Chapter 81

MIRIAM'S POV
As I entered my room, my stomach started gurgling. It felt like I was hungry but I was too lazy to go down stairs to get something to eat. I had to pick up my phone to call Daniel to tell him to bring me something to eat. Minutes later, he was in my room with a plate of food in his hand, by then I had already taken off the clothes I was wearing. As I was already dressed in my night wear preparing to sleep.
"Congratulations Daniel," I said to him and he looked surprised. He obviously did not know what I was talking about and he did not fail to ask.
"I don't remember winning a lottery or is there any feat I just attained that I don't know of?" Daniel responded and it was obvious that he was ignorant of what I was talking about.
"Your baby is adorable." I simply stated and before I could say anything else, he cut me short.
"What baby are you talking about?" Daniel expressed so much shock that anyone could bet that he did not know what I was saying. At that moment, I became suspicious. Is he trying to hide something from me?
"Cheery had told me that you both are having a child and I was opportuned to see him today." I responded to him as I picked up the spoon and started eating my food.
"Oh my bad! I am so sorry I forgot. Yes, the baby is adorable. He looks more like his mother." Daniel looked straight into my eyes as he said those words and it reminded me of my child,that very moment, I wished he was alive. I also would have had a child that looks so much like me. Daniel noticed the expression on my face and I am sure his mind also went straight to my baby so he came closer to me, held my face in his palm and whispered into my ears.
"It's okay Miriam everything is going to be fine." He whispered into my ears and just as he said, I believed everything would be fine. I even started dreaming of getting pregnant again and having another baby even though I hated my pregnant self. He stayed back in my room and watched me eat. His presence that night made a whole lot of difference because a whole lot was running through my mind.
He turned on the television in my room. I guess this is the first time someone is turning on this particular television because I have never turned it on before since I came back. He switched the channel from the news channel that displayed on the screen to a movie channel.
"Why did you change the channel?" I gently slapped his hand and he laughed.
"I'm tired of all the boring bad news always on display." Daniel stated and I saw an atom of truth in what he just said. So long as you are on a news channel, you must see something heart ripping and I think at this moment, that was not good enough for me.
The movie on display was a romance movie. Everything acted in the movie gave a clear picture of my love life with Christopher. It reminded me of everything and every moment I shared with him. The only difference between theirs and mine is that mine never had a happy after just like theirs so it was beginning to bore me and before I knew it, I slept on Daniel's shoulders.
When I woke up the next morning as the sun peeped through my windows and settled on my eyes waking me to the realities I had to face, I saw myself in my bed. I knew immediately that Daniel laid me on the bed because I had slept in his arms while watching the movie.
I smiled to myself as I reminisced all that happened in the movie and I juxtaposed it with my love life. For a moment, I wished I was the lady in that movie but then I remembered that I was the alpha of the silver moon pack and at the same time the Luna of the blood moon pack.
That rang a bell in my ear immediately. I had ended things with Christopher for a couple of months now and it is just hitting me that it was not properly done. I need to get a proper divorce from him, I thought to myself as I stood up from my bed and walked to the bathroom.
After freshening up, while preparing to go downstairs so I can begin the day's activity and turn the few stones I needed to turn just to get at the rebels. The thought of still being married to Christopher permeated my mind so I had to assure myself that I must see to getting a proper divorce with Christopher.
So I went to the dressing table to look at my face. While at it, I saw a notepad and a pen on the table, so I sat down on a stool beside the dressing table and started going through the notepad. It was Ivy's diary. It contained most of the things she wanted to do and the ones she had already done.
I saw my name on almost all the pages and I smiled as I read through each story. When I got to the end, I picked up the pen that was there and added something to it. " I'M GETTING A PROPER DIVORCE WITH CHRISTOPHER." I wrote that down and I smiled as I read it over and over again. Thereafter, I stood up from the stool, picked up my phone and headed downstairs.
"Is he here already?" I asked Daniel as soon as I set eyes on him. He was heading outside so he stopped as he heard my voice.
"Good morning Miriam." He gave a wide, warm smile from the distance he stood and I smiled back at him without saying anything further until he walked up to me.
