Chapter 62
MIRIAM'S POV
I stood up from the bed leaving Cherry there and went to look for Daniel so I could tell him about the dream I just had because I was sure it had something to do with the issue that the council of elders had complained of the other time. The rebels were at it and I am sure they would not rest until they got what they wanted.
"Where are you off to?" Cherry asked me with a fainted voice and I was surprised that she was still awake. I thought she had slept off after talking to me some moments ago.
"I need to have a conversation with Daniel." I responded as I reached for the door handle so I could open it.
"It's quite late, Daniel should be sleeping by now. Cherry tried to convince me to get back to bed but there was no way I could go back to sleep with these thoughts in my head.
"It's urgent and it is about the pack. Don't worry he will be glad to listen to what I have to say." I assured her and opened the door. She laid back in bed while I walked out of the room.
On getting to Daniel's room, unlike what I expected, he was sitting on a stool by the dressing table, using his finger to make some beautiful sounds on the table as he stamped his feet alongside.
He looked up to me as soon as he noticed that the door was open although he did not say a word.
I walked in quietly too and sat on the bed waiting for him to say something at least.
"Hi," I said after being silent for a while and launched into another phase of silence again because he did not say a word to me in return.
I just sat there and watched him as the more I tried to say something, the more confused I became about what exactly to say.
I wanted to ask after Ivy, just so I can kill the tension that has so grown between us but I would rather not. It's better you let Daniel be when he is not ready to speak to you because you might end up not having the best of him.
Bearing this in mind I decided that I would not bother him again, so I stood up from the bed to leave. On my way, I thought that he might just want to talk to me soon and I might not be here so I just had to go back to the bed and laid down waiting for him to start a conversation.
As I laid on the bed, several thoughts crossed my mind and for the first time since I got back I became really scared. It seems I might not be able to save my pack again. It was as though the saviour they really need at this point in time is Daniel and not me.
I also felt that all Daniel was doing for me was forced. He seems to be interested in being the alpha of the silver moon pack but he is pretending to be in support of me.
"What if he is the rebel?" I thought to myself but later on I trashed the thoughts as I tried to focus on getting some relevant information about the rebels and how we would go about them from him.
It wasn't long after I had those silly thoughts that I slept off again and saw the same dream again. When I woke up this time, it was dawn already as the sun was already peeping through the thick curtains and illuminated the whole room.
Daniel was not in the room when I woke up. I squeezed my eyes a bit and yawned for a while before standing up from the bed. I hurried to my room so I could freshen up and prepare for other activities.
Cherry was still on the bed sleeping when I came in and I tried hard enough not to wake her up.
However, she woke up when I hit the stool that was sitting by the bedside and the cup on it fell down and broke.
"What's that?" She got up as soon as she heard the sound of the cup.
"It's nothing. I just,,," I tried to explain what just happened to her but she cut me short as she stood up and rushed towards me.
"Stay away from that Miriam so you don't hurt yourself." She advised me and I wondered if I was a child who needed to be told what broken glass can do to someone.
"I am not a child Cherry, and I will appreciate it if you stop treating me like one." I said to her as I bent down to clear my mess but she came over, pushed me aside and cleaned it up herself.
"Come on Cherry, I am fine. The doctor said it was because of the pregnancy and the fact that I lost the baby. That was what made me behave the way I did the other time." I started and tears started dropping from her eyes.
"I am fully recovered so I can take care of myself. Stop crying." I continued and she came to where I was standing and hugged me.
Hmm, the feeling was heavenly and it was such a relief too. I had been nervous all through the night. Even in my sleep, I could not find a moment of rest.
"Thank you for always being here." I thanked her and she smiled.
"I think we should hangout today." She suggested as she laid back in bed.
"You have a place in mind?" I asked her and she smiled while I started taking off my clothes.
She stood up, grabbed a towel and threw it at me and I wrapped it around me as soon as I got hold of it.
"We should just go to the coffee shop. Maybe they would be able to prepare some coffee for you, just as you would love it. " She said while sitting on the bed and I moved into the bathroom.
After giving it a quick thought, I decided I was going on this hangout with her. Thus I opened the door and peeped into the bedroom.
"It's actually not a bad idea. Why don't you just get ready? We should do that this morning, before anything else." I shrugged as I stepped back in and closed the door.
