Chapter 79

MIRIAM'S POV
After the meeting with the members of my pack, I became more disturbed about the way things were going. Everyone was scared for their safety and I was sure they had lost confidence in me. I looked at myself as I limped back inside the house after my speech.
Ivy was there to hold me, while Daniel discharged the crowd. With the way I was looking, anyone could tell that I no longer had faith in myself.
Ivy looked at me and tried to encourage me but she failed woefully. At the moment, the only thing that can bring me back to my real self was hearing that the rebels are no more.
When Daniel came inside, I looked at his face and even though he tried to hide it, all I could see was disappointment. He was clearly disappointed in me.
"It's all going to be fine." Daniel stated and although I felt that he didn't mean what he just said, I had to take solace in his words and strengthen myself. I decided in my heart as I sat down looking at all of them and decided that I would believe in myself even if no one does. And make sure I defeat the rebels.
I looked at myself and I was looking helpless. I had no clue as to what to do and the injury from the gunshot was beginning to hurt me badly.
I stood up and was about to start limping to my bedroom, but as soon as I got on my feet, Daniel swept me off my feet and carried me to my room. As we got there he laid me on my bed and stood beside the bed staring at me.
"I promise not to disappoint you, Daniel." I tried to assure Daniel and he smiled as he bent down on his knees and held my waist. I wrapped him with my legs and smiled back at him.
"I know you will and I will be right behind you, I would be here to hold your hands and also offer my shoulders when you need one to lean on." Daniel said to me and it felt like a weight left me. I was more relieved and I laid down to rest.
He saw I was tired so he helped lay me properly and was already on his way out.
Then he turned back and told me that he had called the doctor to come check me and dress my injury. I opened my eyes slightly and smiled at him. I then prayed I was able to sleep a bit before the doctor arrived.
After a few hours of sleep, Daniel came into my room to carry me to the living room as the doctor had arrived.
"We should have just gone to the hospital, that will be an opportunity to see Cherry and Trish too." I said to him but he kissed my cheeks as he carried me up.
When we got to the living room, he kept me on a couch and sat beside me.
The doctor began to open the bandage and I screamed in pain as I hit the wounds severally in the forest.
Ivy and Daniel stayed beside me and held me together and also tried to console me because I was in pain. When the doctor had finished dressing the wound, Ivy went into the kitchen to make food for me since Trish was not around.
She made me pancakes and a cup of smoothie. I couldn't go to the dining area to eat the food so she had to bring it to me in the living room and they both began to pet me to eat. I felt like a baby and I felt really loved, all the strength that I had lost earlier came back with full force. I was properly rejuvenated.
We then began to chat, Daniel and I also discussed the plan we had earlier made on how we would get the rebels out. Ivy also chipped in some ideas and Daniel was smart enough to write them down so that we can refer to it if the need arises.
"When next are you going to see my father?" Ivy asked me as she scanned through the documents and also the things that Daniel just put down.
"I intend to see him soon, it should be this evening or tomorrow. I just need to make sure that I have figured out a few things before going to see him so that I can properly answer any questions he throws at me." I responded and she nodded.
"You guys have a brilliant plan here." Ivy commended the plan of work that Daniel and I had already drawn. We both thanked her.
With the information that we have gotten, it was clear that the rebels were going to attack just this house. And as such we must make plans to be ahead of them.
"I think you have to go home Ivy." Daniel said to Ivy and I smiled because that was exactly what was on my mind. We have successfully taken Cherry out so it will also be necessary that Ivy leaves too. I am sure Daniel and I will be able to face whatever the rebels bring at least we know our way around it.
"I don't think leaving will be a good idea. I should be here at least to take care of my best friend since Trish is not here." Ivy responded and the level of care and concern I felt in her voice made me emotional. I wished I could tell her to stay but there was no way I could do that. Cheery is in the hospital today because she was attacked by the rebels. Maybe if she was not here when they came she should have been okay.