He held my face in my hands and kissed my forehead while I smiled as his lips touched my face.
"Who were you referring to?" He asked me while still holding my face in his hand.
"I was actually talking about the man that keeps coming to see me. You said he would be here this morning." I made it clear to him and he squeezed his face.
"Is that why you ran out of bed?" He asked me and I didn't know what to say to him.
Daniel of all persons should know that at this point in my life, it is advisable that I stay awake rather than sleep.
"He's not here yet. However, if he was here, he would have waited for you to wake up." Daniel said and I sensed the pride in his voice.
"So what are you up to this morning?" I asked him and he took my hands and led me outside.
We had a delegation from the armed forces waiting to see us. Daniel would have handled them alone if I had not come out but since I was here already, we had to meet them together.
They greeted me as I walked outside to meet them. It seems they have met Daniel already as none of them acted like they saw him. I allowed Daniel to soak to them for a while.
They talked about the strategies they would employ against the rebels and how they would bring them down. The only fear they expressed is that the rebels had a great number. Once more, it reminded me of the fact that I needed some help.
Although I didn't know where this help was going to come from, I was assured I was going to get one and together, we would bring down the rebels.
By the time Daniel finished talking with them, my contribution was no longer needed as he had said everything. I only exchanged contact with the leader of the team and thanked them for their undying support and they took their leave.
That meeting left me very happy and I was smiling all through. It got to a point that Daniel couldn't help but ask me what was making me happy.
"Didn't you see that?". I said to Daniel and he turned back and turned to me again.
"See what exactly? There is absolutely nothing there." Daniel stated as he turned to me and I couldn't help but laugh at his ignorance.
Then I walked up to him and held his hands.
"I was referring to the meeting we just finished." I stated.
"Oh! So what do you think about it?" Daniel responded and the truth is, I had a lot of positive remarks about that meeting. It meant that my efforts are going to be complimented and I have chances of defeating the rebels no matter their number.
I would brace up and try my best to compliment the strength of the military.
"I think it's a great start. It means our efforts would definitely be crowned." I responded after he squeezed my hands a bit and snapped me out of my thoughts.
"I think so too." Daniel said and as I stared into his eyes, I saw hope.
"Alright then, let's get to work." I said to him as I turned to leave, I was actually headed to my room to get the documents I kept in my safe. But my movement was restricted as he held my hands tightly and pulled my back.
"Not so fast." He stated as he pulled me to the dining area.
Gush! It was almost afternoon and I forgot I had not eaten today and I was not even hungry. I'm sure it is not the food I ate late last night that sustained me. I was just too excited about the victory I was about to win.
"This food has been here since morning, I just hope it's not cold." Daniel stated as we both chuckled as we sat in the dining and opened the food.
We started eating it almost immediately and I rushed the food like it was of no benefit to me. I felt I was wasting my time sitting here to eat when I had a lot of work to do.
I finished eating before Daniel did but as soon as I dropped the empty glass of juice I finished drinking and walked out of the dining room, he followed me. I turned back and saw him walking quietly behind me and I did not bother to stop him.
When we got into my room, he sat on the stool close to the dressing table while I went into my closet to get the documents from the safe.
"You've not gotten a proper divorce from Christopher!" Daniel exclaimed as soon as I walked back into the room out of my closet and I hit his head with the papers in my hand for going through my stuff.
"Come on, you left it open. I didn't read anything else but this." He said and I snatched the book from him and threw it into the wardrobe. We sat together on the floor going through those documents, making remarks about them and also making plans out of them.
We spent quite a while on it and by the time we were done, we were satisfied that we had some arsenals in place.
"We would go to them, we won't let them come to us. Don't forget that." I said to Daniel and he put it down. That was the most important advice I got from Ivy's father and I will stick to it.
"That's right babe." Daniel responded and we hit our hands together in excitement.
While I went in to bring another document for us to look at, Daniel was already on his feet stretching his body by the time I got back.
"Where are you off to?" I asked Daniel although he never said he was going somewhere. Seeing him standing made me feel he had plans to go somewhere.
