Chapter 11
Settling scores 2.
CHRISTOPHER'S POV
"What in God's name is wrong with Michael?" I asked myself as I watched him walk out of the room so disrespectfully.
I began to wonder what has gone wrong and why my beta of all persons would treat me with so much disdain and disregard.
As I thought along, all my mind could point to was Louise.
I know how manipulative Louise can be but I was okay with it so long as it has helped me be all I am today. But that doesn't mean she should incite other people against me.
This brought my mind to Emily who is now the closest person to her. What if she also gets into Emily's head just as she has gotten into Michael's head? What will I do to salvage the situation?
I really need to act fast before things get out of bounds. I thought to myself as I walked around the room.
I decided I would wait for him to come back. We must finish this conversation and I will know what to do from here.
I went back to the stool and sat on it again as I observed everything around the room. I found that the arrangement has changed. I could see things that weren't there before and the position of things too were no longer the same.
I looked for the drawer where we had kept some important documents but they were nowhere to be found. I became apprehensive at that discovery. I had removed it from my room because I didn't want Miriam to have access to it.
She never entered Michael's room all through her stay here. I searched the room to the best of my ability but I never found it. I was anxious and I felt that Michael has something he is hiding.
I promised myself that I would find it all out. I am that patient and this patience will give me all that I seek although it will take some time.
I heard the clock tick and so I looked up at it. It was midnight and I was still here waiting for Michael and I must wait for him.
Michael doesn't stay up late at night, he will soon go to sleep. So I waited, giving him a few more minutes and just like I predicted, he came in.
"What are you still doing here?" He asked as soon as he walked into the room.
"Waiting for you." I responded in the most calm tune I have ever heard myself speak with.
"I have told you I don't have anything to do with your wife." Michael repeated himself and I reminded him again that she was no longer my Luna.
"She was the best you had Christopher. She made things easy. You barely did anything while she was here. I had to do every damn thing myself and when I could not move anymore, she would push me." Michael said and tears streamed down his face.
Truth be told, I wasn't really interested in the affairs of the pack. All I ever wanted was to be called Alpha and I got it.
Michael was the one who did almost everything. Himself and Miriam. Now Miriam was gone and he was left alone to cater for the pack.
I only attended meetings with the elders council as it was a duty I could not delegate according to the customs.
"You should be grateful you had her, but instead you plotted with that bitch and pushed her out. You have no idea what I am going through Christopher, but you think only of nothing else but you." He said to my face and the saliva from his mouth landed on my face.
"Now to the second question," I said pretending that none of the words he spoke touched me.
"Why was Louise in your room?" I asked him and he cleared his throat.
"That bitch?" He said after clearing his throat.
"Well, I don't know what the both of you have but she came in here to issue threats to me. I know how to deal with her if she messes up with me." He assured me and laid down on the bed.
Then I became concerned about what Louise must have told him. Looking at him, he seemed to be very angry at the moment and any stupid move could be disastrous but I still had to ask my last question.
"What changed Michael? We were good a few days ago and all of a sudden we are here fighting." I said to him and he was cold for a moment.
"You are what changed, Christopher." He responded and I felt so bad.
"Work on yourself Christopher. Goodnight." He added and covered himself with the duvet.
"I'm sorry Michael. I really am, I was just angry and frustrated please forgive me. You are all I have to find solace in." I told him but he didn't respond.
"Goodnight." I added and walked out of the room.
All the anger I felt had disappeared now and I badly regret hitting Michael. I wished I could turn back the hands of time and take it all back.
Now that things were settled with Michael even if he has not forgiven me, the next is Louise so I walked down to her room as I came out of his.
Things were really getting serious and messy so I couldn't wait until morning. I must sort them all out.
As I passed by Emily's room, I heard sobs coming from the room so I stopped by to ensure that things were fine.
"Emily, Emily." I said as I knocked on the door.
"It's open." She said and from the sound of her voice I could tell she was the one sobbing.
I walked in and saw her curl herself in her bed still sobbing.
"What is wrong Emily? Did anyone hurt you?" I asked her but she said nothing.
I tried all I could to make her talk but it was nothing but a futile effort.
