Chapter 88
Peace
MIRIAM'S POV
At the time we got home, everyone else was fast asleep, save the security.
We walked in quietly and planned to catch a little sleep before the sun is out.
Daniel and I climbed the stairs together and parted ways in the hallway.
As I stood behind my door, I heard the cry of a baby. I was surprised because Cherry was supposed to be in Daniel's room.
Eager to know what was going on, I opened the door and walked into the room and there was Cherry sleeping while the baby was crying in its crib.
I rushed to it and carried it into my arms. As I placed it on my chest, the baby fell asleep instantly. I sat on the bed then woke Cherry up.
"Hey Miriam." She squeezed her eyes and got out of the bed.
"The baby was awake." I informed her.
"Let me leave you two." She yawned as she walked out of the room. I was left all alone with the baby. I climbed the bed properly and rested my back on the pillow.
"It's the three of us here again." My wolf said and I remembered the last time she said something like this. I was still pregnant then.
"Yeah." I said to her weakly and closed my eyes but I snapped out of the sleep immediately as something rang a bell.
"What do you mean?" I asked her.
"I finally get to spend time with you and your child alone again.
"I lost my child." I told her.
"You have always had him." She answered and remained quiet. After a while, I slept off.
The sound of music woke me up and as I turned, the baby fell off my chest.
"Gosh, how can I forget I was carrying a baby?" I yelled at myself as I picked up the beautiful little boy off the bed.
There was a knock on the door and Trish walked in afterwards.
"Good morning alpha." She greeted me and I smiled at her. I have missed her.
"What's going on down stairs?" I asked her.
"We are having a party, I came to get the baby so you can get ready." She said and carried the baby from me.
" Have you seen Daniel today?" I asked Trish who was already on her way out of the room.
"He is in the living room." She answered.
"And what's the party all about?" I asked further.
"Only your beta can answer that question." She said quietly.
"Hey girl." Ivy screamed as she walked into my room and I blocked my ears with my hands. She jumped into the bed and held me tightly, swinging me from one corner of the bed to another.
"Tell me what the party is all about." I demanded.
"It's to celebrate you my dear, you have done noble." She said still holding me.
"I don't think all of this will be necessary, we have a festival to plan and we should not be caught wasting the limited resources we have." I said as I stepped into the bathroom.
" When did you start being economical?" He said but I did not respond to her.
"Your dress is ready, and Cherry will be here to make you up." Ivy opened the bathroom door slightly and peeped through it. I splash water on her face and she closed the door.
By the time I was out of the bathroom, Cherry was already waiting for me.
"I am not ready for the make up." I said and she dropped the kit on the table.
"Call me when you are ready." She stood up to leave but I stopped her.
"What do you think about this dress?" I asked as I examined the gown lying on the bed.
"It's beautiful, who made the choice?" She asked as she picked it up.
" Ivy did, I guess." I shrugged and she smiled.
"It's not bad, I just don't like the color." She remarked.
"Green, I love green." I told her.
"Then, it's perfect." She said and encouraged me to try it on.
I could not recognize myself after wearing the dress, I looked like one of the Disney princesses and I laughed at the sight in the mirror.
"What's funny?" Cherry looked surprised that I was laughing and when I would not stop, she joined me.
"I would prefer something simpler. " I told her as I struggled to walk in the dress.
"Let's go to my room then." She suggested and I followed her. We walked into Daniel's room and the fact that Daniel will no longer be occupying this room hit me hard.
She opened the box wardrobe she shared with Daniel and brought out some lovely clothes. I chose a brown jumpsuit and changed into it.
"Wow!" She exclaimed and I was also surprised at my looks.
"I will go with this." I smiled.
"It actually looks better on you." She complimented me and we made our way out of the room.
I went down to see what was going on. I passed Trish on the way and she was not carrying the baby.
"Where is the baby, Trish?" I called out to her and she smiled, she always has a beautiful smile.
"His nurse is attending to him." She said and continued to where she was going.
"You are up already." Daniel said as he saw me.
"You wouldn't let me sleep." I raised my hand. He laughed and got back to what he was doing.
"Are we having some guests at the party?" I asked.
"Just the council of elders." He responded.
"I just hope it won't take much time,"I said.
"The day is already far spent. It's noon already, so keep calm, let's just enjoy it." He shook my hand.
"How much time do you have? " I asked him as he seemed to forget he just left his pack unattended.
"I will still get there today." He answered.
Daniel has always been an easy going person. He takes things easy and as they come and try not to over work himself. I am sure I'm going to miss my beta.
"Why are you staring at him like that, Miriam?" Ivy held me from my back and pushed me into the kitchen.
"I'm just going to miss him." I said and she hugged me.
"I am famished." Ivy yelled and started pulling out the pots in the cupboard.
"Should I get you help?" I offered to go call someone to help her cook something but she declined.
I walked to the dining area, picked a plate and dished some food then walked back to the kitchen. She gave me some of the scrambled eggs she had prepared and I enjoyed it.
"It's time for your makeup." Cherry walked into the kitchen.
"Don't bother Cherry, we aren't expecting any much guest.
"Okay, let me go get the baby." She said and left.
"She had always wanted a baby, I am glad she finally has one." I said and Ivy gave me a blank look.
Halfway into her meal, it was time for the party and we were led into the living room by one of the servants.
The elders were already seated, Daniel was at his best and Cherry looked like a queen.
I was called upon to make an address and I delivered my speech in a few minutes.
