Chapter 41
MICHEAL'S POV
The council of elders were beginning to piss me off and I really did not want to join issues with them. I just had to pretend and I was okay with everything they were saying even when I knew fully well that there was no way I was going to allow Christopher to continue as alpha.
He has proven himself to be incompetent and from the look of things he needs a replacement. I have tried all I could to convince these people to remove him and even now that they have decided to, they are still trying to give him more time to work on himself.
With that anger I stood up from the meeting and walked out of the conference room. I knew that Chris noticed that all was not well with me. He must have also figured out that I was pretending to be on his side when it was clear that I wasn't so in order not to get into a fight with him later today after this meeting I decided to leave the house.
I had to go to a friend's place that was about a mile away from where I lived. I told myself I was going to spend just that day and maybe return the next morning when Christopher's anger must have burnt down.
As soon as I got there and sat down I got a call from Emily telling me that Christopher is looking for me. She also made it clear that he was angry and could tear me apart if he sees me. She also advised me not to come home until everything is all over and promised to intimate me with the progress of the whole process.
I hung up the phone then I sat back on the couch where I was.
One stupid thing about Emily is that she trusts people easily. Well I would say I have been very lucky to have gotten her trust such that she trusts me even more than she does her brother. She could even do anything that I asked of her.
I was able to convince her into having a relationship with me and that was actually to make her more comfortable and vulnerable around me. The plan was to get her and then use her to get her brother out of his place as alpha.
I didn't really love her that much, however I told myself that I could give her a little compensation when the job is done.
I did everything I could to make her see her brother in a bad light while I always played my cards so well that she would never believe I could hurt a fly.
When I told her that I wanted to be alpha, I saw some resentment on her face. I meant she couldn't bear the fact that I wanted to take a position that is supposed to be meant for her family alone. I promised her she was going to be my Luna if I eventually became alpha and as such the position would never leave her lineage.
With that assurance she promised me that she was going to do everything within her power to support me. She was power thirsty and obviously wanted to have the feeling of being called a Luna.
Her brothers never allowed her near anything administration in the pack and it has been one grudge she had always beard against her brothers.
So when I told her that she was going to be Luna if I eventually became alpha she took it with a wide arms, and ever since then she had always been playing her cards well.
A few moments later, she gave me another call and in this particular one her voice was shaking. I tried to calm her down first before asking her what was going on.
She told me all that Christopher did and how he was busy destroying things in the house.
What frightened me was when she told me that he fell and hit his head on the floor. She also said she passed out and at the moment Louise had rushed to call a doctor.
That was all she said to me and the phone hung up. I tried calling her again and again but she wouldn't take her calls.
I have been here for three days now and all these three days I have been doing my best to reach Emily so I could hear about the progress of things but she wouldn't respond to me.
While I was there I kept wishing that Christopher would just die because that would make it easier to pass me the position of the alpha since there was no heir in their family.
I decided I was going to return home at least to see what was going on and to see Christopher on his dying bed and maybe help him facilitate the death so that I can be in charge.
I thanked the friend that I have stayed with for those three days and informed him that I will be leaving.
"Are you sure you're going to be okay?'' he asked me in a very concerned tune and I knew he was bothered about my welfare.
"I'm definitely going to be fine, you don't have to worry,'' I assured him as I walked out of his door.
I entered the car and I drove off immediately and in less than ten minutes, I found myself at our gate.
The gate man opened the gate for me as soon as he heard me honk and I drove into the compound.
I stepped out of the car and walked fast towards the building. I tried opening the door but it was locked from inside so I had to knock.
Moments later the door flung open and there was Louise standing right before me.
"So you finally decided to come home?'' she stated as she walked back to her seat.
I ignored her and headed straight to my room. On my way to my room I heard a noise coming from Christopher's room so I had to stand by for a while and eavesdrop. I couldn't hear what he or the person he was speaking with were saying.
I really didn't have the energy for that gossip so I had to move straight to my room to relax.
As I lay down on the bed I brought out my phone again and tried to call Emily at least to tell her that I was home.
The phone rang as soon as I called but she did not take her calls.
I was a bit worried because Emily does not behave like this. She always takes my call no matter what and the fact that she has been ignoring my calls for the past three days disturbed me.
After spending some time in my room I came downstairs and then saw Louise, Emily and Christopher at the dining table having dinner.
I would have loved to join them but I decided against it so I dashed out of the living room hoping they did not see me.
I went to the garden in the compound to at least have a breath of fresh air and relax for a while.
A few seconds after I stepped into the garden one of the servants came to inform me that Christopher needed me in the house.
It was obvious he had seen me and had sent the servant after me immediately because between the time I stood in the garden and the time the servant informed me that he needed to see me more than five seconds did not elapse.
"Thank you very much, tell him I will join him in a moment." I responded and the servant bowed and left my presence.
