Chapter 85
Defeating the rebels
MIRIAM'S POV
After every other person left, Daniel and I continued to go over the plans we had earlier made. He assured me things were alright and that we could proceed with what we have at hand.
"We have a few hours." I said but he did not respond. A whole lot was running through my mind.
"Do you think Christopher will sabotage this?" I had to let out one of my major concerns and Daniel looked surprised.
"You are in the best position to answer this question." He told me and, honestly, I knew Christopher better.
We finished up what we were doing and got dressed.
"Do you want him out?" Daniel asked me after a while.
"No." I simply said and that was the last conversation we had until we left the house.
We were a bit too early and I was getting tense. Daniel then handed me some pills and I wondered what it was.
"Take two tablets." He instructed but I had three tablets in my palm.
Dropping the third tablet, I hurriedly swallowed the other two and rested my head.
"I hope you are not trying to dope me." I said.
"I won't even think of it." He smiled and looked away.
He drove carefully as we were pretty early. We got to the beach at exactly 7:37 pm.
"I will be over there." Daniel told me as he jumped out of the car. There was no need to stay apart so I followed him as he walked towards the water.
The serenity of the environment made me wish to be here all day.
"We have almost two hours to wait." I told him.
"Yeah." He responded as he sat in the sand.
I moved a few feets away from him as I opened the bottle in my hand. He turned to look at me and then looked away almost immediately.
Before I could finish the content of the bottle, Christopher and his military arrived.
I commended them for being early as we waited for the others.
Moments later, everyone had arrived and was anxious to start executing the plans we had already made.
"There is no adjustment, we must strictly follow the plan." I said after demanding and getting their attention.
The distance between the beach where we had agreed to meet and the rebels camp could be covered on foot in less than two hours. Thus we decided to walk down there.
"I hope you will sign the divorce papers as soon as this is over." Christopher whispered as he walked beside me.
"That was the agreement, and I will honor it." I answered.
"You don't have to do it, you know." He said again and I smiled.
"You help me defeat the rebels, and I sign the divorce papers." I reminded him and walked away.
Before long, we were already in the forest leading to the rebel camp.
No one has been to the camp except Daniel and I. So the group that got there first had to wait for my beta and I to come take the lead.
Daniel held my hand as we walked in front of our team without even saying a word to them. After jumping the hurdles in the forest which I presumed must have been kept there by the rebels, and killing a handful of them, we got to the camp.
"You all wait here." I told them as I and Daniel walked further.
"Wait." The head of my military commanded and we stopped.
"Let us take it from here." He added as he moved closer and beckoned on his team to follow.
"Please don't kill the leader yet, I need to see him." Daniel said to him and he nodded.
We stood by and allowed the military we had come with to go ahead of us. Daniel, Christopher and I walked behind them.
The battle had begun before the three of us got to the rebel camp and we joined in immediately.
It took us only a few hours to kill most of them and capture their leaders.
"Set the camp on fire." I ordered them as I walked out.
Daniel walked behind me while Christopher led the team that held the leadership of the rebel group captive.
We lost some of our men, but I was glad we reached our goals.
On getting to the forest, the whole place was lit up because of the fire from the camp which was already burning.
The vehicles we came with were already waiting for us as we stepped out of the forest, thus we didn't need to walk back to the beach anymore.
"Detain them." I instructed as we zoomed off.
We headed back to my castle and I felt really proud.
"What about the abducted elder?" Daniel asked me.
"He has been found." I answered promptly and he was shocked.
"When did that happen?" He asked in shock.
"Earlier today." I said.
"Cool." He added and he took a sip from the bottle of water in his hand.
"I never thought this would be a walk over." He added.
"It wasn't that easy either." I said and he agreed. We had just put in our best and I was glad we were able to get everything done, just as planned.
"This should be celebrated." He smiled and I couldn't agree more.
My heart was gladdened and once again, I felt like the Omega Alpha whose praises were sung all over.
The streets were as calm as the graveyard as we drove past. A part of me loved the serenity of the environment and the other part was happy that the streets will be noisy again.
"You think this is all over?" I asked Daniel as it looked so surreal.
"We are never fighting this battle again." He assured me and I took a deep breath.
"Let's have a party tomorrow, this should be celebrated." I suggested.
"We should have a party but not tomorrow." He added immediately and I did not bother asking him why.
We were warmly received as we drove into my house. The chants from the servants were so soothing. It made me feel like the best thing that could happen to anyone.
Soon after our arrival, my military and that of Christopher was ready to leave.
I addressed them and appreciated them for their efforts.
"You should catch some sleep." Christopher said.
"Yeah, but I think we should settle our scores." I responded.
"We have only a divorce paper to sign, so don't panic." He said and started walking away.
"Say hello to Louise." I said and he turned to look at me.
I walked inside the building and straight to my room.
That night was the longest night I have ever had.
I slept off and woke up quite early.
*******
"You are ready for the meeting I guess." Daniel said as I walked down the stairs.
I wasn't aware I should be in any meeting this early so I quietly grabbed the coffee in his hand and walked away.
I needed some fresh air and some time alone. The plan was to take a walk around the pack and observe the environment this morning.
Then I would speak with Christopher when I return but as I stepped outside the gate, I met a large crowd.
