Chapter 76
MIRIAM'S POV
We entered the camp through one of the windows of the tents.
Before we actually proceeded, we made sure that that particular tent was completely empty. So we were able to penetrate without any hindrance there.
The next step was creating an exit that will be easy for the both of us.
We had to tear open the window and make a door out of it. That way, if we get chased, we can easily run into this particular tent and run out through the door we have created.
Behind it is a forest that we can easily run into and not get caught, because the colour of the clothes we were wearing, easily blended with the grasses and trees.
I walked towards the door of this particular tent that we have gotten into the camp through but Daniel stayed behind, I turned to call him but to my surprise I was all alone in the tent.
I did not know how he got out or where he went.
I had to turn back and as I got to the new door we created and I saw him there.
I didn't know what exactly he was doing so I had to ask and he told me that he was trying to make the path of our exit much easier.
"you're the one that said we don't have the luxury of time, forget about this thing you are doing. Let's move on and get what we want. We will always get out when we are done." I told him and he followed me immediately.
The real door to this particular tent led to the main campground. I took some time to observe the whole place and I found out that one particular tent was different from the others.
"That's it.''I pointed to this golden tent which looked like something that harboured everything I was looking for.
"What's that?" Daniel asked promptly because he seemed not to have noticed what I just saw.
So I drew his attention to the tent that was at the other extreme.
"How do we get there?" He asked me and I looked around to find a way that we could take and easily get to it.
"Someone may be hiding in one of those tents, therefore, if we come out openly we will be attacked." I said as I grinded my teeth.
"So what do you suggest we do?" Daniel asked and, I tried to figure it out but nothing came to mind.
"I think we should go back to where we came from." Daniel suggested and I looked at him with so much disappointment because I never thought he would say something like that.
"Hey, I don't mean we should go back into the forest. What I'm trying to say is that we would have to come out of this tent and walk behind all the tents until we get to that last one." He made his position clear and I agreed with him.
That moment we took a turn and came out of the tent. It was actually very difficult walking behind the tents because they were built very close to the forest.
The ropes that were used to hold it down made us move slowly as we would have to carefully cross it.
We finally got to this last tent and then I realised that that was the place we got to when we started hearing an unusual sound and had to go back and take another route.
Since it was a place we have aimed for, I did all I could to make sure I get that feeling I had when we got to the spot the first time out of my mind just so it wouldn't dissuade me from doing what I want to do.
"So how do we get in here? This particular window looks smaller than the other ones." Daniel asked me and I told him that the best option we have available to us at the moment is to tear down the window as we did to the other one and create a door.
But before then, we have to make sure that there is no one in this tent. Since the window was a bit high Daniel had to carry me on his shoulder and I peeped into the tent and so it was completely devoid of a soul. Although it has littered in it, papers.
"There is no one in there." I told him and he put me down immediately.
"Tear it down." I commanded and Daniel got at it immediately as he brought out the knife he had used in cutting the other one and began to cut this one.
When he was done I told him not to bother entering the room with me. He had to stand by and be on guard ensuring that the whole place is safe.
I entered the little room, and began to search through the papers as though I was the one that kept them there.
After scattering the table, I got hold of some important documents.
The one I was very much excited to have was the one on which we have drawn their plan.
"I'm so excited to have you all in my hand." I said to the papers as though they could hear me.
I looked at the room and tried to keep it the same way I had met it, but that was nothing but impossible because I literally tumbled the place.
I walked out of the room immediately. Daniel rushed towards me the moment he saw me come out.
"What have you got?" He asked and I told him not to bother about it until we get out of here.
So immediately we started running back to where we had come from.
After running for a few minutes, I felt so exhausted so I had to stop to take some water. Thereafter, Daniel offered to carry me and I was so happy because he relieved me of the stress of dragging myself in this forest since my leg was beginning to hurt.
After walking another distance I told him to put me down but he refused and continued to carry me. We finally got to the point where I could clearly see the car where we parked it so I jumped down from his back and began to walk towards it.
