Chapter 54
MIRIAM'S POV
I sat on the ground in the garden lost in thought no matter how hard I tried to get my mind off the troubles that clouded my mind. I didn't notice when the sun went down and it was already getting dark.
I raised my head up because I had bent it over my knees. I saw that somebody was standing over me because I saw the reflection of the person's shadow.
So I turned back to check who it was and it was Ivy.
When she saw that I had seen her she sat down beside me on the ground and pulled me into her arms.
I tried as much as I could to relax even though I was beginning to doubt the love she claimed to have for me.
I looked up at her face for a second and wanted to ask her for the last time everything that had happened but she had been acting as though I had been disturbing her.
Well, since we are going to have a meeting in no time I decided to let it slide and rest my head on her shoulder.
After sitting there for a while she stood up and looked at me and I also gave her a blank stare.
"It's time for us to go inside,'' she said as she pulled me up from the ground after standing up.
"I don't want to go inside. I'm much better here.'' I responded to her but she insisted I came with her because it was time for us to have the meeting I had scheduled.
"I don't think I'm interested in having any meeting with you guys anymore, you all should just let me be." I said to her while trying to be as calm as I could because I was already getting upset again and I really did not want to do anything stupid to any one of them.
"It's fine I'll go tell them we are no longer having the meeting." She responded and started moving towards the building.
I got up immediately and ran after her and fortunately I caught up with her before she was able to enter the house.
Having met her at the door, I pushed her aside and walked through the door before her. Then I moved to my favourite couch and sat down staring at all of them one after the other.
She came in, having a surprise look on her face. I'm sure she wanted to ask me why I changed my mind but she did not. Instead she sat quietly beside Trish while Daniel and Cherry were sitting directly opposite me.
I was mad at them all and I felt like hitting their heads together but I felt that would be too much.
Looking at their faces, I knew they had stuff on their minds and I wished I was inside their head.
"I'm not going to ask you all to tell me what happened. The simple question is tell me everything you know." I commanded and there was absolute quiet in the living room for a long time until I smashed the glass I was holding in my hand when the silence was becoming deafening.
They all jerked in fear and I began to ask them again what this whole drama was all about but these guys were taking me for a fool.
"I am trying so hard not to do something drastic here so in the interest of all of us I will beg you all again to start talking." I screamed at the top of my voice as I felt my chest burning.
"There is no way they are going to talk to you if you are calm,I don't always have to remind you what to do Miriam." My wolf said and I felt like buying her idea because I was already losing patience.
So I stood up and walked to the kitchen. I looked around for a knife but I could not find any after searching for quite a while.
In the process of my search, I looked up and saw the cupboard so I opened it and then I found all the utensils properly arranged.
I reached for two knives and walked slowly out of the kitchen with them.
As soon as the four of them saw me coming with the knives, they all stood up on their feets, begging me not to do anything stupid.
"Don't be apprehensive. I am not going to harm any of you, I promise." I said as I bent my head to the ground while holding the knives firmly.
"So what are you doing with two knives?" Daniel asked me as I walked close to them.
The closer I came to them, the farther they walked away from me. They kept moving backwards until they got to the wall and could no longer go back again.
"You should enter inside the walls.'' I advised them but they started pleading with me and demanding that I put the knives away.
"Like I said earlier, I am not going to harm any of you with these knives. These are for me." I said to them as I raised the knives up and kissed them.
"Miriam you don't have to do this, we have gone a long way already and I am sure we can handle this amicably." Daniel said he moved closer to me but the other three ladies were still behind.
"Did you just say we can handle this amicably?" I asked him because I was surprised he was saying that. I have been the one begging them all day to tell me everything they know but they have rather been playing smart.
"Yes Miriam I promise you I will tell you everything." Daniel responded as he tried to hold me so he could get the knife out of my hands but I was smarter than he could ever be as I raised the knife in my right hand against him and it scratched his face.
He started bleeding immediately and as much as I felt bad that I had injured him again I applauded myself because he asked for it. He used his left hand to hold the spot that I had cut to prevent the blood from flowing too much but it still did as the blood ran through his fingers.
Cherry started screaming as soon as she saw that and as she tried to move closer I threatened her with one of the knives and she went back.
"It's fine Cherry, it's nothing serious,'' he said to her and then turned back to face me.
"Can we now sit down and talk?'' He said as he moved towards a seat and sat down.
Then I faced Ivy, Cherry and Trish and commanded them to come over and with their hands over their heads they walked towards me trembling.
"You all take a seat." I said to them and they squeezed themselves on one couch.
I also took my seat and I hit the knives together while I waited for what they were about to say.
"I know this is about your baby." Daniel began and I gave him maximum attention.
"Yes this is about my child so could you please tell me everything you know about him." I said to him as I tried to be calm so I can get everything he has to say because I usually find it difficult getting details when I'm angry.
"Well he died, you collapsed after the meeting with the council of elders and I rushed you to the hospital. According to the doctor you lost the baby even before we got there." He said and tears filled my eyes immediately as my hands began to shake then the knives I was holding fell from my hand and I used both hands to cover my face.
It's bad that my baby was no more and I wish I had seen him before he was burnt.