"I understand what you are saying bestie, but at this point in time, it is necessary that you leave. Daniel and I should be the only ones to face them. I don't think I would be happy to lose a loved one to the rebels." I tried to make Ivy see why she should go because I was certain that there is nothing they can do to me. Not even their werewolf of a leader can harm me no matter how strong they claim he is.
"How do you think you can do that Miriam? Look at your legs, you can barely even walk." Ivy tried to argue with me and Daniel started laughing instantly. Ivy and I did not know why he was laughing and we both looked at him in surprise. When he finally stopped, he tried to say something but he could not as he started laughing again and we both joined him.
"You don't Know the friend you have, let the rebels enter this place now and you will see Miriam jumping on their heads." Daniel stated and we all continued to laugh. Indeed, this pain will disappear as soon as I perceive any danger. But for now let me just play the role of a big baby perfectly.
While we were still having our conversation, Ivy walked upstairs to pick a few of her belongings. When she came back, she announced to us that she would be on her way already. We convinced her not to leave yet because we were supposed to go to the hospital to see Trish and Cherry.
She agreed and after spending some time in the house we headed to the hospital. On our way, we saw a lot of people on the road and it was really surprising because ever since the rebel team declared their intentions to attack, everyone has been in their houses. No one dares to come out for fear of being attacked and even killed.
"What is happening today?" I asked as I looked out through the car window. Every street was filled with people. And there was real joy on their faces.
"They are glad that their alpha spoke to them today and assured them of her protection." Ivy praised me and I became even more strengthened. I vowed to do my best to ensure their protection.
While I was smiling, Daniel looked at me and the smile that followed that beautiful stare was gorgeous.
When we got to the hospital, the doctor that just left the house was more than surprised to see us. Daniel told him we had a relative here and we came to see her.
After that, we headed to the ward where Trish and Cherry were. As we got into their room, it was completely empty. Even the lady that shared the room with her was not there so there was no one to ask of her whereabouts.
We came out of the room immediately and as we headed to the reception to make an inquiry, I heard Trish's voice from behind.
Ivy and Daniel were already ahead of me as I was struggling to walk.
I had to call them back and luckily, they quickly heard and turned back.
"Where are you guys? We were worried when we found the room empty." I said to Trish who walked to meet me and bowed and I raised her up and hugged her.
"Where is Cherry? Why weren't you in your room?" Daniel said in one breath as he walked back to meet us. Ivy just kept smiling like a high school girl in love with the most handsome guy in class.
"We were transferred to another ward. She is recovering fast and needed to leave the emergency ward." Trish answered with a broad smile on her face.
"Where is she now?" I asked as she took the bag I was carrying from my hand.
"This way," she started leading the way to the place Cherry was. We all followed her with so much joy in our hearts.
First, Trish took us to the place they stayed and made us drop the things we came with.
"Where is the Cherry we came to see?" Ivy said something for the first time and Daniel and I supported her. Trish kept smiling all along as she asked us to follow her again.
"Where are we going?" Daniel asked without even taking a step.
"She went to see the baby." Trish said and then I remembered that Cherry once told me that she is making efforts to get a baby. That also reminded me of my own child that I lost and I felt bad about it for the hundredth time but I refused to let my emotions get hold of me.
"Shall we?" Trish said as she led the way again and we filed behind her like school children on a match pass.
We walked down to the room and Trish opened the door for us. As soon as I entered the room, I spotted Cherry standing at the far end looking into one of the incubators.
Yes, the room was filled with incubators and every one of them was occupied by a tiny human, striving to survive.
I called her name and she ran to give me a hug.
"I miss you so much." She stated and I also told her how much I missed her too.
Ivy joined the hug, then Daniel and finally Trish. She showed me her baby boy and it was indeed pretty.
After that we headed back to her room and spent quite a long time with her. It was already getting dark and we needed to drop Ivy home so we told her we would be leaving. Her countenance changed immediately and we assured her we would be back for her as soon as we settle the issues we have.
"That's okay. I will miss you all." She closed her eyes and covered her face with both hands. We all smiled and she chuckled.
"Thank you for stopping by." She added.
"Anytime." I replied as I looked at Daniel who was standing right behind me.
