Chapter 52
MIRIAM'S POV
I opened my eyes and looked up at the ceiling and saw that it was beautifully decorated with balloons and flowers and I wondered what was going on.
So I sat up on the bed and looked around me and saw that the part of the bed where my body did not reach was also decorated with some flowers having a blend of red black and white colors.
The balloons up were also black white and red and they were glued to the ceiling while the ribbons used to tie them dangled directly above my head.
I noticed that the flowers on the bed were used to write something but I had to get up from the bed first before I could read what it was.
As I turned to look at my dressing table I saw a beautiful cake sitting on the table staring at me.
There were lots of chocolates and biscuits around it and all that came to my mind was to just move to the table and start eating them.
I also saw something that looked like the gift box in one corner and taking another look I noticed it was not just one gift box but they were many.
I began to wonder what exactly was going on because I was not used to this kind of treatment the last time I had something like this was the day Christopher proposed to me.
I also try to remember what had happened before now but I just couldn't lay my hands on anything.
The only thing that came to my mind was the fact that the last time I was conscious of myself I was in the hospital and now I am here lying on my bed.
I got up from the bed and walked towards the cake and almost immediately the door flung open and Trish walked in.
I just turned to look at her without saying a word to her. She also did not say anything to me; she closed the door behind her and walked away.
Suddenly she came back again and started staring at me in an unusual manner.
I wanted to ask her what exactly was going on but I was in no mood to say anything to anyone so I just kept to myself while I stood beside the dressing-table admiring the beautiful cake.
I noticed she walked away from the spot where she was standing and moved towards the door, opened it halfway and screamed 'she's awake' with a very loud voice that could be heard from quite a distance.
I didn't know who she was talking to and why she had to tell them that I was awake but I was not interested. I was only interested in the new and beautiful things I was seeing around my room.
After screaming she came back inside and walked towards me. Unlike Trish, she hugged me from the back and whispered a good morning into my ears. I felt like pushing her away but the warmth I got from her hug was something I really needed.
So I turned to face her and hugged her tightly. Before I knew it tears started dropping from my eyes even when I did not intend to cry.
I pulled away from her arms and looked into her eyes and all I could see was love and care. I was so glad I had people like her around me. She's one of my blessings.
"Where have you been, Trish ?'' I asked her because it felt like I had not seen her for a very long time. The last name I think I saw her was the day I had the meeting with the council of elders.
The very day I collapsed and was taken to the hospital.
I don't know how long I had spent in the hospital but I felt that has been a very long time and I miss her already.
"I have always been here. I have been by your side every day watching you while you slept and I'm really glad to see your eyes this morning." Trish responded to me and once again I pulled her in for another hug.
As I held her tightly with my eyes closed, I tried to reminisce about everything that had happened before but nothing came to my mind. This made me cry the more because I felt left out. I felt cheated and it was as if I was really missing out on something that I should be a part of.
"Are you sure you've been here all along?'' I questioned her hoping she would tell me everything that happened but she only smiled at me and hugged me again.
"I want to know what is going on. I want to know what all of this is. Would you mind telling me about it?" I demanded and she smiled and led me around the room like a tour guard.
She showed me every bit of the decoration and truly they were beautiful. The flowers were nicely shaped and the balloons had different shapes. She picked up one with a shape of a heart and handed it over to me with a beautiful smile.
I couldn't help smiling back at her even though the tears in my eyes kept running like a river.
"I would like you to dry those tears and just be happy, you're going to have a good life." She finally said something to me after I demanded an explanation on everything that was going on.
She led me to the bedside and had me stand at the edge of the bed and that's when I was able to see clearly what was inscribed on the bed with the flowers.
It read HAPPY NEW LIFE and I just smiled as I saw it however I began to wonder what new life they were talking about because I obviously wasn't done with this life talk more of taking up a new one.
I tried to read some meanings into it but all of my efforts were futile so I had to give up the try and allowed her to give me an explanation on everything that was going on.
And once more I demanded an explanation to all that was happening around me but her smile wouldn't allow her to talk and I was beginning to lose patience already.
Suddenly I remember that the last moment I was awake I spent it with Daniel Ivy and Cherry but none of them were here right now so I turned to her and asked her where they were.
"They will be here in no time. All you have to do is to relax and wait for them,'' she said as she held my both hands and took me to the bed and helped me sit down.
We then started the conversation and she applauded me for the way I handled the council of elders the other day stating that ever since then every member of the council of elders had been treating me with so much respect and reverence even in my absence.
I was really glad to hear that and I was happy I was able to do all that I did.
At least for once they would know that I am still that very tough alpha they had always had and I will remain so no matter the circumstance.
That beautiful story she told me actually made me happy and I kept smiling all along. I was glad that I was getting back my lost glory and I was also on track. Then I promised myself that nothing would ever make me do most of the stupid things I ever did before now.
