Chapter 18

The trigger
CHRISTOPHER'S POV
I flipped Louise's picture upside down before going to bed.
In no time I was up and it was as though I had slept for a long time but the night was still young. I felt refreshed and sound greatly anticipating the next day.
There was never a day I loved as much as today. I laid in my bed thinking about all that had happened and I was super grateful for the events of the day. Being on the same page with Michael was all I needed and I was glad I actually got it.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes but I still could no longer fall asleep. I was overly excited and it seems like the oxytocin level in my body increased.
I jumped off the bed and headed to the sitting room. I kept pacing around aimlessly not knowing what to do with myself at the moment.
I decided I should watch the television so I turned it on then moved to the kitchen to get some cookies and a glass of juice. I was surprised to see Michael in the kitchen eating.
On sighting me, he laid down the plate he had in his hand and started laughing heuristically. I joined him in the laughter as I leaned on the fridge.
"What are you doing here Christopher?" He asked me with the food in his mouth and I couldn't help but continue laughing at his expression.
"I should be asking you that but I have already caught you in the act already." I said to him and opened the fridge to get my drink.
He continued eating while I moved on to looking for the plate of cookies I had seen earlier. When I could not find it, I had to ask him about it but it turned out that he had not seen it.
I was left with no other choice than to do with the drink alone except I wanted to eat some more food and I didn't want to.
After picking up the juice and filling my glass with the desired quantity, I left Michael in the kitchen and headed to the sitting room.
"I'm off to the sitting room." I told Michael as I covered the juice left in the mug and placed it in the fridge.
"I will join you when I am done." He said with food in his mouth again.
"You need to imbibe the habit of chewing your food first before talking." I said to him as I walked out and he chuckled.
The television had booted up already by the time I got back so I sat down and started watching but I wasn't quite enjoying the program that was on at the moment so I switched it to a sports channel and started watching a swimming competition.
As I sat there and observed the competition, I found that there was this particular guy who was quite behind everyone else. In fact, the match was over but he still made sure he reached the end and came back.
This taught me never to give up no matter how long it took me to get there. Now this guy still reached the goal even if he could not win the competition. He got to the same spot the other reached and covered the same distance they all covered.
"You never watch sports." Emily said as she walked to sit beside me and also took the glass of fruit juice from me.
"And you barely take juice too. What happened to alcohol today?" She asked again and I was still astonished at the way she walked in on me and here she was reminding me of the things I do and the things I barely do.
"Why are you up?" I asked her.
"I haven't slept. I have been on the phone for a long time with a friend, I just finished and decided to come here to unwind a little." She explained as she dropped the empty glass on the table.
"Tell me, do you still love Miriam and would you want her back?" She asked me and I honestly didn't have an answer for that question.
Just as I was about to speak to her, Michael walked in.
"Emily, what are you doing here?" He asked with a plate still in his hand.
"And what are you doing with a plate at this time?" Emily retorted and I ceased the opportunity to go get another glass of juice but I changed my mind on the way to the kitchen and diverted to the bar to get a glass or two.
"I was hungry so I came down to get something to eat." He answered and sat on the couch I just left.
"Okay, so are you now cool with Christopher?" She asked again and he said yes affirmatively with so much energy.
"Hmm, that's good. I'm glad you guys are back. Please tell him to get his mind off Miriam." She told him and was about to walk away.
"What makes you think he hasn't gotten his mind off her?" Michael asked her defensively and I was so proud of him as I stood at the bar taking my drink.
"Well, I think he hasn't. He has not been able to come to terms with the fact that he needs an heir and as such must marry Louise." She replied.
"And I think you haven't come to terms with the fact that Louise is his brother's wife and decisions like this are not that easy to take." He told her and she let out a deep sigh.
"He doesn't have a choice in this situation does he?" She asked sarcastically and turned to look at me.
I pretended not to hear a word of their conversation as I concentrated on my drink.
"He must have to marry her. That is the only way out." She said again and started walking out.
"Do you even love your brother?" Michael asked her and she stopped by the staircase.
"If I don't love Christopher, I would not be taking these steps to help him." She stated.
"Including setting up his wife and making sure she left?" Michael confronted her and I became interested in the conversation.