I felt they needed some personal time together so held Ivy's hand and we walked out of the room together. Trish followed us and we stood outside.
I did not know what exactly I was looking at but I looked into the room through the transparent door and Daniel and Cherry had their lips locked. This meant something more than the one he would give me sometimes and I began to long for the arms of a man that I love.
"But that's not the focus right now." My wolf snapped me out of my thoughts and at first I was angry with her because it had been a long time since I caught myself in the world of fantasy.
"I know," I responded to her as I moved away from the door. Ivy followed me and she turned back to say goodbye to Trish who kept waving at us. She waved until I turned to see her and give her a smile.
Ivy and I got to the car but we could only stand beside it as it was locked and Daniel had the keys.
"How long do we have to wait?" Ivy asked me as though Daniel had told me how long he intends to spend with his girlfriend.
"As long as it takes Daniel to get here." I told her as I leaned on her shoulder and she wrapped me with her arms. It was a beautiful moment for me. Her hair kept flying into my face as the wind blew it. The scent of her perfume smells nicer and it was the same perfume I never liked. It reminded me of those days we would have to fight over this particular perfume. I had to give up the fight when she was able to prove to me that she was never going to change it.
We stood there staring at the sky as it turned black before us. The stars were also beginning to peep through the dark clouds gradually. It was only the moon that was absent at the moment.
"You know, sometimes I wish I could stay out all night looking at the clouds." Ivy said and broke the silence that had taken a seat beside us.
Her statement reminded me of my mate, Christopher. I have caught him several times staring at the clouds.
"It's always a beauty to behold." I said and I could feel her smile as her left cheeks swelled and touched my forehead. I looked up for a while and admired her cute smile.
Almost immediately, Daniel started walking towards us. Although I was glad he was finally here to take us out of this hospital, I wish he stayed a little bit longer.
He opened the car as he got closer and apologised for being late.
We accepted his apology in such a hurry and in no time we were out of the hospital.
Our next destination was Ivy's father's house. We needed to drop her off and I also needed to see him but I felt the time wasn't right.
"Do you think it is proper to see Ivy's father already?" I asked Daniel who acted like he did not hear me. I was angry that he did not respond to me so I pushed his hand gently and he turned to me, pulling his earpiece from his ear. I was then convinced that he didn't hear me.
"Were you saying something?" He asked me and I nodded.
"I think you should just see him at once. You don't need to know everything in the world before you meet him. Besides, you would not need him if you knew it all." Ivy answered my question from behind but I wasn't satisfied as I had not done what he asked me to do.
"I haven't done what he asked me to do. I don't think he would be pleased with me." I lamented and they both asked me why.
"I have not done what he asked me to do." I responded Ivy just laughed. Daniel did not even say a word to me.
From that moment, the drive to her house was very quiet as no one spoke to each other.
Daniel was so concentrated on the music he was listening to and Ivy abs and I occupied ourselves with our phones.
When we got to her house, she came down from the car. Daniel came down too but I sat back. They noticed I had not come with them so they both came back to get me.
We walked into the house together and also up to her father's room.
He seemed pleased to see us again as he smiled and offered us a seat. He also instructed his nurse to get us drinks.
"Please get me tea." I requested and it was granted as I was served a hot cup of tea.
When we started talking, he did not even ask about my progress so far. He only told me what to do and what not to do.
"Go to them, don't let them come to you." He simply said and I turned to look at Daniel who gave me an encouraging smile.
When we were done, Ivy saw us off to the car.
"Please be careful." Ivy held my both hands together and I assured her I would be careful enough to come back to her.
She hugged me and after a while, she let me out of her arms.
Daniel opened the car for me and helped me get in. Then we started driving back home.
When we got home, he informed me someone was here to see me earlier after the protest.
"When wasn't I informed?" I gave him a stern look because I desperately needed to see this one person that keeps coming to see me.
"You were asleep when he came." Daniel stated and I apologized for sounding harsh.
"He promised to come back tomorrow." He said and I told him to ensure I meet with this person tomorrow.
"Goodnight Alpha." He kissed my forehead and I walked slowly to my room.