I got to the car before he did and I stood by waiting for him while holding the documents as if my life depended on them.
"I never thought it would be this easy." I stated as Daniel came closer to me.
"It's not over until we get home." He said and with that, I jumped into the car as soon as he opened it with the remote.
Daniel started driving and the speed he drove with this time was much more than the other one I complained about.
I didn't even try to bother him because I knew that he was doing his best to get out of this place on time.
"Thank you for being strong." He squeezed my hand and then lifted it up and kissed it. I smiled as I was also proud of myself.
Then I began to properly look through the documents I have in my possession.
The first one I saw was the agreement between the rebels and the leader they appointed.
"I think I'm familiar with this name." I said to Daniel as I looked closely at the name of the leader of the rebel group.
"You mean Mr James?" Daniel responded with a question.
"Yes," I replied without even letting the words drop.
"You don't have to be frightened, we would surely get him down." Daniel's words are always very encouraging and soothing to the soul. He has the ability of penetrating your heart with words amd make you love him even when you didn't intend to.
"I know we can." I agreed to what he had just said and for a moment I saw pride in his eyes.
"The plan is to attack the silver moon pack and the blood moon pack." I said with a tune that suggests that I was concerned about the welfare and the well being of people in the blood moon pack.
"You are not supposed to be bothering yourself with this, all you have to do is to handle your pack." Daniel stated but I was more concerned because I oversee all of those packs including the blood moon pack so there was no way I would just leave them like that except Christopher would not need my help.
I dipped my hand into my pocket and brought out another snack and started eating. I then asked Daniel why he had not had something to eat ever since we came here. The best he could do was smile at me and encourage me to eat.
We finally drove to where we had left Daniel's car so he pulled over and parked.
"I honestly do not have the energy to drive right now." I stated but there was no way I am going to leave the car here.
He gave me a blank stare that suggested that I did not have a choice and truly I didn't so I had to come down from the passenger side and went over to the driver's side. He walked to his own car too.
I ignited the engine as soon as I got into the car and started driving off.
Daniel was coming behind me but he wasn't driving as fast as he drove the other times.
I kept thinking about the adventure we just went on and I couldn't help but applaud myself and Daniel.
Although it wasn't that easy, we don't have so much of a tough time.
I wanted to stop by at Ivy's father's house and tell him about the first thing that I have done, but I changed my mind and decided to go study these things first so that when I go to him I will properly answer most of the questions he will likely ask me.
I looked to the side mirror and I saw Daniel coming close because I had slowed down a bit just so that he could meet up with my pace.
In a few seconds he did and in no time we were side by side with each other.
"Why did you slow down? He asked me and I gave him a stern look.
"Don't give me that." He teased.
"Waiting for you." I stated and I zoomed off immediately. He also followed me with the same speed. Although the distance was quite long, we got home a bit early.
As soon as we drove into the compound and parked, Daniel came straight to my car and sat down inside even when I had already gotten out.
I had to get back into the car so I could attend to him.
"What is it? I thought you were tired already and the truth is you really need to rest." I said to him but he did not say anything in response.
"Are you giving those to the police?" He pointed at the papers in my hand and I gave him a resounding no.
"I'm glad you did not even think of that because it will be the most stupid thing you would ever do." He said to me as he opens the door came down from the car.
I also came down from the car and we both walked inside the building.
It was already getting late so I told him to go and rest.
"We will discuss this tomorrow." I said to him and he agreed with me so we both walked up the stairs together.
When we got to the place where we're supposed to part ways to our different rooms, Daniel grabbed me and hugged me tightly.
"Goodnight Daniel." I said as I pushed my room door open I walked into the room.
He also muttered a goodnight and walked away from my door.
I locked it as soon as I got in. I rushed to the bathroom to have my bath without even taking out the clothes I was wearing.
So I had to come out again. I started pulling out the food I had packed first because I did not need it at the moment anymore.
I dropped everything on the table and called someone to come and get them.