Immediately after my speech, it was announced that Cherry's parents were around. I was glad to hear that as I had always wanted to meet them.
Daniel's Mother walked in moments later.
"You never said your mother will be here." I scolded Daniel as we walked to receive his mother.
"This place is beautiful." She exclaimed and I thanked her.
"Congratulations Daniel, I hope I haven't missed the wedding." She added and I gave Daniel a stern look.
"You are just on time." Daniel smiled and led her to her seat.
"What wedding?" I whispered and he asked me to keep it low with gestures.
"Cherry and I are getting married. The process had been on a long time ago but we had to put it on hold because of the crises we had." He explained.
"And you never thought it wise to tell me about it?" I screamed but forced a smile as we were beginning to attract attention.
"I'm sorry," he apologized but it meant nothing.
The wedding was conducted and Daniel and Cherry joined in matrimony. It was a beautiful and happy moment, although it was a very small wedding compared to what I had with Chris.
"Chris is gone, he should be out of your thoughts too." My wolf said and I took correction at once.
The next item after the wedding was the examination of the administrative plan sketched out by the council of elders.
"This will be kept aside for now, I will have to make my own plans first and see how to marry them." I told the elders and they did not argue.
"So who takes over as your beta?" One of the elders asked and I was quiet for a while.
The look on everyone's face was one of shock, they must be thinking of what Daniel had done to me that I would want to replace him.
"Daniel has been appointed, alpha of the blood moon pack." I announced and there was cheer, a toast was made for that and he was celebrated.
"I need a new beta, as Daniel cannot be both my beta and alpha of another pack." I continued after applause died.
"Should we make an appointment or we should leave it to you." One elder asked.
"I will make the appointment." I told him and that aspect was settled.
The celebration kicked off properly after then, there was eating and drinking. Members of the pack started trooping in and before long, the hall was filled to the brim.
The party took a long time especially because of the wedding and by the time it was over, it was already evening. I walked to the garden and stood there for a while thinking of where to start from. I expected my wolf to give me some ideas as she usually speaks to me when I am alone but she didn't say a word.
Daniel came over and placed his hand on my shoulder.
"You should be on your way by now." I said as I felt his presence.
"Yeah, but I have to tell you something." He responded.
"Go ahead." I replied and he took my hand and led me inside the mansion.
Cherry and Ivy were seated in the living room as we entered and I took a seat opposite them.
Daniel sat by my side.
"Cherry, congratulations one again on your wedding, I am super happy for you both." I told her and she smiled.
After the congratulatory messages were all over, I was reminded we came in to discuss something.
"Okay Daniel, go ahead and tell me what it is." I wiped my face with my handkerchief and adjusted on the couch. Daniel stood up and cleared his throat.
"That's your baby, Miriam." He said and Cherry stood up and handed me the baby.
"What do you mean? I lost him." I argued.
"No, you didn't, we had to keep his existence away from you since you seemed not to want him at all." Cherry said and sat beside me.
I looked at the baby in my hand and a tear fell on his face.
I raised him up and kissed his face.
"I am sure you will love him." Ivy said as she took a sip from her glass.
"I love him already." I stated.
That moment, I understood what my wolf meant. I never lost the baby and I was glad I didn't.
Everywhere was quiet for a while and I thought of what to do.
I looked at Cherry who had always wanted to have a baby and thought of giving her the baby to take care of. After moments of silence, I decided that was what I was going to do.
"Why don't you have the baby and take care of him?" I handed the baby back to Cherry who was more than elated to have him.
"Are you sure that is what you want?" Daniel asked me and I said yes.
"I promise I will raise him to know that you are his mother." She said holding my hands.
"Should we tell Emily about him?" Daniel asked.
"I already told her I lost the baby." I answered.
"Can I have a word with you?" Ivy called me aside and insisted I raised the child myself. I had all it takes to raise him.
"Do you think I can shuffle between administering the pack and raising this child?" I looked at Ivy who was already tired of telling me that I was enough to raise him.
We got back to the living room and she expected me to tell Cherry to give me back the child but I did not.
Instead I helped them carry their luggages into the car that had been steaming.
"Are you sure about this?" Ivy asked and she pulled me closer.
"Yes." I responded and she wrapped her arms around me. They drove out and we went inside.
Just before we could take our seat, Cherry rushed in with the baby in her hand.
"I think you would be happy with him." She said as she gave the baby to me.
"Thank you." I sincerely thanked her and she walked away.
I looked at Ivy whose smile had spread all over her face and couldn't help but smile.
She called the nurse and handed the baby over to her.
"I'm glad you are happy," she noted and honestly, I was very happy.
I was able to think straight and properly handle the pack as there was no pressure of any kind.
Without any appointment, Ivy stepped in as my beta and working with her was the most amazing experience I had.
She had so many ideas and would always have a solution to every situation at hand.
Daniel fared very well at the blood moon pack, I really didn't miss him as much as I thought I would because we were always talking over the phone.
The most beautiful part of it was the presence of my son. He was growing so fast and the smiles he brought to my everyday life was something I would kill to get.
I promised myself to raise him to be a better man and nothing like his father. And to be honest, Christopher did not deserve to be the father of this amazing soul.
"What are you doing here all alone?" Ivy snapped me out of my thoughts and I smiled at her.
"Nothing serious, just thinking." I answered.
"I think you need to get a mate." Ivy muttered and I felt like smacking her butt for making such a suggestion.
