Chapter 55
CHRISTOPHER'S POV
By the time the meeting finished I went to look for Louise and so I could tell her that I had informed the elders of our plan to get married soon and also to tell her that the elders would start making plans for it.
She wasn't anywhere in the building when I got inside. I only met one of the servants who told me that she had stepped out probably to get something from the grocery store.
Emily walked at that moment and I wondered why she always met me at every point when I was lonely and needed some company.
Although she didn't say anything to me as she sat down on the couch and turned on the television I was good and was no longer feeling lonely although I was bored.
Thus I decided I was going to tell her about my meeting with the council of elders and the fact that they have decided to start the plans concerning my marriage with Louise.
"The council of elders have started making plans already concerning my marriage with Louise and it will commence soon." I told her and immediately her face became bright and I was glad that I was able to change her countenance for good.
"Are you sure about what you are telling me or you are just trying to flatter me and get me out of this damp mood." She retorted and it sounded as though we were having an argument.
"I just finished the meeting with them and they have approved it although they said they were going to go on some investigations to make sure that everything is perfect. The process will commence soon." I responded and she moved from the place she was sitting down and came to sit beside me.
"I hope you will not regret this,'' she said with a concerned tone and I wondered why she would make such a statement. She's the one that has been pressuring me into getting married to Louise.
She's one of the reasons why Miriam left because all through Miriam's stay she never allowed her to have peace.
"I thought you had always wanted me to get married to Louise. Where is this coming from?" I asked her just so I can be sure and not just make assertions.
"I'm just saying this based on the fact that you never wanted her in the first place. It looks like I am forcing you and I hope that is not the truth,'' she responded as she picked something from my hair.
"I am under no pressure to do whatever it is that I am doing right now. If I never wanted to, I wouldn't have started it in the first place." I responded and she took a deep breath while still staring at me.
"Tell me about it, is it going to be as glamorous as your wedding with Miriam?'' she asked me in all seriousness and I wondered why Louise and her will not get their minds off my wedding with Miriam.
"Why can't you just say what you want to say without mentioning Miriam's name?'' I asked her because I was no longer finding it funny.
"I'm sorry if that offended you,'' she apologised and walked out on me.
"Where the hell do you think you're going to? I'm not done with this conversation.' I yelled at her and she turned back to look at me like she does not care and walked towards the door.
As she opened the door Louise walked in carrying bags in both hands before she walked out. I stood up, walked up to her and helped her with the bags and she thanked me for the kind gesture.
I started unpacking the bags and I found out that she had gone shopping for clothes and not for groceries.
"What are you going to do with all of these?'' I asked her because I felt that they were too much and they really looked expensive.
"I needed them so I had to go get them,'' she responded. I just smiled at her and walked towards the staircase as I made my way to my room.
Then I remembered that I needed to tell her about my meeting with the council of elders and their response concerning our forthcoming marriage so I turned back and looked at her and caught her still admiring the clothes and jewellery she just went to buy.
"Meet me in my room when you are done. We had an important conversation,'' I told her and started walking up the stairs.
"That's fine I will join you soon she responded as she continued what she was doing.
I walked to my room and jumped on the bed while I waited for her to come join me.
For a moment I missed her and I did not know why because I have never felt that way about her before. I almost took off from the bed to drag her upstairs but I had to calm myself down knowing that this feeling might not end well at the end of the day.
Moments later I heard a knock on the door and it flung open and one of the servants came in. I asked him what the matter was and he informed me that Michael was here to see me.
I didn't know why Michael was coming back but I decided I was going to go check if it was truly him and asked why he was back.
I met him in the living room as Louise and Emily were both yelling at him but he did not respond to them he just stood at a corner and folded his hands together.
"What the fuck are you doing here Michael?" I asked him as soon as I set my eyes on him and he went down on his knees.
"I'm sorry for everything I came to tender my unreserved apology." He said that with his head bent to the ground.
Looking at him I saw remorse on his face but I no longer trusted him so there was no way I am ever going to let him back into my life.
"Get up Michael."I said to him and immediately Louise and Emily attacked me for asking him to stand up.
I ignored them and concentrated on him, looking him straight in the eyes. He tried to look away but I made sure that the eye contact I had with him was sustained.
"I know you are sorry and I really do commend you. You have guts, man to come back here. However I am no longer interested in having you as my beta. I don't think I can trust you anymore so the best you can do for me right now is to stand up on your feet and leave." I said to him because he was still kneeling even after I had asked him to stand up.
I saw the joy on Emily and Louise's face the moment I told Michael to leave.
Having asked him to leave I went back upstairs to my room and Louise came behind me.
Emily also followed suit as she came after us and stopped by her room.
I didn't wait back to confirm whether or not Michael had left but I am sure he would because the servant that came to inform me of his arrival was still standing there and I trust him to do the needful paraventure he refuses to leave.