Seeing that she was not giving in, I decided to let her be. I was already tired of pushing her against her will.
"See you tomorrow then." I told her and she nodded.
I walked out of her room and then to Louise's room. When I got to the door, I almost went back because I believed she should be asleep.
Instead of leaving, I thought it wise to walk in and see how she was faring.
As I opened the door, it flung open and I walked in and to my surprise, she was wide awake. Sitting on the stool at the dressing table.
"I knew you would come so I have been waiting for you." She said as I walked into the room.
"What is going on Louise? I thought we had a plan, why are you acting as though we are enemies?" I asked her as I walked over to the table.
"You are more stupid than I give credit for Christopher." She said and continued cleaning her face.
I became upset the moment I heard that but I tried to keep my cool.
"Don't get on my nerves Louise." I said to her and she started laughing arrogantly.
"Here is the trick," she began and all I could do was stare at her as I would stare at my father whenever he was talking to my late brother and I.
"We are still an item. The plan is still on, but we can't let everyone know we have something we are working on." She said and I marvelled at her words.
Knowing that we were and have been good and that she was just putting up those attitudes to keep away eyes was something I felt good about.
"If that is the case, goodnight." I said and turned to leave.
"Is that all?" She asked as though she knew I was forgetting something.
"That should be all." I said without even looking at her.
Then she stood up and hugged me from behind.
I turned and returned the hug but that was nothing close to what I needed at the moment so I pulled out as soon as I held her.
"What is the matter Christopher? Am I not attractive enough?" She asked me but I pretended not to hear her as I moved out of the room.
"Goodnight Christopher." She shouted a smile escaped from my lips before I knew it.
I entered my room and laid on the bed. All that just happened came to me like I was watching a movie. Somehow, I was proud of myself and on the other hand, I wished things went differently with Michael.
"I hope I don't lose his trust." Were the last words that came out of my mouth before I woke up to an uncertain and uncoordinated noise.
I blinked my eyes three times to have a clear view but I couldn't so I picked up my glasses. It's usually that bad in the mornings as I could barely see anything.
With the glasses on, I walked out of the room and the chattering increased. I walked down and I was told it was a meeting with the members of the pack.
Everyone was concerned about their safety but I never realised it has gotten to this.
But from the look of things, it has gone from bad to worse.
I took the podium and assuredly told them that things were under control. I got some babbling from the crowd but I didn't mind. I kept on addressing them.
When I was done, I asked Michael to discharge them and I went back to my room to freshen up.
I met Louise on the staircase and she started smiling as soon as she set eyes on me.
"Things will be much better by the time you have me as your Luna." She said with a seductive smile.
"A good morning would have been better." I responded and walked past her. I was even surprised at my response to her that I had to keep turning back to see if she got upset.
But from the look of things, she picked no offence so I continued my journey.
I came down for breakfast moments later and everyone was at the table including Michael.
"What happened to you Michael?" Emily asked him pointing at his bandaged lips.
"It's nothing actually. I will be fine." He responded and faced his food. I felt so guilty and had to apologise publicly to him.
He acted so indifferently and so everyone else joined me in apologising to him.
He couldn't bear it anymore so he had to give in.
He started laughing and everyone else joined.
It's been a long time since I saw this kind of joy in my household. We were all smiles and we had breakfast happily and we all anticipated lunch.
"I have a date tonight so I will miss dinner." Emily said.
"That's not a problem. Trust me to save you the details." Louise responded and they both chuckled.
Throughout the period we spent at the dining table having breakfast, I noticed something was just not right between Louise and Michael.
The way Michael looked at her tells he hated her so much. Louise in turn didn't give a damn about how Michael feels about her. She made sure she enjoyed herself to the fullest and all I could do was watch the both of them.
I still have to talk to Michael about Louise. What I was seeing was beyond mere hatred. There is something fishy about the nonsense they are doing and I must find out.
"Would you have a moment to spare later today Michael?" I asked him but he concentrated on chewing the food in his mouth.
"I have all day to spare." He responded as soon as he dropped the glass of water.
"We will take a walk later in the evening." I told him as I left the table.
