Chapter 39
CHRISTOPHER'S POV
I sat there watching the television program and waiting for Emily to come join me but the program even came to an end and she was nowhere to be found.
I wanted to go upstairs and ask Michael about her whereabouts but then I remembered that he said he needed to take a nap before the council of elders meeting so I had to allow him.
I stood up and walked out of the living room and then outside the building but she was nowhere around. I had to even walk around the whole building but I didn't see her.
I was already becoming very worried and paranoid. I kept asking everyone else around it if they saw my sister but none of them had a positive response.
I tried to assure myself that she was fine and would come back so I went back inside and sat down.
Moments later Louise walked into the sitting room and she also asked after Emily and I told her I didn't know where she was.
"I also wanted to ask you about her, I have not seen her since I left the table," I told Louise and she looked surprised. I mean she was finding it difficult to believe that I didn't know where Emily was.
"You should just sit back and wait for her. Maybe she went out to get something."Louise said in a bid to calm me down.
Then I decided to keep my mind positive and await her return.
"So tell me, have you started making plans concerning the wedding?"
I asked Louise and then she stood up from her seat and came to join me on the couch where I was sitting yet she did not say anything.
"Don't you think I should be intimated with the progress of things or are you going to just do this yourself? I asked her, but she sat down and supported her chin with her hand.
"I was waiting for you so I have not started any preparations." She stated and I was dumbfounded because I didn't understand what she meant by waiting for me. I had given her instruction to go ahead and plan yet here she is telling me that she was waiting for me.
"What do you mean by you were waiting for me? I gave you an instruction to plan the wedding with Emily and here you are telling me that you were waiting for me." I yelled and she shut me up with a kiss.
"I have not made those plans because the council of elders has not approved our marriage.
You should raise it in your meeting today so that they would have it in mind. Maybe at the next meeting, it will be approved and we will start the preparations." Louise stated as she stood up from my lap where she was already seated.
I wanted to tell her to come back. I mean I loved how that felt. It's been a while since someone held me that way. But then she was a very stubborn woman and I do not have the energy for her excesses this time around.
She wiggled her body seductively and she walked out of the sitting room. I just kept staring at her admiring her beautiful body as she walked out of my presence.
At that same moment, Emily walked in with all smiles on her face and I was wondering what was making her that happy.
"Where did you go? I have been looking for you all over the place." I attacked her as soon as she entered the sitting room.
"I have just been around,'' she answered nonchalantly and walked away.
"Come back here Emily, you got me worried, and instead of apologizing you still have the guts to walk out on me," I shouted at her and she stopped.
"Come on Christopher I thought we had gone past the stage already? Alright, I'm sorry for not informing you when I was leaving. I just had to go get something down the street."
She apologized and even came close and held me in her arms.
"That's more like it, you can now go into your room and rest if you would like to," I said to her and immediately she walked out.
As soon as she left a knock came on the door and I was too lazy to stand up to check who it was.
"Come in the door is open,'' I screamed just so the person could hear me from the other side. Whoever it was tried opening the door but the door would not open, it was then I realized that Emily had locked the door behind her as she walked inside.
I had no other option than to stand up and open the door to check who it was.
"Good evening alpha." The servant standing before me greeted me and I nodded in response.
"The council of elders is outside and from my records, it is not yet time for the meeting. Did you schedule another meeting before the usual time?" He asked me and bowed his head to the ground.
"No I didn't, however, you can let them in. There is no need to send them back when it's almost time." I responded and he bowed again before leaving my presence.
I stood at the door looking outside as the council of elders walked in.
Well, I decided to pretend I did not see them walk in so I went inside and shut the door again.
The thought of going into my room and resting for a while before the actual meeting time came into my mind. And I bought the idea without stress so I walked up to my room and laid down on my bed. Unlike the first time I came in here, I slept as soon as my body touched the bed.
While I was asleep I felt someone touching my body that was actually what woke me up. I opened my eyes and saw Louise sitting beside me on the bed.
She was the one touching my body. The way I pushed her hand surprised me too, though the truth is I was scared because of the implication this might have on us.
As much as I was supposed to get married to her soon she was my brother's wife, and I'm not supposed to be meddling with her the way I am doing until she finally becomes my wife.
"What are you doing here Louise?'' I asked her and she gave me a seductive glance. I decided not to be carried away by her looks so I tried as much as I could to guard my emotions and carried them out of the room leaving her behind. I don't mind sleeping out tonight if she doesn't leave the room I thought to myself as I walked down the stairs.
By the time I got down, I was told the meeting had already commenced.
"Who is anchoring the meeting?"I asked the servant who had told me that the meeting had commenced.
"Your better is in there with the council of elders. He told him he will join them soon." He continued.
"That's alright, thank you so much," I responded and cut him short because I felt he was going to say more and I did not have the time to listen to all he had to say.
I headed to the conference room immediately and opened the door. As soon as I got in, it felt as though a light breeze hit me and I began to feel uneasy. I could not even feel my own body.
