Chapter 37
MIRIAM'S POV
We all turned to look at each other but none of us could tell what was wrong. Cherry wanted to rush after him but I asked her not to.
"Give him some time and space. I am sure he will come around." I told her as she attempted running after him as he walked past us.
"Don't worry he will be just fine." Ivy added and I was glad to see Cherry's face lighten up again. There was something exciting about Cherry and that is something I need to learn. She knows how to handle even the most difficult situations and still come out strong.
I thought of asking her how she does it but I felt like I have had too much for a whole day already and to think that the day was still very young. I mean it was still morning, yet it felt as though it was evening.
I was totally exhausted and my whole body was becoming weak. I couldn't tell the ladies around me because I did not want anything that would make them scared or something. I just had to lock it up even though I knew fully well that I wasn't alright.
My head banged as though different drums were being played in there already. Now I know why Daniel finds it difficult to give me reports after each conference meeting he has with the council of elders. Those creatures know how best to sap the little energy you are trying to survive with.
After I had relaxed for a while, I told Trish to stop massaging my legs. Ivy had left my shoulders a long time ago as she had to go answer a call. She still hasn't returned since she left for that purpose.
"Don't you think I should actually go check up on Daniel? I feel he is hurting." Cherry said with a troubled face and I was becoming worried too.
"I don't think whatever it is that is bothering him is personal. It is as a result of the meeting he just had with the council of elders, and if there is anyone that should make sure he is fine, that must be me. But for now, let's give him some space to process things, I am sure that would help." I tried to make Cherry see why she should not bother Daniel for the meantime.
"If you say so then it is fine. I guess I am probably overreacting." She stated and I was glad she was willing to let me handle things myself.
"I am going for a walk, do you mind if I ask for your company?" I asked Cherry and she reluctantly agreed to follow me.
"Trish, Trisha!!" I screamed as she was nowhere close to the living room. She still didn't respond so I called other servants that were close by and asked the one that answered me to help me call Trish.
"Trish stepped out, alpha." He bowed his head to the ground as he gave a response.
I wondered where she must be as I did not see her leave the house nor did she tell me she was going somewhere.
"Don't worry she will be back in no time. I guess it was something important." Cherry said as she walked towards the dining.
"Do you need her to do something for you?" She asked me as she picked up an apple from the table and threw it at me. I managed to catch the apple and it got into my mouth as soon as I did.
"Don't throw things at me again, I'm not a good catcher." I told her and she chuckled.
"But you caught it." She sneered as she walked over to me with a plate full of apples.
"Hmm, this tastes good. Where did you get it from?" I asked as I enjoyed the apple, closing my eyes and concentrating on its taste in my mouth.
"The housekeeper bought it. You should thank him when you see him." She responded and I just couldn't get over the apple. In less than a minute, I had finished the one she threw at me and reached for another one on the plate she came with.
"I need my phone. I left it on my dressing table. That is what I wanted to Trish to get for me." U told Cherry and she got up immediately as my eyes caught her climbing up the stairs.
Ivy was climbing down at the same time and they both stopped by each other to talk. An outburst of laughter came after their short conversation as both ladies went their different ways.
"Hey Miriam." Ivy said as she sat beside me giving me a look that was kind of scary.
"What's up? How long would it take to take just one call?" I asked her and she smirked.
"Nothing serious, we were just talking about stuff." She answered as she took the apple I had in my hand.
"Why don't you help yourself with those?" I told her pointing at the plate filled with apples sitting majestically on the table.
"I'm okay with this one." She tossed the half apple she had taken from me in the air. I had to take another one and started eating.
"Where is Trisha? I have been looking for her everywhere." I told her and she looked at me for a while without saying a word. I was beginning to get confused as she acted like she didn't know where Trish had gone.
I waved at her and it was as if she came back from wonderland.
"I sent her on an errand." She finally spoke out after keeping me waiting for a while.
"Don't do this again." I warned her because I didn't find the suspense any funny at all.
"What did I do now?" She asked me, acting as though she did not know why I was upset.
"Don't startle me again, it's not funny at all." I emphasised and she laughed, holding my both hands and pulling me in for a hug.
I pushed her away but she still held me tightly and I could not get out of her arms.
"I have told my father you would want to see him. So you have to prepare yourself for it." Ivy announced to me and for a second, I was happy that I was going to meet her father. This meeting would be one that would transform my mind and I was damn excited about it.
How can I even go there looking like this? I thought to myself as I was already contemplating cancelling the appointment in my head.
"When would he be disposed to see me?" I asked Ivy who was nodding her head to the beat if the music she was playing. Someone that just spoke to me moments ago could not even wait to get my response. She already had her headphones covering both of her ears and I was just frustrated.
I shook her but instead of listening to me, she stood up and started dancing and shaking me and dancing with her.
I had no other option than to stand up and pull the head phone from her ears and she stopped dancing immediately.
"What is it Miriam? Just join me, let's dance and have a good time. Besides, dancing is a form of exercise and you need it for the baby." She declared as she dragged the head phone from me.
"What music am I supposed to dance to since you have the head phones to yourself?" I said and took my seat.
Instead of this girl to give me some attention and hear what I have to say, she disconnected the head phone from her phone with which she was playing the sound and the whole room became noisy.
