Chapter 14

Insecurities
MIRIAM'S POV
Cherry watched me drink the coffee and was obviously wondering why I kept my face the way I did. She couldn't help but ask me.
"What is wrong Miriam? You don't like my coffee?" She asked with so much concern in her voice. I stood up from the bed immediately because I had a lump in my throat and I needed it out.
As soon as I got to the bathroom, I puked . She ran after me to be sure that I was good and she helped lift my hair and prevented it from touching the vomit.
"You need to see a doctor." She said in a manner that sounded like I had no other option but to do as she had instructed.
"I'm pregnant, not sick." I told her as we moved out of the bathroom.
"That the more reason you need to see a doctor." She repeated with so much apprehension in her voice. She was no longer calm. She started pacing all over the place and kept telling me we must go to the hospital at that very moment.
"Hey, I would be just fine, maybe the baby doesn't want the coffee as much as I do and I will learn to cope with it." I responded in a loud voice trying to calm her down.
"You don't understand, do you? I lost my babies. I lost two of them and that was because I didn't get to the hospital early enough. I don't want that to happen to you Miriam." She said and I was able to see her fears.
"I'm so sorry about that, how did Daniel take it?" I asked her.
She walked away from the door where she was already standing and came to sit with me on the bed.
"They weren't Daniel's babies. I had gotten pregnant long before I met Daniel but I lost the two of them. People said I didn't seek medical help early enough. But what happened was that I lost my babies even before I realised I was pregnant." She explained and started sobbing. I had to come closer and comfort her.
"It's just going to be fine. And you will lose no more babies." I assured her and she wiped her face. She gave me the warmest smile I have seen in a while and insisted I followed her to the hospital.
After some deliberations and arguments, I agreed and I was asked to freshen up while she went to make me breakfast.
While I was in the bathtub, I heard some noise and sound in my room. I called out to know who was there but I didn't get any response. I wasn't comfortable with the things I was hearing so I came out of the bathroom with all the water on my body.
As I opened the door, I felt a cold breeze hit me. It wasn't normal but I decided to believe nothing was wrong. I looked around and no one was there. So I went back into the bathroom.
Just as I stepped my foot in again, I slipped and fell. I fell so hard on the floor that I thought I had passed out because for a moment I couldn't feel any part of my body.
I also couldn't find my voice no matter how much I tried to call for help.
I struggled out of the ground but couldn't not walk out of the bathroom. I stayed there for almost twenty five minutes before Cherry walked in.
"Miriam, where are you? I have been waiting for you to get down for a long time now." She said as she opened the door.
I tried to raise my voice to tell her I was stuck in the bathroom but I couldn't. As her footsteps drew closer, I was just happy that the help I seek is here.
"Miriam, Miriam." She called out as she walked towards the door.
I had to use the little energy I had to hit the door so she would know I am in here.
She got the signal and opened the door. When she saw me lying on the floor naked she let out a loud scream.
I tried to use gestures to tell her to be calm but it didn't work. She was nervous already and really scared.
"You are bleeding Miriam." She stuttered and her hands were already shaking. She was clearly afraid.
"Just calm down and help me up." I told her and she tried to lift me. She helped me clean up and took me out of the bathroom.
As I laid on the bed, she raised both hands and placed them on her head.
"What do we do Miriam? What happened? How did you get to the floor?" She asked and as I looked at her face I saw tears rolling down her cheeks seamlessly.
"I slipped." Was all I was able to say.
"We need to get to the hospital immediately. She stated and headed to my wardrobe to get me some clothes to put on.
I didn't even have the energy to move so she literally dressed me up. While she was still at it, a knock came on the door.
"Who is it?" She asked with her shaky voice.
"It's Daniel. What is keeping you girls? It's almost an hour since you left to get Miriam." He said but Cherry did not respond.
"Cherry." He called out again.
"We are fine Daniel, we will join you soon." She finally said.
" Are you sure everything is fine there?" Daniel pressed on us and Cherry tried to keep things under control but her already shaking voice gave her out.
"If you are fine, why does it sound like you are crying?" He asked and the tears streamed down again.
I was in pain but I could not even cry.
"I'm not crying Daniel." She replied even though it was clear she was crying.
Daniel did not leave the door, he stood there but didn't come in.
When Cherry was done dressing me, she called out to him.