While we were still discussing, we heard a knock on the door and Trish screamed 'come in.' Her voice was so loud and this time it seemed as though it was louder than the first time because she was much closer to me.
"Why have you been screaming all day?'' I asked her because I was not finding her screams funny. She smiled and told me that she did that just so the people on the other end could hear her.
"Well that's ok but I feel you have to apply some discretion when you are doing this. It's not that nice." I cautioned her and he smiled and rubbed my hand.
The door was now open and Daniel, Ivy and Cherry walked into the room each carrying what looks like a gift box in their hand accompanied with a bouquet of flowers.
I couldn't help but smile as they made their grand entrance into my room. The three of them were all smiles and Trish and I joined them.
They came straight to me on the bed where I was seated and started handing me the gift box in their hands one after the other.
I took it with so much joy and pleasure and placed them on the stool beside me.
"Thank you so much guys.'' I said to them as I got up to hug them one after the other.
Thereafter, they beckoned me to open the boxes to find out what exactly was in it but I was reluctant. I didn't want those surprises this morning so I told him I would open them later.
They insisted and I had no other choice but to open the gift boxes.
I was amazed at the gift I was bringing out of each box.
I never knew I had such thoughtful people around me. They bought all the things that I have ever loved and cherished and presented it to me without a cause. It was then I remembered that I don't know what all this celebration is all about so I had to ask them.
"Can someone please tell me what we are celebrating because to the best of my knowledge it is not even my birthday yet." I said that as I dropped the box and a gift that was given to me by Cherry.
"We have only decided to celebrate your new life and we are so glad to be a part of it." Daniel announced that he picked up a bottle of wine that was sitting beside the cake on the table and started opening it.
Trish rushed down to the kitchen to get some glasses while Ivy and Cherry sat down beside me. Cherry was trying to arrange my hair and Ivy was massaging my hand.
Trish came back almost immediately and it felt as though she was running all along because of the way she was panting.
"Come on, Trish , why the rush?" Ivy turned to Trish and asked her but Trish was still trying to catch her breath as she could not even say a word.
"I didn't want to miss a moment of what was going to happen so I had to run as fast as I could." Trish responded as soon as she was able to calm down and started handing everyone a glass.
We all muttered thank you as a glass reached our hand while we waited for Daniel to finish opening the bottle of wine in his hand.
He seems to be struggling with the bottle so I offered to help but he declined.
"You are the one we are celebrating today and there is no way I'm going to let you do anything. You don't even need to raise a finger." Daniel said as he continued battling with the bottle.
I felt so much love and joy within me so all I could do was smile and silently pray for them.
He finally finished opening the wine and started pouring out its contents into each of our glasses.
When it got to my turn he filled my glass to the brim such that it was almost pouring out.
"You don't have to do that,'' I said as I tried to sip from the glass just so it does not spill.
They all began to laugh at me while I struggled with the glass in my hand to prevent it from spilling on my dress.
Trisha reached for a towel in the bathroom and placed it on my leg in such a way that it covered my dress so in case the drink spills, the towel will be the one to suffer.
"Thank you'' I said to her as I adjusted the towel properly on my leg.
"Cheers to a new life and a new beginning." Daniel stated as he raised his glass up and we all followed suit.
Then, everyone began to drink from the glass after we had the toast.
"I think it's time for us to go downstairs and eat,'' Ivy said and every other person agreed with her except me. I was more concerned about the cake and not even the food.
"What about the cake?'' I said pointing at the cake that was on the dressing table and they all started laughing.
"I deliberately said that just to see your reaction I knew you would do everything to take that cake along and get it into your mouth." Ivy teased me and every other person busted out with laughter. Just as I tried to join them in the laughter, I spilled the drink that was already in my mouth because I had not swallowed it.
"Gosh you're so embarrassing." Ivy said as she stood up I walked away from me.
I started laughing at her outburst and Cherry tried to clean the mess I had just made.
After that everyone started moving out of the room and headed downstairs.
The best I could do for myself at this point in time was to pick my cake even though they were rushing me to leave the room.
On my way down I kept seeing more amazing things.
Almost every part of the house was decorated and I was already feeling lost because I had not anticipated that something like this would happen and I was not prepared for a surprise like this.
It became worse when we got downstairs as the whole living room was filled with people.
I stood on the stairs and took a close examination of everyone and everything that was going on.
I noticed that some people were sitting and some were standing. Some were talking and some sat quietly.
I looked around again and I noticed that the council of elders were seated somewhere around the dining room all dressed in their official clothings and I couldn't help but wonder.
I saw a group of people who sat aside and they were also dressed alike.
"What exactly is going on here?" I asked Trish who was standing right beside me.
"I am sure you will get to find out when we get there." She said and reached for the cake in my hand and snatched it away.
"Could you please give that back to me?" I asked her in the most polite voice I could find but she took it back upstairs while I stood there waiting for Daniel, Cherry and Ivy to meet me.
