Chapter 46

MIRIAM'S POV
From my sleep I heard a loud noise so I jumped up immediately from bed and rushed to the door.
As I got to my room door, the noise became louder and it sounded as though it was coming from chariots of war.
Thus I ran back to bed and hurriedly covered myself with the duvet. As a result of the shock and haste I stood up with, I started having pains in my stomach.
Right now, my pregnancy is a bit over seven months, and as much as I have been trying to do all the doctor prescribed just so the baby will be okay, I still had some feelings that something might just go wrong and this was it.
The pain became intense and I just couldn't bear it anymore so I stood up from the bed and headed downstairs so I could get help. But as soon as I got down, I saw a crowd and the council of elders too were gathered in the compound.
I went back upstairs and went to my balcony just so I can get a clear view of what is going on. From what I saw, people were not just inside the compound, some people were outside the gate. And they were banging on the gate too, requesting that the gate be opened for them.
I couldn't understand what was going on. I was totally lost and confused. I looked among the crowd but I couldn't find my beta. Thus, I had to go down again to see if I could get him to ask what was going on.
Luckily, on my way down I met Trish. As soon as I saw her coming towards the staircase, I stood at the spot I had gotten to and allowed her to catch up with me.
She was running slowly on the stairs and she expressed some shock as she saw me. It was as though I had startled her.
"Good morning alpha," she greeted me while she was still panting.
"Calm down Trish and tell me what is going on." I instructed without even responding to her greeting.
"I was coming to check up on you." She said instead of responding to my question.
"That's not my business, I asked what was going on?" I had to repeat myself and allow her to catch her breath because she was panicking.
"The whole pack is outside, the council of elders too. They want you out as alpha. They,,,, they,," she was still going to say something but I had to stop her because I didn't really understand what exactly they were saying.
"What do you mean by they no longer want me as alpha? I thought I had settled this with the council of elders already?" I asked her with so much anger. With that, I pushed her away and ran downstairs immediately.
On my way, I remembered that I needed to see Daniel so I turned back to ask Trish who was already running after me.
"Where is Daniel?" I asked her immediately as I turned to look at her.
"Daniel is talking with the council of elders. He is trying to calm them down and hopefully get other members of the pack out of the building." She responded as she got closer to me.
After hearing from her, I proceeded to where I was going and in no time, I was downstairs.
I stood at the veranda looking at everyone and observing everything that was going on.
Surprisingly, no one noticed my presence, only Trish who had come out with me knew I was there. I stood there calculating what to say to them and as I used my eyes to examine and weigh every one of them. I knew none of them were my match and as such, there was absolutely no need to be scared of them.
"Miriam, what are you doing here, please go in and rest, I will do my best to handle this situation." Daniel said as he walked up to me.
"Trish, please take her inside and make sure she relaxes. She is not fine, you know?" Daniel instructed Trish and it was at that moment that I remembered that I was having some pain as I woke up.
But right now, my whole body was charged and I was ready to face them all. I determined in my heart immediately that I will put an end to all the inseasant disturbance I have been getting from the council of elders over my position.
I am sure they are responsible for this uproar. They have succeeded in igniting the whole pack against me. They have also created a rivalry between myself and my beta.
Daniel and I should be fighting ourselves tooth and nail by now if we had not called ourselves.
As I became more angry, I started breathing fast and my eyes were already losing their normal colour. I was ready to crush anyone that would stand on my way at the moment.
"Miriam, please go inside and I will handle it. I promise." Daniel repeated what he had said earlier and I pretended not to have heard him.
I moved out of the veranda and walked towards the noisy crowd. Trisha started jittering as soon as I moved out. Daniel rushed after me and held my hand.
"Don't you dare stop me." I warned him and he let go of my hand at once."
As soon as I got close to the crowd, I roared and the whole place was as calm and serene as a graveyard. You could literally hear the sound of everyone's heart beat.
While I was still standing there waiting thinking of the next step to take, one of my servants brought in and mounted what could be best described as a stage for me and I climbed it immediately.
As I stood there, I had a clear view of everything and every single soul standing before me.
"Can you get a representative to air your grievances?" I thundered as I tried to catch my breath because my temper had risen to the point where I could no longer breath properly.
Instead of someone from the crowd, one of the council of elders stepped forward and cleared his throat in an attempt to speak.
"I do not think you are representative of them." I said to the old man standing before me hoping that the crowd would counter what I had just said but there was absolute quiet and tranquillity.
"In that case, I command you to leave my presence." I yelled at him and he buried his head in shame as he walked out of my presence.
I stood there quietly for another ten minutes waiting for a response from the crowd but no one said a word.
"I can see that you all have nothing against me and whatever you have done this morning was as a result of some negative influence on you. Thus I forgive you." I said and kept quiet for a while.
"Thank you alpha." They chorused and maintained the quiet immediately after.
"If that be the case, I see no reason you should be standing here, so take your leave at once." I ordered and in less than a minute, the whole compound was empty, save the council of elders who stood there like they had a share in my inheritance.