"Daniel, are you still there?" She asked as his response was swift.
" Please come in." She said, She was a bit calm now and she had wiped her face already.
Daniel rushed into the room and to the bed where I laid while Cherry stood to her feet as soon as he got to the bed.
"What happened to her?" He asked and she started crying again without saying a word . I was too weak to even speak.
"I said what the fuck is going on here?" He shouted.
"She slipped and fell on the bathtub." Cherry said as she continued crying.
Daniel carried me up immediately and asked Cherry to fetch the car keys while he rushed down the stairs.
"Calm down Daniel. It's no big deal, I will be fine." I told him weakly as we stood beside the car waiting for Cherry to come with the keys.
"I'm not going to be sure until we hear from the doctor." He said and Cherry arrived before he even finished making that statement.
"Please let me come with you." Cherry begged and I beckoned on Daniel to let her come.
She cried all through our drive to the hospital and I was beginning to get irritated.
"Can you just stop crying?" I said to her but it seems I ignited the fire more.
"That's the only way she can feel better. Just let her express herself." Daniel chipped in and I had to let her be.
Before we got to the hospital, she asked me a thousand times how I was feeling and I got tired of responding to her.
"Don't you think you are overreacting?" I asked her.
" No I'm not. It's all my fault and I am sorry." She said and I became really confused.
" What do you mean by it is your fault? You helped me up, you didn't push me down." I said so she could see that she is the reason I got the help I got in time.
"No Miriam. I made you go have your bath so we could go to the hospital." She responded and I started laughing.
"Either way, I would have still had my bath and would still fall anyway, so chill." I said to her with a very low tune and forced her to smile.
When we got to the hospital, Daniel raised an alarm that there was an emergency and the doctors and nurses rushed out immediately and carried me in.
Cherry did not leave my side. She held my hand all through the process and I was really glad I had her around.
After administering some treatments, I was induced and I slept off. While asleep, I saw myself in the blood moon pack walking aimlessly like someone who has lost her way.
The funny thing about the whole thing was that everyone greeted and treated me with so much honour and dignity but I was so confused because I didn't know where I was even going.
The few people I tried to ask for directions couldn't help me because I did not know where I was going.
Then Christopher's brother came along. I was happy to see him because it's been a long time already.
And perhaps I have finally found someone that will take me home.
"Please take me home. I am lost." I said to him after greeting him.
" I'm not going your way." He responded and walked away as fast as he could. I tried to run after him but I could not catch up with him so I stopped by the way.
At the spot I stopped, I saw Christopher. I didn't know why I did not speak to him but I didn't. Instead I started following him as he walked in front of me.
We got to a point and I was tired so I stopped to catch my breath but he didn't notice. He kept on moving while I sat on the ground to rest.
He turned back and saw that I had stopped and started running after me. Seeing him from afar, I stood up and took to my heels.
I was running and screaming at the same time and I started screaming physically.
I woke to everyone moving one thing or the other around me all trying to settle me.
"Wait a minute. What is wrong this time?" That was Ivy. She just walked in.
By the time they were done sticking everything they could into my body, I felt better and breathed down.
"It was a dream." I spoke softly.
"And it's going to be fine." Ivy assured me as she sat on the bed beside me.
" Where is Cherry?" I asked and she stood up to meet me.
Seeing her face just made me smile.
"She needs some food." The middle aged nurse announced and Daniel offered to go get some food for everyone.
After eating, I told Ivy all that happened and how Cherry saved me.
"What did the doctor say went wrong?" I asked but no one responded.
While I awaited their response, I prayed that they would tell me that the baby was out.
Cherry said she had bled the time she lost her babies so prayed the same happened to me.
I honestly didn't want this pregnancy.
I laid down to rest and Ivy started reading out a poem for me. It felt so good.
Thereafter, Daniel started singing for me and Ivy and Cherry joined him. I felt so much love.
While they were still singing, the doctor came in and asked my beta to come with him.
I became anxious about what he would tell him. Ivy and Cherry told me it was going to be no bad news. Cherry was already in tears again praying I don't lose the baby. I pretended I needed the prayer but I honestly needed the reverse.
Daniel walked in with a gloomy face. I was happy and waited for him to tell me what I wanted to hear.
"The baby is fine. But you will have to spend some more days here for proper attention." He announced and while Ivy and Cherry celebrated, my heart sank.
