Chapter 75

MIRIAM'S POV
Daniel is the most brave man I think I have met. I just kept admiring his charisma and courage as I drove in my own car behind him.
The drive was long and the more I proceeded, the more confident I became that I am going to overcome it.
I would occasionally speed past Daniel and honk at him. Later on I would stop and allow him to move forward.
When we got to the point where we were supposed to drop one of the cars, Daniel pulled into the available parking lot and I followed him although I did not know why he parked.
I seem to have forgotten we had an agreement to drop one of the cars and move with only one.
"Why did you stop? We have not gotten to our destination." I walked hurriedly towards him just to make sure he was okay.
He kept staring at me like I was forgetting something and of course I was actually forgetting something.
"What is it Daniel? Why did you stop? I asked him again but instead of responding to me he opened the car and began to take out all the food items that we had taken along.
He transferred everything into my own car without even saying a word to me.
When he saw that I was beginning to get worried he started laughing at me.
"Come on, why are you laughing?" I hit his chest with my right hand and he grabbed them and pulled me closer.
"I can't believe you have forgotten so soon that we are supposed to drop one of the cars and move with the other." He said with both hands wrapped around my waist and mine was around his neck.
The only thought that came to my mind at that moment was to kiss him just the way I did earlier today but no I had to discard it.
"I'm so sorry I forgot,'' I whispered as I hugged him just to distract myself from his succulent lips that were staring at me.
"We need to get going now,'' he stated as he pulled out of my arms and went straight to open the car door for me.
I jumped into the car and put on my seatbelt while waiting for him to get in too and start driving.
"We still have a long way to go, Miriam . I want to be sure that you are ready to do this. He started as soon as he got into the car.
"I wouldn't ask you to embark on this journey with me if I wasn't ready to do it. I am ready so let's proceed as you can see we are on it already." I responded and assured him that we are going to get through with this in no time.
With that he started the engine and we drove off in such a hurry.
He sped so fast that I had to occasionally tell him to slow down.
I didn't know why I kept telling him to slow down. I was the same person that really wanted to get there on time.
"I think you are going too fast, just calm down." I said to him thinking he would reduce the speed but instead he increased it and each time he saw that I was getting frightened he would laugh at me and also do something to make me laugh just to ease the tension.
Earlier than I expected we got to our destination, as we came out of the car Daniel advised me to pack enough food in my jacket as we may not be able to come back here again until we are ready to leave.
I took his advice and started packing the food and stocking them in my jacket. He also did the same.
Although we were not able to get all the food we came with, when we finished packing the ones that our jackets could contain, we headed into the forest.
Walking down from the place we have parked our car to the forest was also another long journey. We had to park at that distance so that we wouldn't get any attention. We were spies at this moment so we needed to be extra careful so that we don't get caught.
"This place is becoming a bit too far." I complained as I tried to carry myself.
"Yeah I know but we don't have a choice do we?" Daniel responded with a question and although I was not pleased with his response I had to stay calm.
"What exactly are we even going to do? I think I am a bit confused right now." I stood at a spot and made Daniel come back to me because he was way ahead of me.
"We are here to learn their strategies so get that into your head." He said with an unfriendly tune and I was beginning to shiver before him.
"That's not how to speak to your alpha." I rebuked him and he let out a little smile and dragged my hand.
"Look Miriam, we are going to stay as calm as possible. I can see their camp over there. I really don't know how we are going to do this but we have to find ourselves in their midst." He stated and as I raised up my eyes I could see some tents from a distance
"That will be too dangerous." I complained because I learnt that their leader is a werewolf and he may attack us as soon as he sees us. As a matter of fact he will detect early that we are not part of them and they may come after us.
"Why do you think so if we can't get into their midst there is no way we can actually achieve what we came out for. We can't stay here and get all the information we need." Daniel reminded me of our inability to get a mole that could be working for us.
"So how are we going to pretend that we are part of them?"I asked him because that seems to be the issue right now.