"That was a brave and brilliant display from you Miriam. I must say, I commend your enterprise." One member of the council of elders stated and I gave him a stern look.
I started walking down the stage immediately to face him. My heart was heavy as it burned with anger and all I could think of was to crush every one of them one after the other. And I don't mind doing it if that is all it will take for me to have my peace.
As I was walking down the stage, I had my eyes fixed on him and all the words I wanted to say to him were flying all around my head. So I missed my step and almost fell. All thanks to my beta who is always at my side. He prevented me from falling.
The council of elders started laughing mockingly at me and that triggered the anger the more.
As soon as I was balanced again, I rushed towards them with the intention of tearing them apart as my claws were all out already and my eyes were filled with fire.
Daniel knows me so well and what I was capable of so he came after me immediately and held me from behind. With the help of Trish and other servants, Daniel successfully carried me inside.
"Allow me to face these God forsaken men one and for all please." I pleaded with Daniel as he sat me down in one of the couches.
"I don't think this is a good time Miriam. Please calm down, I would schedule a meeting so we can talk about this." Daniel suggested but I wasn't satisfied with his position. I wanted everything done today and I really do not care about who gets hurt at the end of the day. They called for it and they must get it.
"Go tell the council of elders to meet me at the conference room." I ordered one of the servants who was standing there and he ran off immediately.
"No Miriam, you might end up regretting this after all." Daniel still tried to dissuade me from meeting with the council of elders and giving them a piece of my mind but my mind was made up and as long as I still have breath in me, I must clear all of their doubts today.
"Daniel, stay out of this. I am not going to be responsible for anything that happens to you in the process if you try to stop me." I gave Daniel a serious warning because I don't mind getting any one who would want to be a hindrance out of my way.
"This is the Miriam we all have been waiting to see. Please don't try to stop her." Cherry stated supporting my position. I didn't even notice when she came in, I was just too angry to notice what was going on around me.
Her statement fueled my anger as it became even more intense. I looked towards the door to the conference room and I saw the last member of the council walk into the room.
I started walking hastily towards them but again, Daniel held me back and I almost bit his hand.
"This is one good idea, you should let her do what she wants to do please." Cherry walked to meet Daniel and I while I tried wriggling my hand out of his grip.
"I am not stopping her. Although I tried to, now I see how determined she is at the moment and all I can do is support her." Daniel started and I tried as much as I could to be patient with him because I had already lost my patience.
"So why are you holding her hand? Let her go, please." Cherry screamed at Daniel but he tightened his grip on my hand.
"I just want her to promise me she will not go to the extreme." He stated and I looked at him angrily.
"What the fuck are you saying? What extreme?" I asked him in one breath as he pulled me closer and held me by my waist.
"Don't don't this Daniel, let me go." I said softly to him and that is the only statement I have made with a low tune this morning.
"That is not a problem Miriam, I will let you go. I just want to be sure that you will not hurt them." He said as he hugged me and planted a kiss on my cheek.
"I can't make such a promise Daniel. Whoever desires to be treated like an animal will not be disappointed." I said as I forcefully pushed him away and headed to the conference room.
"Why don't you go with her?" I heard Cherry tell Daniel and he ran after me immediately.
"Can I come in with you?" He asked with a low voice and I turned to look at him.
"Provided you wouldn't give me problems." I said plainly and proceeded.
"I promise," he answered as he walked behind me.
As we got into the conference room, all the elders were properly seated on their respective seats and Daniel pulled out my seat for me and helped me sit down, while he stepped back and stood at the door.
"I can see that you all are prepared for trouble." I said to them as soon as I took my seat.
"What trouble can you give us more than the one your absence has caused? Now that we are already accustomed to the fact that you are no longer here, you try to force yourself on us?" Another member of the elders stated and I felt like pulling off his jaw.
"I know I have been absent but I am no longer going to keep letting you all treat me like trash. I am back and I have done all that you all have asked of me to prove myself worthy to be alpha again. Thus this is going to be the very last time you all would rub mud in my face." I said with every fibre in me and the anger was something I just couldn't control.
Before I knew what was going on, I was up on my feet and in their face.
"Kindly sit down and speak respectfully." The eldest member of the council stated and I walked back to my seat with the help of Daniel who began to follow me as soon as he noticed that my anger was getting messy.
I sat down and took a deep breath as I tried to take in everything.
"I want you all to know that I am not going to sit back and watch you all strip me of my right. I am going to fight and it will be bloody." I stated as I was already on my feet again, while Daniel stood behind me patting my back telling me to be calm.
"We believe that your absence has made you soft. As you know, this is the most feared pack and we need someone tough too." Another member said.
"And as you all can see, I have all it takes to continue from where I dropped. I know who I am and must do all I can to protect my name." I said at the top of my voice and they all stood up and bowed before me.
My heart was gladdened and filled with so much joy. It felt as if I just arrived as I stood and took their reverence.
Daniel stood behind me clapping as each of the elders walked out of the room one after another. Daniel and I were the only ones left in the conference room. He came closer and gave me a hug.
Thereafter, he stepped aside so I could walk in front of him. As soon as I took the first step, I collapsed.