I raised my face to look at Daniel and I saw that he was also crying. I didn't know whether he was crying because of the injury or he was actually mourning my child with me.
Ivy, Trish and Cherry were also crying and I saw pain written all over their faces even with mine that I could no longer bear.
"I had carried that child for thirty one weeks and I was hoping to at least have it in my arms even if it's for a day." I said amidst these tears that I was trying so hard to control.
"It's all going to be fine. I know it's hard but definitely going to be fine." Ivy said and I laughed at her statement because I am sure she does not understand.
"You don't understand do you?'' I screamed at the top of my voice as I rose up on my feet stepping on the knife that I had dropped such that it cut me immediately.
"I understand you Miriam, I perfectly do,'' Cherry said with tears in her eyes and I couldn't help but believe her because she had lost several babies.
"Now you all tell me what am I going to do now and how am I going to start?'' I asked them as I paced around the living room not minding the injury I had under my legs.
Each step I took made a mark on the tile because I was bleeding.
"I think you have injured yourself,'' Trish said as she rushed towards me but I pushed her away as she came closer screaming to her that I was fine.
My heart was bitter and it felt as if I was not going to survive to the next day. I wondered why I was feeling like this because from the beginning I never wanted this child.
"You have started already, all you have to do is to brace up." Daniel said and I rushed to him and started hitting him with my fist repeatedly.
He let go of his face that he was holding and tried to settle me.
I was quite strong so I wrestled with him but the strength of a man cannot be compared to mine as he overpowered me and bundled me to my room.
Ivy and Cherry ran after us and as soon as we got inside the room, Ivy brought out what looked like an injection from one of the drawers in my room. Although I could not see it clearly because my eyes were blinded by tears.
She handed it over to Cherry who tried all she could to inject me but I resisted her.
When Daniel noticed that she could not successfully inject me with all the strength he had in him he held me. I gave a loud scream and my wolf manifested.
Cherry and Ivy ran out of the room immediately leaving me with Daniel to contend with. I was looking really fierce and horrible. But I did my best not to do anything dangerous to Daniel. I had promised myself never to do such a thing again so I calmed down and sat on the bed.
Although my eyes were still red and my breathing was still fast.
I looked at my hands and I discovered that my claws were still out so I tried as much as I could to make sure they went back in.
When Daniel saw that I was settled, he sat beside me on the bed and pulled me closer.
I was really stupid to have the believed that he had my best interest at heart because as soon as he saw that I was calm and unsuspecting he injected me immediately and I became dizzy instantly.
"Why are you doing this Daniel?'' I asked him before I fell asleep because I could not understand why they were injecting me.
I remember they did this the last time I asked after my baby in the hospital.
"It's all for your own good Miriam and trust me you are going to be fine,'' he responded . I felt he was saying something else because I still saw his lips moving although I could not hear what he was saying.
*********
DANIEL'S POV
When I saw that she was asleep I carried her and laid her properly on the bed and covered her with a duvet.
For a moment I sat on the bed and watched her sleep.
Then I began to miss the peaceful part of Miriam that I had always known and have been accustomed to all these years.
From what the doctor said she was suffering from a mental condition although he has not told us the cause of it but I was really concerned about her well-being and welfare while this would last.
After sitting by her side for a while I went downstairs to meet Cherry and Ivy.
As I opened the door to her room I found the three of them standing at the door. I started laughing immediately because the sight was really funny.
"What the hell are you guys doing here?'' I asked the moment I stopped laughing.
"How did you calm her down?" Ivy asked me and I really did not know what to respond to her.
"I had to do what I had to do, you don't have to bother yourself about it." I responded as I asked them to come with me.
When we got to the living room, the first aid box was already on the table as Ivy reached for it immediately and opened it to dress my wound.
Cherry sat down beside me while Ivy cleaned and dressed the wound I sustained while trying to get the knives from Miriam.
Trish on the other hand walked out of the living room and came back with a mopping stick and bucket and started cleaning the blood stain that painted the floor.
"Don't you think we would have to tell her the truth?" Ivy said while she was dressing my wound but I was not bothered. Miriam would only know the truth when I want her to and not now.
"You don't have to bother about that she can't know the truth now, not until she's fine.'' I responded and she took a deep breath and stared at the cotton wool in her hand as though she didn't know what to do with it.
"I feel keeping her in the dark would only make her more dangerous." Cherry said I laughed because I felt that her reasoning was myopic.
"Like I said you girls don't have to bother about this and no one should tell her the truth not now." I warned as I pointed my index finger at every one of them.
"That is not going to be a problem but we would have to get her to the hospital tomorrow." Trish suggested.
"There's no need to take her to the hospital, she might cause a scene there and it's not going to be good for the public. The doctor is going to come here every day to check her until she is fine." I responded and they all agreed with me.
"Please can someone get me dinner? I'm starving." I said and Trish moved to get it immediately because she was already done with what she was doing.
"Please make some for the rest of us." Ivy told Trish who was already on her way to the kitchen.
Moments later the food was before us and I was surprised it was that fast so I had to ask Trish and she told me that she had microwaved the leftover food from today's celebration.