"I don't also know how we are going to do that myself, but we need to find a way around it." He responded as he stretched his body.
"Let's get a place we can call our own camp for now." I suggested and started moving forward slowly.
Daniel followed me as if I knew what I was doing or where I was going.
"I think this will be a good place." He stopped somewhere but I could not see him where he stopped.
"Where are you Daniel, where is the good place you are talking about?" I said almost at the top of my voice. Immediately I felt a hand covering my mouth. I was scared to my bones and I started shaking but then the same hand that's covered my mouth held my waist and whispered into my ears.
It was Daniel's voice and I tried to calm down although my heart beat was as fast as a rollercoaster.
"Why did you do that Daniel you scared me." I yelled at him but in a very low tone.
"You were screaming." He responded as he dragged me along and I followed him without knowing where I was going.
The place we actually found was a perfect place.
It was hidden and could not be easily discovered but I doubt if these people will not discover it because they live in this forest.
"I think we can settle here for the meantime." Daniel stated as he sat on the ground while I was busy pushing the grasses away from my body.
"That's what you're going to get as long as we stay here." He said and immediately I stopped pushing the grasses away. I have to learn to accommodate them because they're going to be my environment for the next few days.
"We are not just going to stay here you know, you're going to keep moving." Daniel told me and I agreed with him.
"Where are we even going to sleep?" I asked him because it looked like I was already feeling sleepy. He chuckled but he didn't say anything.
I kicked him gently and he raised his face to look at me.
"Sit down, Miriam." He said and I heaved a deep sigh before sitting down on his leg.
"Come on, you're supposed to take a position elsewhere." He said pointing at the free space staring at me.
But there was no way I'm going to sit on that ground.
"Look, if you can't do this it's fine. All we would have to do is to go back home and look for another means to get all the information that we seek." Out of his mouth came the most soothing words I have heard in a long time but that was not what I wanted to hear.
I wanted to hear at this moment that I can go into that camp and get all their secrets.
"There is no way we are going back on this Daniel." I said as I drifted away from his leg I found myself sitting on the ground.
I dipped my hand into one of the pockets and brought out a pack of cheese.
"How did you know I'm going to need these?" I raised up the cheese to his face and he smiled at me.
"I have known you all my life, Miriam." He told me it felt so good to be around someone who knows me like the back of his palm.
"We have twenty minutes to be here, we will move forward as soon as you are done with that." He started and I nodded.
When I was finally done with the cheese I was eating I gave him my hand and he raised me up from the ground.
"I'm sure you know what to do when you are attacked." He stared into my eyes and I was already getting scared although I had to hide all my fears behind the most beautiful smile which he also confirmed to be beautiful.
"Yes I do know what to do." I responded to him as I put my hand into the back pocket of my trouser and brought out my gun.
"I'm glad you perfectly understand everything." He applauded me and we continued to move further.
We got very close to the camp so close that we could hear their chants.
"I think we should stop here for now." I suggested and he agreed.
There is no need moving forward when we can't possibly get into their midst.
"So are we going to sleep here tonight?" I whispered and Daniel told me that there was no way we were going to sleep. We needed to be awake and alert at all times.
This is to make sure that we don't get captured by our enemies while we are asleep.
"That's a brilliant idea. I promise to do all I can to stay awake." I responded as we sat down.
We stayed there quietly watching what they were doing.
They seem to be preparing for the battle ahead but we over here on the other hand have done nothing tangible to show you that we're about getting into something serious.
"You don't have to bother yourself about strategies, copying theirs wouldn't be a bad idea." Daniel said to me as if he was in my head.
"How did you know that I was thinking about what strategies to employ?" I asked and he smiled and pulled me closer.
"I can see all the worry written all over your face but I will just want you to know that it is going to be fine and we are in this together." He encouraged me and also assured me of his unreserved support.
I laid my head on his chest and thanked him as we both continued to enjoy the display from the rebel group.