I stood still for a while looking at myself in the mirror in the bathroom, it was amazing that everything about my body got some kind of special changes after the pregnancy.
I looked up at the light bulb, then at the shower, the bathtub and the wall and I was beginning to reminisce every single moment that I had spent in this bathroom.
I was also picking the little differences that I found exciting about this one that I seemed never to notice about the bathroom I shared with Christopher.
When I was done with all the drama I had started, I finally stepped into the bathtub and started having my bath.
When I finished and came out of the bathroom, Cherry was no longer there. She must have gone to prepare for the little hangout we plan to have this morning.
I hurriedly dressed just so I wouldn't keep her waiting because I am very good at keeping people waiting for me for a long time.
Despite my hurry, Cherry came into the room fully prepared while I was struggling with a pair of sneakers that I was trying to put on.
"Let me help you with that." She offered and dropped her bag on the floor and walked towards me. She had me sit on the stool while she knelt down beside me and helped me to wear the shoes.
As she tied the second lace, I felt some kind of relief. As she finished, I stood up on my feet and looked into the mirror. I felt really beautiful.
"Alright, let's go." I said in a tune that sounded like an order. And she gave me a grin.
"Not with your face like this." She replied, rolling her eyes and moving her fingers in my face at the same time.
"There is nothing wrong with my face." I argued and tried to move out of the room.
"You are not the one seeing it. I am and I am saying that you can't even leave this room in this shape." She retorted.
"But I just saw myself in the mirror and I am perfect." I continued and we argued a little longer.
"Everyone is proud of his garbage so I don't expect less from you. But right now, things are going to be different." She blasted and pushed me to the bed.
I had no choice but to let her do what she wanted to do and by the time she was done with my hair and face, I looked amazing.
"Don't you like it?" She pushed me to the mirror and I was surprised at the beauty I was.
"Thank you, Cherry." I whispered.
"Please say it louder." She teased me as she grabbed her bag.
"Aren't you getting your bag?" She asked me as I followed her with just my phone and card that I slipped into my pocket.
"No, I'm ready." I answered, as I assessed myself to be sure that I was with those two items.
"Are you sure?" Cherry tried to be inquisitive but I ignored her, pushed her out of the door and moved out immediately.
"See you downstairs." I screamed as I walked as fast as I could out of her sight.
I got to the living room and there was Daniel sitting on a couch, watching the news. I looked at the wall clock and it was exactly fifteen minutes past six am.
What happened last night came through my mind but I tried to wave it off and also made sure that I don't speak to him. So I walked past like I had not seen him and when I got to the door his voice came.
"Sorry about last night. I wasn't in a good mood." He said and as I turned back to look at him, his face was still rumpled.
Then it came to me that Cherry had slept in my room last night.
"We will talk about this when I get back." I said to him and he nodded.
"Good morning, alpha." A servant who just passed by greeted me and that reminded me of Trish. I had not seen her this morning.
Cherry came down immediately and walked straight to me, ignoring Daniel just as I had done.
"I'm sorry Cherry, I didn't know what happened to me last night. I was stupid to have let my emotions have a better part of me last night." He apologised to her and she told him it was okay.
"Tell me Daniel, how many people did you hurt yesterday?" I asked a very serious question but Daniel and Cherry bursted out with laughter and there I was staring at them like they were not okay and of course they weren't because I didn't see anything funny with what I just said.
"Meet me outside when you are done laughing." I told Cherry and proceeded to open the door. I walked out and stood at the veranda for a couple of seconds which felt like a very long time so I had to go back inside to check what was going on.
I opened the door and there was Cherry and Daniel in each other's arms, kissing.
I stood by and smiled for a while before talking to them.
"Okay Cherry, we have to go now." I announced my presence because it seemed like they did not notice it.
Cherry stopped kissing Daniel but he would not let go of her.
I had to pull her away and they both started laughing again.
Daniel offered to drop us off but we declined his offer. The coffee shop was not far from the house and it was a distance we could walk.
Cherry and I walked out of the living room and out of the gate.
We held hands as we walked down to the shop and it was quiet for a while.
"Have you seen Trish today?" I asked Cherry who already had her earpiece on. She is obviously listening to music. That is one thing she loved doing.
So I had to pull off the earpiece so I could get her attention then I repeated my question.
"I saw her last night when I came back from the hospital, but not this morning." She answered me as she slid the left side of the earpiece into my ear and we both started moving to the tune of the music. .