"How is your leg?" Daniel asked me and surprisingly, that question reminded me that I had an injury that was badly hurting me yesterday but the pain was all gone today although I still had a bandage on my leg.
I raised my leg up and looked at it. "It's good". I responded and I still insisted on knowing where he was going.
"How long have we been sitting here?" Daniel answered my question with another question and I raised up my head to look at the Wall clock. From all indications, we have been here for about three hours.
"Three hours I guess."I shrugged as I went to get water from the dispenser now situated in my room.
"My butt hurts!" Daniel yawned as he continued stretching his body. Seeing him do that made me smile as I bent to the floor where we were sitting to gather the documents we just finished working on and return them to my safe.
"So what do you think we should do?"
"Let's just go out to have some fun."He suggested and I reminded him that we cannot go anywhere outside this building.
So with that, we had to change our plan. We decided to play a game. By the time we were done, Daniel went in to take a nap as it was almost evening and advised them to do the same but I could not even though I forced myself to.
Everything about me concentrated on the battle I had at hand and the strategies I needed to employ to win it. I can't afford to lose my cap to anyone else, or even Mr James.
So I walked to the closest and opened the safe again, got out the documents and started studying them again. I needed to be acquainted with everything I had at my disposal. That way, I would know how best to move.
While I was still at it, I heard a knock on my door. I thought it was Daniel so I did not bother putting away the documents I was studying.
"Come in." I shouted so that the person on the other end would hear me clearly as I stood up from the bed with the papers in my hand.
The door flung open and as I turned to check who it was, it happened to be one of my servants.
"Good evening alpha." He greeted me and I waved at him and surprisingly, he smiled at him and I also smiled back and I was glad that he felt comfortable around me.
"You have a guest." He announced and immediately, my mind went to the person that had been looking for me all along.
"Okay. Just make sure he is comfortable." I instructed him and he took a bow and was on his way out of my room and I called him back and told him to go to Daniel's room and wake him up as it seems like the long awaited moment is here.
"Tell Daniel to come see me immediately." I said to him as he closed the door behind him and left my room.
Even after he left, I did not bother to keep the document in my hand away. I decided not to be in a haste to see whoever it was.
Daniel needs to first confirm it was the man I have been waiting for before I would even stand up from this bed. However, I dropped the papers close to me on the bed and closed my eyes for a moment.
I thought I would even take a nap and rest my head because it was banging already and I actually did because Daniel took a while before coming to wake me up.
I jerked out of bed as soon as I felt his body on my leg as it was bare. I had to calm down and stop panicking when I was sure that it was Daniel.
"Seems you've been asleep for a while." Daniel said to me but I did not even respond to him as I could not find the proper words.
"You called me." He added after waiting for a while and I did not say anything.
"I was informed I had a guest so I wanted you to go confirm who it was before I would go out to see the person." I told him.
"Alright," Daniel responded as he stood up from the bed and walked outside.
I laid back on the bed as I anticipated his response. Moments later, he walked back into the room and told me it was the same person I had been expecting. I rushed out of the bed with the documents in my hand and went to keep them in the safe where I had gotten it from.
Then, I rushed to my closet to have a change of clothes. I needed to look elegant. At that moment, I wish I had any of my girls around, they would have given me a beautiful makeover.
Daniel had already gone ahead of me to meet our guest. After dressing up, I headed out of the room. My heart was beating as I was anxious of who I was going to meet then it occurred to me that I never asked Daniel of this name all along.
As I looked down from the staircase, I saw Daniel sitting on one of the couches and our guest who looked like Christopher sitting directly opposite him. I let out a little smile as I hoped it's not Christopher.
Daniel was keenly looking at him while our guest did all he could not to sustain the gaze. He also looked like he was shaking and I wondered if Daniel had made him uncomfortable.
So I walked hurriedly to the living room. I did not see his face because he bent his face to the ground but as soon as I got there and stood before both men, I was certain it was Christopher.
"Miriam!". He stood up on his feet as I stood before them and screamed my name like I meant something to him.