A few minutes later they were done with their parade and it seems like everyone retired to their tents to take a rest.
I tapped Daniel because I thought he had dozed off since he was not making any sound that suggests that he hasn't.
"Yes I'm here with you." He responded as soon as I tapped the second time.
"I think this is the best time for us to get into the camp and see how we could get into their war room." I suggested and that was just the best thing I could think of at the moment.
"Yeah that's true but now is not the time let's give them some more time." He stated and I wondered whether he was aware of the fact that we really do not have the luxury of time.
"How long are we going to wait until we attack?" I was already getting angry and I spoke harshly to him.
"They just retired, and obviously most of them would not be in bed already. Let's allow them to rest their backs for a while." He responded to me and also pulled my head to his chest again, but I was no longer interested as I resisted him.
"I'm sure you know that we don't know our way around here yet. What I think we should do is first observe our environment and also know our way around it. That way we will be able to strike easily because we must have gotten every detail we need in place." Daniel explained to me and with that I was rest assured that if we followed carefully everything that he said we would definitely come out with the best results.
"That means we have to wait until morning before doing anything else." I said but he was quiet.
"I think they will be out in the morning, the other guy we captured actually said they usually come back in the evening to meet them." I reminded him of the little information we gathered from the man who was supposed to act as our mole but he disappointed me.
"If that is what he said then I would have to wait until it is dawn for them to leave so that we can enter into the camp and properly survey it." Daniel contributed to what I had just said and we held each other's hands while we watched them.
"How long do we have until day break?" I asked him as I turned to look at him. Although I could not clearly see his face because everywhere was dark and we were in the forest, I could tell that he was staring at nowhere in particular because his gaze was not even directed towards the camp.
"In less than two hours the sun will be out." Daniel stated and then I realised that we had actually spent a whole lot of time getting here.
"All right,'' I replied as I leaned on him again.
He wrapped his strong arms around me and there was this feeling of safety that I had.
I decided to close my eyes a little bit with no intention of sleeping, but I actually did.
I slept the whole time while Daniel was wide awake making sure that nothing harms us.
When it was time for me to stand up he gently woke me up and as I yawned, I felt bad that I had slept on him.
"You don't have to beat yourself all the time for the little mistakes that you make." Daniel scolded me for getting angry at myself that I had slept in instead of staying awake with him.
I am one person that easily forgives but I never learn to forgive myself.
I think it is a very bad attitude that I have because I often find myself beating myself over something that shouldn't even raise concern.
Anyway I tried to get my head off that I will think about it some other time and handle it accordingly.
But for now I have to focus on Daniel and the task that we have at hand.
"So what is the next step we are expected to take?" I asked him as he seems to be the leader of our little team.
"I think they are moving this way."Daniel pointed in the opposite direction and as I looked I saw a very large crowd going that way.
For a moment I was scared because I never thought that they would be this much.
"Are they this much?"I asked what sounded like a rhetorical question because the answer was glaring and it was also staring at me.
"We need to follow them." Daniel said as he pulled me up from the ground.
"Why should we follow them? I thought we were supposed to enter inside the camp." I looked at him because I did not understand what he had mapped out in his head.
"If we rush into the camp they may apprehend us, we actually have to follow them. If we are behind them, we will be sure that everyone has left the camp." He explained and I was satisfied.
"Well that sounds better, I never knew you were this intelligent." I teased him as we began to walk towards the direction that the rebels took.
As we moved further I began to hear a sound and I called Daniels attention to it.
We had to stop and take another route since we were not sure of what awaited us if we moved further.
From our location we could clearly see inside the camp and the whole campground was empty by this time already, but we were not sure of the tents.
So we had to stay put and watch for a while before venturing into the camp.
After staying for quite a long time, no one came out of the tent. Neither did anyone return back to the camp. We decided to enter inside the camp, but would have to look for our way in and also create a way out first before relaxing and comfortably carrying out our mission.