"What do you mean by setting Miriam up?" I asked them as I walked towards them.
They both acted surprised and I was damn serious.
"It seems you both know something about this whole issue so start spilling." I screamed at them.
"I don't know what Michael is talking about. I was only telling him to tell you to proceed with your wedding plans with Louise soon. You need an heir Christopher." She said with a loud voice and ran up the stairs immediately.
I was actually angry with Michael already but I decided not to show it because I didn't want to spoil the relationship I just succeeded in mending hours ago.
We sat quietly on the same couch for a while and I kept turning to look at him hoping he would speak to me but he didn't.
"Tell me Michael, what do you know about this issue?" I asked him but he gave me an indifferent look.
"I actually do not have valid facts but I am very certain that Miriam was set up. She can't possibly do that." He said and kept a straight face.
"It's alright." I told him and moved to the next seat.
We stayed up until midnight then I left him in the sitting room and went to my room. I got in and was able to sleep in no time.
I woke up the next morning really late and I hated myself for doing that. I had a few things to do and I was running behind schedule at the moment.
I jumped into the bathroom for shower and rushed down as fast as I could. Michael was already prepared. He was obviously waiting for me.
"Sorry for taking so long." I whispered as I got to the point he stood.
"It's fine," he answered and I led the way to the car. On our way out we met Mr James at the gate . He parked his car a few streets away and walked down to the house.
I was surprised because he would always drive in.
"Where is your car?" I asked him when I lowered the window.
"There is an ongoing protest. Everywhere is blocked. I had to park down the road and walk down here." He answered as he came closer to me.
On hearing that, Michael had to revise the car and parked in the parking lot and I told him we would have to do without the car.
"Walking cannot be an option. There is no way we can walk down there. Let's reschedule." He said and started walking towards the building.
"Help me make the calls and send the emails." I responded and he nodded.
"So why are you here?" I asked Mr James and he smiled mischievously and also walked inside.
"Do you think I am joking?" I asked him again but this man has no shame. He was the same person I disgraced the other day and he was here again.
"It's about what I told you last time- to against pack together. What are your honest thoughts?" Mr James asked me and I couldn't help but boil in anger.
Mr James had told me about his intention to lead the rebel group against the alpha of the silver moon pack and he wants me to join him against the silver moon pack.
"I have told you I am not interested. What part of that do you not understand?" I asked him angrily as my eyes turned red immediately.
He also fiercely came against me and it was then I actually believed he was a strong force in the wolf pack. He was quite deadly. We held each other and our claws injured the spots we laid our hands on.
No one was there to interfere and neither I nor Mr James was ready to give up the fight.
I wanted to call on Michael but he would take me for a coward who cannot stand for himself or defend himself so I stayed put.
It got to a point where as a result of the pain he was inflicting on me, I became more aggressive as my anger aggravated.
I did not just tear him with my claws, I also bit his shoulder as my whole body was beginning to turn to my wolf self.
At that, he pushed me away and I came back to normal. He was screaming in pain and I headed to my room
Blood from my body dropped as I moved.
"What just happened here?" Louise said as she met me on the staircase.
"Why are you bleeding?" She asked again almost immediately.
I lifted my eyes and took a cursory look at her and she was damn beautiful.
She wore a beautiful purple gown that hung closely on her body exposing her curves. Her make up was perfectly done with a bright red lipstick which made me want to kiss her at the moment.
Her hair was perfect and she wore the perfect jewellery. The only thing that upset me about her look was the fact that the accessory on her head belonged to Miriam. It was one of the items I bought for her.
I then became worried as this was the second item I bought for Miriam that I am finding here since she left.
Louise took my hand and screamed as soon as she saw the injury. It was quite big but I wasn't bothered.
"Who did this to you?" She asked with some level of concern which I felt wasn't genuine but it doesn't matter anyway.
"Let's go upstairs so I can dress it." She said and I followed her as she led me to her room.
After dressing the wounds she seductively walked out of the room to dispose of the trash accumulated from the items she used.
By the time she got back, I was already at the door about to leave the room so we met at the door. She gave me a warm hug and as she pulled out, I drew her close and kissed her.