I tried to think of what must be going on in Christopher's mind at the moment but I couldn't wrap my head around anything so I decided to compose myself as much as I could as I walked into the living room.
They were still at the diner so I had to work down there to meet them.
"Good evening, alpha." I greeted Christopher as soon as I got to the dining room.
"Where have you been all this while Michael? I have been looking for you all over the place." Christopher stated as soon as he set his eyes on me without even responding to the greeting.
"I had a few things to sort out so I had to leave and I didn't know about any other thing that happened so I couldn't come back." I defended myself and he gave a smirk.
I looked at Emily and tried to ask her why she did not call me and tell me that Christopher was up in a gesture. But she acted as though she did not understand what I was saying and concentrated on her food.
"You should join us for dinner, don't you think so?" Christopher stated.
"I don't think I am hungry, I can't eat now." I excused myself and walked out of the dining room.
I sat down in the living room not knowing what to do at that particular moment. I felt that Emily had given me up but I was not so sure about you so I decided to be calm and not blame her yet for anything.
When they were done having their dinner, the three of them matched to the living room like soldiers on a mission.
Louise and Christopher wore a straight face, it was only Emily that smiled while she was walking down and the funny thing was that she walked up to me and kissed me.
That kind of gave me a little more assurance that everything had not gone wrong, so I held her close in turn and kissed her too.
"You two should do that in your bedroom." Christopher stated as he kept his face as though he was disgusted.
Emily giggled and I started laughing. I became more relaxed than I was the first time I stepped foot into the house and I was assured that nothing had gone wrong.
I wanted to ask him what happened and how he settled with the council of elders, but I felt it was too early so I decided to keep quiet and maybe allow him start the conversation if he would.
"Do I need to take the drug again this evening?" He asked, turning to Louise.
"No darling, you will take it tomorrow." Louise responded and Emily was all smiles.
"I can't wait to see you both together." Emily chuckled as she held me closely.
"I also can't wait to see you both together." Christopher stated as he stood up and walked towards the staircase.
"Are you going to bed already?" I asked him and he turned back and told me yes.
"Goodnight everyone," he said and continued his journey upstairs.
"I also need to go to bed." Louise stated.
"It had been a long day already," she added and walked out leaving Emily and I in the living room.
"And what are you going to do now that everyone has gone to bed?" I asked Emily who was already on my lap.
"I'm probably going to stay here until morning looking at your beautiful face." she said with a very wide smile and I felt like a baby.
"It seems you have been avoiding me lately." I said to Emily and the smile on her face turned to a frown immediately.
"I haven't been avoiding you, most of the times you called,I had been with my brother so there was no way I could take your call." She said defending herself and I found it difficult to believe her.
"Come on babe that's the truth. I had been with Christopher all day long. I have not left his side." She added as she tried to tickle me.
"When did he regain consciousness?" I asked her and she waited for a moment before answering.
"He woke up the very next day." She said counting her words and that made it clear that she was obviously lying but I decided not to take it seriously.
"That's okay if you say so." I said and she hugged me. I tried to push her away but she wouldn't let me be so I decided to relax in her arms.
"Is there anything you would want me to know about apart from this?" I asked her and she shook her head.
"Let's go in and sleep," she stated and I made it clear to her that I was not ready to sleep.
"You could go and rest, I understand the fact that you have been busy all along. Don't worry about me." I said to her but she wouldn't leave my side.
Instead of leaving she leaned on me and before I knew it she slept off.
I wanted to carry her to her room and lay her properly on the bed but I decided against it. Everything about her this evening points to only one fact, she wasn't working with me after all.
As she slept beside me the only thoughts that came into my mind was strangling her and then telling everyone that she had died in her sleep.
This is to stop her from exposing all the secrets that I have allowed her to be a part of.
While I was still harbouring those thoughts in my head Christopher walked in and carried his sister to bed. Then he came back again probably to ask me where I had been and also to know why I left the conference meeting the way I did.
When he came back he sat down on one of the couches and kept his eyes fixed on the television. I was surprised he did not say a word to me.
"I thought you said you were going to sleep, why did you come back?" I asked him because I was really curious and I wanted to know what was on his mind.
"Nothing serious I just couldn't sleep anymore so I had to come down here to pass time until I'm ready to sleep." He replied.
"We will be having a meeting with the council of elders next tomorrow." He said as he stood up on his feet to leave the living room.
"Who scheduled the meeting?" I asked in a shock because no one schedules a meeting with the council of elders except me.
"Louise scheduled the meeting since you were unavailable at the moment." He answered and continued his journey up the stairs.
I knew that Louise was no good but what I don't know is how to get her out of the page. I have put in so much effort to write this beautiful story and how she came in to disorganise everything is what I cannot place my hand on right now but the truth is she must leave.
I have come too far already to let her or anyone win me.
"This is my game and I must play it to the end." I said to myself as I walked to my room.