"I don't want to dance Ivy. When will your father be disposed to see me?" I asked again now that her ears were no longer blocked.
"He would work with your schedule. He is old and glued to his bed. So you can always catch him." She sat down beside and reached for her phone and tuned down the volume of the music.
"Just put it off. I don't think I need that noise at the moment." I told her but she snubbed me and left it the way she tuned it.
"Why are you so stubborn?" I teased her and she began to laugh heuristically.
"You will only know what you have done to yourself when you get jilted." I told her as I stood up to stretch. I now stretch almost all the time, because I feel stiff if I stay at a place for too long.
"Who is going to do that to me?"She asked as she laughed like a baby. The moment was so beautiful, the smile on her face and the fact that she is my best friend made me giggle.
As I sat down again, my eyes went to the wall clock and I found that it was over an hour since Cherry went up to get my phone. We were supposed to go out for a walk and it's almost noon yet she is not back.
"Why do you have that worried look on your face? Is everything alright?" Ivy asked as she pulled my face and turned it from one corner to another.
"I sent Cherry to go get my phone and it's been over an hour already. " I complained as I stared continuously at the staircase.
"Maybe she had to do things for Daniel." Ivy told me and I reminded her I had told her not to go near Daniel for now.
"So who should go near Daniel?" Ivy retorted and I was already getting tired of the fact that she would not run out of ideas to defend herself and her points.
"I just thought it would be wise that he is left alone for the moment. I think he has stuff to sort out and he will be fine. You know Daniel is not like that." I told her and she acted so indifferently.
"She is his girlfriend." She sang in my ears and then I just realised it was no good arguing with Ivy because you would never win, neither would you have the final statement. She knows how best to sustain and win an argument.
So I just stood up and left the living room, I was going to get the phone myself and I was going to have my walk alone too.
"Are you going to make them a crowd?" Ivy threw what I would call an insult to me and as those words hit, I just stood still and turned back to look at her. She was serious with her phone and the apples too.
"Did you just say that? Come on Ivy, I am going to my room to get the phone myself and not to meet Daniel and Cherry." I defended myself and she pretended to be too occupied to hear me.
Having said that, I hurried up the stairs and went straight to my room. By the time I got there? The door was partly open and there was Cherry lying on the bed with the phone in her hand. I quietly took the phone from her and left the room like I never entered.
As I walked back, her peaceful and beautiful face was all I was seeing all along and I began to fantasise about having a daughter as beautiful and angelic as Cherry. For the first time since this pregnancy, I had a positive thought about the child I was carrying..
I walked into the living room with that smile on my face and did all I could to ignore Ivy despite all the tantrums she threw at me.
"Lift the handle to the left ." Ivy instructed me when she noticed I have been struggling with the door for a while.
"Please learn how to do these basic things. It would come in handy." She added as I walked out of the building.
"Wait for me Miriam." Ivy screamed from the living room and her voice sounded as though she was standing right beside me.
"Please open the gate." I ordered the gateman but he politely refused.
"What do you mean by you can't?" I inquired as I was already getting upset. Then I remembered what happened the day I attacked Daniel. It was just the same situation and so I calmed myself down as I didn't want what happened that day to repeat itself.
"Who gave you that order?" I asked the gateman in the most calm voice I could find because my wolf was already charging me to kick his butt.
"Your beta did." He responded with his face still bentv to the ground and I smiled. Not because I found what he was doing interesting or amusing. I just have to stay calm..
By this time, Ivy was already standing behind me.
"Here, you still left your phone behind." She said as she passed the phone to me.
"And why are you still standing here? She asked as she stepped from the spot she stood behind me and stood in front of me.
"I am going to say this for the very last time, open the gate." I yelled at the gateman but he stood there without shaking. Before I could realise what was happening, I had pushed Ivy away and slapped the gateman really hard.
"This is what you should have done to Chris and that bitch called Louise." My wolf said and I totally regretted letting them go the way I did.
"You didn't have to do that Miriam." Ivy scolded me as she walked back to where I was again. The next thing I did was snatch the keys from him and open the gate by myself.
He stood there holding his face while Ivy tried to console him and I walked as fast as I could to where I really do not know.
Although I was praying he wouldn't lose a tooth because the slap was really hard, I assured myself that he got what he deserved.
As I turned back again, I saw Ivy running after me with so much speed. I started walking faster too and hoping to see a bend so I could turn and get off her sight but that was not possible. The road was quiet and straight.
After a few minutes, I could no longer keep up with my pace so I slowed down and in less than a minute she caught up with me.
"You should apologise to him when you get back." Ivy said as she stopped at the point she met me and tried to catch her breath.
"He should know better than being disrespectful and rebellious." I said but she was still at that point she met me so she obviously did not hear me.
I had to wait for her to walk down to meet me again and it took her a long time before she did.
"Daniel has to tell me why he gave such an order." I told Ivy angrily as we walked down the street.
"Save Daniel the sermon,he did no such thing." Ivy defended him.
"Then who did?" I was surprised because I heard the gateman clearly utter your beta.
"Let's enjoy this walk first." Ivy responded as she grabbed my hand and swinged it as we moved.