I entered the room and held the door open so that Louise could walk in freely.
She went straight to the bed, sat down and crossed her legs waiting for me to come to her.
I felt that something was going to go down tonight so I had to lock the door before proceeding to the bed.
"You said you have good news for me so I'm all ears,'' she said as she gave me a seductive glance and instead of saying anything I bent over, reached for her chin and raised her face and planted a kiss on her cheeks.
She chuckled and I am sure that she was surprised I did that without her asking me to.
This was obviously the first time I have kissed her by myself.
Seeing that she was interested in what I was about to start I kissed her on her lips and she wrapped her hands around my neck and pulled me on the bed.
She began to kiss me hurriedly and I began to wonder why she was in so much haste.
As such I did my best to pull her away and she laid on the bed panting heavily.
"You know we have to take things slowly. This is a delicate issue and we must apply caution." I warned her as I watched her put herself together. I really wanted to have sex with her but I was scared of what people would think of me.
I would be seen as a man who is controlled by his libido owing to the fact that I was not able to control my sexual drive few months after my Luna left.
But come to think of it, I don't think anyone would know a thing about this if no one tells them and I was sure neither I nor Louise is going to do that.
"I think you are taking this more seriously than I expect." Louise said as she sat up on the bed staring at me like I was some high school teenager she was try to educate on sex.
"Don't give me that look. We are not going to have sex until after the wedding." I reminded her as I turned my face away from her.
"So why do you look at me like you would want to eat me up?" She asked me as she pulled closer to me.
The best thing to do at that moment was to walk away but there was no way I was going to leave my room for her. It will give her the opportunity to do despicable things and I just can't risk it.
"So what's up with the meeting with the council of elders? Or should we start from why you called me in here?" Louise asked me. For the first time since she entered the room, she stopped making sexual advances at me.
"That was why I actually called you." I began and she gave me a look that asked me what next? But I didn't say anything further.
"So what exactly is the reason you called?" She finally spoke out after I had delayed my response for a long time.
"It is about my meeting. They have approved our marriage and preparations should commence any time from now." I finally said as I heaved a deep sigh and laid on the bed facing the ceiling.
She was still sitting on the bed beside me but didn't say anything. I guess this is one of the moments Louise runs out of what to say. She never does.
"I knew they would approve it. You were the one holding back the marriage and not the council of elders. They approved of it the very first day I mentioned it to them. You were the one we have been waiting for." She blamed me for the delay and I couldn't agree more.
"So what is the plan now?" I asked her because it seems as though I was finding everything difficult and strange.
"We would have to wait for a report from the council of elders. If after their investigation there is no issue, we would then proceed from there.
"That's okay. I will make them hurry the process because we really don't have time on our side." I said to her as I counted how many times the light rotated and changed its colour.
"No one has ever had time on their side. It behoves you to move to the side of time." She gave what sounded like a quote I have never heard before.
"I think we should put pressure on them to hurry the process just so we are not late.
Meanwhile, I think it is time we start talking about getting you a new beta." She reminded me of the fact that I was acting all alone and I came to the realisation that Micheal had been relieved of his duties as my beta.
"Look, you can't lead like this. You need some good help and support." She added and I just smiled at her. She obviously didn't not have the slightest idea of what was going on.
"I know and I am taking my time to find someone that is trustworthy. It's going to take a long time but I am sure that I will get through it soon." I responded just to get her off my neck.
"Well, if that is the case,I should leave now. You can call me if you need anything." She said and walked out of my room.
Watching her walk out of the room made me feel like calling her back but I tried not to until she walked out.
I laid on my bed thinking of what to do because I was so confused and I was scared of making a terrible mistake again.
There is one thing that is certain, I will get through it all no matter how long it takes.
I ended up encouraging myself to be strong and brace up because life as alpha is going to be tough from now on.
I will have to do everything all by myself because all the roles played by my beta will now be on me.
I was beginning to feel the impact of Micheal and also his grievances too because no matter what he did for me, I have never thought it wise to thank and appreciate him for it.
That does not however justify his actions towards me. The best he should have done, to my mind, is call my attention to it.
I looked around my room and my eyes caught Miriam's picture somewhere on the floor. I was surprised to see it there as it was nowhere to be found the last time I checked.
I stood up from the bed and walked towards it to pick it up.
As I bent down to pick it, my hand could not reach it. I was surprised as I had never seen such a thing all my life.
I was looking at the picture but I couldn't touch it. I rubbed my eyes with my hands and stood up on my feet, stamping it as well just to be sure that I was fully awake.
With fear I tried to run out of the room with the intention of calling someone to come see what I have just seen.
Immediately I opened the door, I met Louise at the door who said she dropped her earring here so she came back to get it.
The thought of telling her what I had just seen crossed my mind but I was scared of being called a coward.
