inside, Daniel came inside running and he headed straight to the staircase. I wondered what was going on but I decided to let him be.
Maybe he is going to get something. I said to myself as I sat on the couch.
Moments later, he ran back this time panting and in so much panic. I couldn't help but stand to ask him what was going on.
He stopped as soon as he saw me and tried to calm down.
"What is the matter with you Daniel? What happened?" I asked him, waiting for him to tell me what was wrong but he couldn't talk and he was really breathing hard.
When he finally settled down, I had him take a seat and asked him what the matter was again.
"I came in to check up on you. I have been constantly checking on you since I laid you to sleep so that was where I rushed to. Then, then ," he stuttered.
"Take a deep breath and relax okay?" I told him and he did as instructed.
"I didn't see you in bed when I went in this time so I was scared." He said.
"That was because I was right here when you ran off." I told him and laughed at him.
"But I didn't see you when I came in." He protested.
"That was because you were in so much hurry." I said still laughing and he held me tightly.