Thereafter I went into the bathroom and stood under the shower looking at it as though I didn't know what to do with it.
After standing for a while, I turned it on and watched the water as it came down, hitting my face. Some of its drops entered my eyes but to my greatest surprise,I didn't even blink.
After having my bath, I needed cooked food so I instructed the cook to get me some while I sat in the living room studying the materials we just stole from the rebels.
Daniel finished freshening up too and joined me in the living room.
He picked up and examined each piece of paper I dropped.
"Instead of having dinner here? Why don't we go somewhere like a resort to unwind?" Daniel dropped the paper in his hand and touched my leg. I looked at him with the intention of declining his proposal because I was not just interested in anything not related to fun until this is all over.
"Daniel, I know you are exhausted, but there is no way we can think of something like this when we are not even sure of our safety." I softly told him and made him see why we need to concentrate on what we have started already.
And he agreed with me without even arguing.
"So what are you working on?" He asked as he dropped the paper in hand.
"This is the only thing that is important here." I raised up the document I had in my hand and he took it from my hand.
"What about these?" He referred to the ones lying on the floor and I told him they were not necessary.
"Then we would have to discard them." He started gathering them and I told him not to dispose of them yet.
"So what should I do with them?" He asked me and I told him to just keep them.
"I will keep these ones." I added as I stood up to go and keep them.
I walked into my room and went straight to the safe to keep the documents. It contained their mode of operation and the strategies they have put in place to achieve their aim.
From what I have here, all they want to do is attack and capture me. They did not state what they would do with me afterwards. The only thing they did not put down is the take over strategy.
After locking the safe, I stood aside and looked at it. Then I began to rearrange my closet. I used most of the items I had in there to cover it. Taking a deep breath, I walked out of the closet and laid on the bed with my two eyes closed as my hand rested on my forehead.
A knock came one the door and since I couldn't stand up, I told the person on the other side to shout.
"Please open the door," Daniel's voice came and I had to smuggle my lazy body out of the bed to the door.
"I am on my way out. Just thought of informing you." He said and turned to leave immediately.
"Where are you off to?" I asked as I needed to know his whereabouts in case of an emergency.
"The hospital. I need to see Cherry." He said and my heart melted. He must have missed her so much.
"That's okay, just extend my regards to her. And be careful." I said as I walked behind him.
"Isn't it late? You should just wait until tomorrow." I stated as we walked down the stairs. But he didn't respond.
"We could just give them a call." I added as I jumped on his back and he staggered and we landed on the floor.
While we struggled to stand up, we heard a knock on the door. The servant that was there went to get it and it was the gateman.
"Good evening alpha." He greeted me and I responded too. He also muttered a greeting to Daniel who did not even look at his face. He was on his feet already so he helped me get up.
"The council of elders came over to see you earlier. " He said and I asked him why because after our last meeting, there was no reason for another meeting again.
"They said nothing to me, they insisted on seeing you but after I told them you were not in, they left." He continued and I thanked him and asked him to leave.
He walked to the door and stopped like someone who was trying to remember something.
"Is there something else you would want to tell me?" I asked him as he turned to face us with a worried look.
"A young man was also here. Exactly the same time the elders came. He looked distressed and was bent on seeing you." He said and Daniel and I stared at each other.
The only person that came to my mind at that time was Micheal. And I thought to myself that I needed to see him.
Then I remembered he had called me earlier while I was driving back home but I didn't respond. And he said something about Chris being here. Could it be Christopher? I thought to myself as I stared at the gateman.
"What is his name?" Daniel asked him.
"I did not ask him what his name is. I am sure he will be back." He stuttered.
"Make sure I see him whenever he comes back." I instructed him and he walked out.
I got to my phone and dialled Micheal's number as I was already anxious but it was not going through.
"Dinner is ready." The cook said, dragging me out of my cloud of thought.
"Are you still going to the hospital?" I looked at Daniel who looked like a wounded lion.
"I would just wait until tomorrow." He said as he placed his hands on my shoulders and led me to the dining area.