In no time we were at the coffee shop and Cherry opened the door for me to walk through first.
I walked in and took a seat while she kept her bag with me and went to grab out coffee.
She came back with two beautiful mugs and I felt like gulping down the content of the two mugs.
"Thank you." I said as she dropped mine in front of me before taking her seat.
"This is so good." Cherry said after taking a sip. I lifted the mug too and sipped from it and it was indeed heavenly.
"So do you care to talk about what happened between you and Daniel?" I asked her and she stayed quiet for a while before speaking up.
"Daniel is just worried about the pack. The rebels are on our tail and we need to do something quick about the whole issue." She said hurriedly and in a concerned tune. She was looking worried too.
"So when was Daniel going to tell me about everything that is going on?" I asked her and she held my hand and squeezed it lightly.
"He wants to be sure that you are in perfect condition to handle the matter." She whispered and I was becoming very apprehensive about what was wrong with me.
"Tell me the truth Cherry, what is wrong with me?" I asked her with all seriousness but she could not give me any response.
After pressing on her for a while, she told me that the doctor said I had developed a mental condition. I started laughing immediately and she was surprised.
I knew something like that happened but I was fine now so I assured her that I was in perfect condition and she or any one else doesn't need to be worried about me.
"I promise you I am fine and in the best condition to handle anything." I said to her and she gave me a concerned look.
"Are you sure?" She asked, still holding my hand.
"Yes I am sure. I have lost a child and cannot afford to lose my pack. I am ready to do what it takes to protect this last thing I have got. Even if it will cost my blood." I told her and she came over to my seat and hugged me tightly.
We were still in each other's arms when I heard someone call my name. She let go of me and we both turned around to see who it was but we could find no one.
She then moved back to her seat and continued drinking her coffee.
"I think we should leave here already." She suggested as she struggled to finish her coffee.
"I'm still enjoying myself. Let's stay a little longer." I told her and she obliged.
Someone, probably the same person that called me earlier, called my name again and we still didn't see anyone even when we turned around to check who it was.
"Miriam, we are leaving." Cherry hit the table and stood up on her feet. Just as I was about to stand up, someone touched my shoulder and Cherry attacked him immediately.
I had to stop her when I turned around and saw that it was Micheal.
I stepped out of my seat and hugged him tightly and she was obviously surprised that I did.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him as I was utterly surprised to see him here.
"Can we sit and talk for a while?" He asked me and I agreed but he didn't want to talk while Cherry was here. So I begged Cherry to excuse us and she did as I asked.
"Have a seat." I pointed at the seat Cherry just left and Michael sat down there staring at me like he had just seen a ghost.
"What is the matter? Why are you staring at me like that?" I asked him as I was not comfortable with the way he was looking at me.
"Nothing serious. I have just missed you Miriam. Life in that house was a living hell without you. Christopher sent me away." He said and bent his head.
"What happened? What did you do?" I asked in one breath.
"I did something I was not proud of. Louise put me to it and she made sure I got kicked out, just as she did to you." He said, still bending his head.
"She did not send me out. I left." I made it clear to him and he apologised for misunderstanding it. I tried to ask him what exactly he did but he said he wasn't proud of telling it so I had to let him be.
"Christopher and Louise are getting married soon. The council of elders have approved their marriage." He announced and it didn't come to me as a surprise.
"Good for them." I told him and he chuckled.
"The rebels." He said and my eyes widened.
"What about them?" I asked him.
"I am not so sure but see the involvement of Mr James." He told me.
"The police officer?" I expressed so much shock and he nodded affirmatively.
The story is becoming clear now.
"He is trying to rope Christopher in but I doubt if Chris will be cajoled." He stated as he turned back to look at Cherry who was already losing her patience.
"Why do you say so?" I asked, looking in the same direction.
"Chris doesn't have such guts. Come on Miriam, you know this." He replied as he took my mug of coffee and finished the remaining coffee.
"Thank you, Michael." I thanked him and stood up from my seat. Cherry saw that I was up and she followed suit. We both walked out of the coffee shop and she kept turning back to look at Michael until we closed the door behind us.
All through our walk home, Cherry kept asking me who that was and what we discussed. I assured her we would talk about it when we get home.
As we walked, I kept looking back to be sure that he was not following us.