"What the heck is going on here?" I asked as I tried to pull myself together. But no one answered me. It was so irritating and I was trying so hard not to transfer the aggression to anyone else.
The whole place was tense and it was getting heated up by the moment.
No one seems concerned or even thought it wise to put me through the progress of things so far.
I wanted to take my seat but I changed my mind and decided to stand all through the meeting.
"Do you know we have every reason to find someone else to be alpha?" Adam asked me and I was surprised because I could not tell where that was coming from. Why would they want to replace me with someone else? What wrong have I done to warrant such a level of arbitrariness from them?
I was still searching for the right words to respond to them when my beta stood to his feet and addressed them. Convincing them not to lose confidence in me yet.
"I have lost mine already. Christopher is unstable and that is not what we need at daring times such as this." Another elder commented and I was totally lost.
"Can someone please tell me what in God's name is going on here!" I roared and I was more than glad to see them tremble before me.
"We have decided to relieve you of your duty as alpha for the main time so you can have all the time in the world to sort out yourself." Another elder said and they all chuckled except me.
"What do you mean by relieving me of my duties as alpha? Have I ever complained to any of you that I can no longer handle it?" I asked them but they were all quiet.
"This had better stop if it is a joke because I am not going to take it," I warned as I finally took my seat.
They all began to look at me in a very cranky way but I wasn't disturbed at all. Even the expression on Micheal's face told a lot about lies and deceit. I was bothered about what would ever make a man that I have handed everything about me and had lived with like a brother all my life now treat me like a stranger.
I could not understand the reason behind his recent attitude. Michael has always been the one defending me in every situation but he has been acting suspicious lately.
When I was tired of the quiet and irregular and inaudible chatter that was going on among the elders, I cleared my throat to speak. But before I could begin, Micheal excused himself and walked out of the conference room.
"Is there any other issue we need to discuss today?" I inquired because I have already lost my patience and the last thing on my mind right now was to spend more time with them here.
"We were intimated about your health condition and that was why we thought of taking the alpha position away from you. Maybe until such a time that you are stable enough to handle it." One of the elders explained and I became more bewildered.
"Who told you that I have a health condition?" I queried them but no one was willing to give me any tangible response. They were all beating around the bush, telling me to find a solution instead of disturbing myself with who said what and who did not.
"You know you cannot take the alpha position away from my family. If it were possible, I would not be compelled to marry my brother's wife so we can get an heir." I reminded them but it was as though they were paid to ridicule me.
"It would take nothing but a process of initiation and we are good." The eldest corrected me and made me see that I was not their only option. This made me infuriated and I swore to deal with whoever it was that is behind all this.
"There is no need to be upset, we are only giving you a few weeks to sort things out. Else we might be forced to take some drastic steps." Another elder added as he stood up and left the room.
"All I see is a conspiracy and I would love to assure you that I will get to the bottom of this matter," I yelled and took my leave.
I walked out of the conference room with so much anger that I started punching the wall and hitting down everything that came my way.
All the servants that saw my display of folly did all they could to avoid me because I could tear someone apart with this anger. I was astonished and the only thing I could think of was to lay my hands on whoever it was that has done this.
As I kept thinking about the whole situation, the only person that came to my mind as the culprit was Micheal.
He is the only one who has access to the council of elders and if anyone must have told them something, it has to be Micheal.
"Micheal, Micheal!!" I roared as I walked into the living room but no one responded. I had to walk down to his room but he wasn't there either. On my way out of the room, I met Louise who ran back into her room as soon as she sighted me coming with such fury.
My claws were already out and the color of my eyes had changed. Anyone that beholds such is bound to hide his head but instead of putting myself in her shoes, I was angry she ran away.
Since she was not my target, I continued my search for Micheal but I could not find him. I started screaming, hitting, and throwing things and before I could come back to my senses, the face of the living room had changed.
I had practically destroyed almost everything within a few minutes of getting angry.
The whole place was in disarray and the servants that were around came by to clean up the place but I chased them all out.
I was angry and frustrated, I felt really hopeless because I didn't see why I would make so much effort and have it all slip off my hand.
I walked down to the bar and got a bottle of drink. The plan was to get drunk so I can at least get my mind off what just happened and that was what I did. And in less than an hour, I had the third bottle in my hand.
"What the hell are you doing?" That was what I heard as the bottle was taken out of my hand, although I could not tell who it was.
As I sat on the floor, I kept hearing different voices. None of which I was able to recognize at the moment. I struggled to stand on my feet and as soon as I did, it felt like someone pushed me.
I fell immediately and hit my head forcefully on the floor. I heard someone scream while I was falling and footsteps running towards me. But before they could reach me, I was already on the floor.
I went blank at the moment. It was as though a cloud of darkness surrounded me. I had even thought it was my transition and I was glad to be dying as alpha rather than allow them to strip me of my entitlement while I was still breathing.
