Chapter 20
Lurking danger 2.
CHRISTOPHER'S POV
I won't say I was surprised at the way she banged the door in my face because she didn't let me into her room.
I stood there for a while thinking she would come back but she didn't open up. I raised my hand to knock but it felt something stopped my already folded fist from hitting the door.
I went back down stairs and sat with James for a very long time. It was getting dark and one thing I didn't want was for him to pass the night here. I would rather take the risk of taking him to his house at night when all that protest must have died down and the road free.
As I sat there thinking of what to do with him, Michael walked in.
"What is bothering you?" He asked me, snapping me out of my thoughts. I sighed and breathed in, then he sat beside me patting my back slowly.
I was glad this particular news hasn't gone viral because the council of elders should be here questioning me by now.
"Nothing serious, it is just this man." I replied nonchalantly and he adjusted in his seat properly.
'Did Louise say when he would wake up?" Micheal asked me.
"She said we should keep our fingers crossed. She is not so sure about his recovery." I told him and he folded his hands.
I used my hand to support my chin as I was so tired and confused to the point that I was beginning to have a headache.
My head was pounding and I was feeling sick already.
"Hope you are alright? Look, it's going to be fine. Just keep faith, okay?" Michael assured me and I tried all I could to relax.
"So how did all this happen?" Michael asked me and I felt the urge to lie to him. But suddenly, I felt it wasn't necessary. After all, I am the one who was at advantage so I had to tell the truth.
"I wasn't pleased with his presence so I told him to leave but he refused. He insisted I must agree to the offer he was making." I said and rested my back on the couch where I was seated.
"Agree to what offer? What do you guys have?" He asked as soon as I dropped my statement. I wanted to tell him all about it but Emily stepped in.
"We will talk about it later." I told him and he got the signal as he nodded.
"Aren't you guys going to take him to go see a doctor? He is not breathing." Emily stepped in. I stopped the topic and gave Michael a look. He saw it and stopped talking.
"Relax Emily, he will be fine. We are doing all we can to stabilise him." Michael helped me respond to her and had to worry less about what to tell her.
"Please go tell Louise that her presence is needed at once." I told Emily and she left immediately.
"I will be right back." Michael said and went out. I stood up and left too.
As I moved towards the stairs, the thought of someone else walking in and seeing this lifeless body here struck my mind so I thought of how to get him out of here.
Almost immediately, Emily came back.
"You look panicked, are you sure you are okay?" She asked as she walked down the stairs.
" Yes I am, I was just thinking of how to get him out of here." I told her.
" By the way, where is Louise?" I asked as soon as I remembered I had sent her to go call Louise.
"She is taking a nap so I could not wake her up. Gosh brother, she is so lovely and peaceful. I am sure you will enjoy your stay with her all along." She told me.
" Seriously, is now the time to discuss this??" I asked her surprised and she walked past me.
" Sorry. Let me go get someone to come carry this man out of here. The sight is awful." She said as she walked out making gestures that suggest she is irritated.
I was also disgusted by the sight so I left the sitting room too. I stopped by Louise's room to behold the beauty that Emily just told me about and it was no exaggeration at all. She was damn beautiful.
I stood there for a long time and as I turned to leave, I saw Michael standing at a distance behind me.
"I see you are in love with her already. Congrats Man." Michael said and walked away. Sincerely, he is the last person I want to know about my attraction to Louise lately.
This is because he will surely object to it. He really liked Miriam so much but he must come to terms with the fact that Miriam is nothing but my past right now and that is what she would remain.
If she really wanted what we had, she would not have left the way she did. I quietly closed the door and headed back to the sitting room. By the time I get there, Mr James' body has disappeared.
"Wait a minute, where is he? I asked Michael and Emily were seated there watching a program on the television and laughing.
"We carried him to the back. You could go see him there if you want." Emily said and I sat down.
" You haven't finished your story." Michael said and I didn't seem to remember what story he was talking about.
"What story?" I was really surprised.
"You were telling me what transpired between yourself and Mr James but you haven't finished it." He said as he crossed his leg and pulled Emily close such that she was lying on his chest.
'Ohhh." I said then I went further to tell him everything that happened between Mr James and I.
"Why are you holding my sister that close? Do you guys have a thing?" I asked and they both bursted out with laughter.
"This is not funny and you know it so I will appreciate it if you stop making a joke out of it." I told them but the laughter only increased.
"So sorry brother, but I am an adult and I could be with whomever I please, right?" Emily said and that really annoyed me. She could be with whomever she wants but definitely not my beta, I would not allow that.
'Well, that's not a problem. I just thought Michael is more like a brother to the both of us." I said hoping it could make her change her mind towards Micheal.
'Well understood." Emily replied.
I looked at them as I tried to think of what to do and what could possibly happen next.
'Don't you think this might provoke a war?" Michael asked as he stood up and walked out.
'And if that happens, I doubt we would be able to come out of it sane." Emily emphasized and that evoked strong emotions within me.
'I actually thought of that, but I am sure he wouldn't think of fighting us." I answered.
'The pack is in shambles, everything has left it's place." Emily said and I tried to avert her mind from the troubles we are facing. Just then Michael walked in.
"Where is Louise? She has stayed so long already." Emily said as she picked up the plates and sent them to the kitchen.
I had to go check up on Louise to make sure she was okay. I got to the room where we had kept Mr James but she wasn't there.
I took a close observation and assessment and I found that Mr James was breathing fine already. At that discovery, I felt a burden leave me at once and I became so light.
I moved out immediately calling Louise's name but she didn't answer. When I got to the garden, I saw her sitting peacefully on the grass.
I sat by her and joined her to stare into space while admiring the beauty of nature.
"Thank you." I said to her.
"Thank you too for realising how much of a blessing I am to you." She said and we smiled at each other.