The chatter among them was enough to make me go deaf. After the noise reduced, I tried to speak to them but I was interrupted by another cheering.
"Can we just stay calm for a while?" Daniel demanded the cheering stop.
"It is no longer news that the rebels have been taken down." I started and the chatter began and lasted for a while. I allowed them to express their joy, peace has eluded them for a while.
"With this, I'm sure life returns to normal." I continued even with the noise and moved back inside my castle.
"Make sure they leave soon." I instructed Daniel and he went back to the gate.
Moments later he returned.
"I have instructed the security men to dispatch them." He gave me feedback before I got to ask.
"Okay. I need to get to the military base, we move as soon as the crowd is taken care of." I notified him and took a walk around the compound instead.
I kept thinking of the incident of last night and how much I have put into this. It was worth it after all and I was excited I took the risk.
"We are good." Daniel snapped me out of my thoughts and without saying a word, I followed him.
He opened the back seat for me as we got to the car.
"Why?" I asked.
"We have company." He pointed at the policeman who was already seated in the driver's seat.
I climbed and sat in the car and Daniel did the same.
"Why do you want to go to the military base?" Daniel asked me as we drove out of the house.
"We have unfinished business." I said but he seemed not to remember.
"We need to execute the leaders of the rebel group we had captured." I explained further and he nodded.
We kept on talking and laughing about our victory and how we intend to make life in the pack more interesting.
"We are here." The police man that drove us announced and we stepped out of the car immediately.
I was guarded into the commander's office. He was in a meeting with some of his subordinates when I walked in.
"Good morning Alpha." They all chorused as I was offered a seat.
"Good morning." I responded and sat down.
I bent down to look at my phone to allow the commander some time to finish with his men . He excused them instantly and gave me maximum attention.
"What do you what?" He asked as he rolled his eyes.
"I want to know what you have done with the leaders of the rebels." I stated my mission.
"I imprisoned them, I was actually waiting for your directives on what to do with them." He explained and I was glad he waited.
"How many are they?" I asked him.
"Just three. Mr James is being assisted by the other two." He responded.
"Kill them." I said and stood up to leave.
"Before then, I will love to see them." I added and resumed my seat.
"You want to see them now?" He asked and I gave an affirmative nod.
He led me out of his office to the cell where they were kept.
Their worn faces and exhausted bodies laid in bed to which they were chained.
I looked among the three to know which is Mr James but their names weren't written on their faces.
"Which of you is Mr James?" I asked and the officer that accompanied me pointed at the man by the middle. He tried to stand up but was restricted by the chains.
"So tell me, what brought about all this?" I asked him and he spat at me.
I was a distance apart so the saliva didn't touch me.
"Greed, that's what made him start this." One of the men in the cell responded and I couldn't agree more.
"I see you regret it." I said to the other man who just spoke.
"I would not be here if I had not listened to him." He said. The other one also attempted making a case for himself.
"Save it, my dear. Either way, you are going to feed the earth." I said and walked out.
"It's never going to be the same." Mr James finally spoke and I turned around to look at Daniel who started laughing sarcastically.
"That's true, at least I will have some peace." I responded and walked away.
The commander assured me that the killing would be immediate so we left after spending a long time there.
"Where are we headed now?" Daniel asked as we entered the car.
"Home, that should be our next destination." I said and the car engine started.
"We should pass by the hospital." He suggested but I didn't feel like going to the hospital.
"We don't have to do that today." I said and he didn't argue with me.
Driving back home took longer than expected, when asked why the delay, the policeman driving us argued that he was enjoying the peace and wouldn't want to go back home just immediately.
He was still speaking when my phone rang, it was the military commander.
"They are being led out for execution." He said and I felt the need to be there.
Thus I asked the driver to turn around and we were yet again headed to the military base.
By the time we got there, the process had already started.
"They look so weak," I said as I took a close look at each of them.
"That's to make sure they don't outsmart us." The military commander responded.
"What did you do to them?" I questioned and he smiled.
"Just a little dose of heroin." He scoffed as I turned to look at them again.
Just before I could take my eyes off them, three of them were shot at the same time.
The junior officers carried their bodies away and destroyed them.
"Good job." I commended the army chief and shook hands with him.
"Did you get all the information you needed from them?" He asked me.
"I never thought I would need anything from them so I didn't ask." I answered.
"Okay, have a good day." He said and walked off.
We were quite close to the house when our car was flagged down by a little girl standing along the road.
The thought of stopping by and picking her crossed my mind but the look Daniel gave me made me have a rethink.
"Don't stop." He instructed the driver who sped up.
On getting home, we met the elders seated in the living room.
"I never called for a meeting." I stated as I walked into the living room and they all stood to their feet, something they have never done in a long time.
"That notwithstanding, I will listen to you." I took my seat and was already sipping another cup of coffee Daniel just handed me.
"We are impressed by your show of expertise. We really commend your enterprise." One of them said.
I listened carefully to all of them as they took turns to speak. I was really impressed with their remarks but I didn't let them see the excitement on my face.
When they were done talking, Daniel responded to them on my behalf and discharged them.
"How long would the alpha take to rest before we begin other activities?" The elders member of the council asked as he folded his hand behind him.
"You will be notified of every development." Daniel said again as I was too busy with my coffee.
He walked out of the living room while I sat back thinking of my next moves.
