Chapter: 148 No, actually, I did find one once
Brian was slightly taken aback and lowered his raised Dragon Claws.
The Serpent Dragon twisted its neck and said gruffly, "If you can promise me one thing, I can become your follower."
When it said this, there was even a hint of expectation on its usually ferocious face.
Reflected in Brian's platinum Dragon's Eyes was the expression of the Serpent Dragon, making him somewhat puzzled and curious. He said, "Tell me first."
The Serpent Dragon swung its long tail, unconsciously making a mess of the ground, and said anxiously, "I need to fulfill my duty of reproduction, but I've spent a long time and still haven't found any of my kind."
A Serpent Dragon will only reproduce once in its lifetime. Once their body is ready, it becomes an urgent matter, ingrained in their bloodline instincts.
But due to the dwindling numbers of Serpent Dragons, their reproduction has become increasingly difficult. They might travel thousands of miles without finding a single mate.
"No, actually, I did find one once, but it was the same gender as me. We fought, and then I never saw it again."
Its voice was harsh, rough, and raspy, like the grinding of metal or the wailing of evil spirits, very unpleasant to hear.
Just this kind of voice was enough to instill fear in many creatures.
But as Brian looked at the Serpent Dragon, he could hear a hint of sorrow in its words.
No matter how ferocious the Serpent Dragon was, it was still an intelligent creature. It was certainly more aware and understanding of its own species' situation than other creatures. Unless most Serpent Dragons could overcome their nature, their extinction was only a matter of time. They were already much rarer than True Dragons.
"I think you're very powerful. If you can promise to help me find a mate, I am willing to follow you."
The Serpent Dragon looked at Brian.
Helping it find another Serpent Dragon of the opposite sex... Brian honestly wasn't very confident.
Unlike True Dragons, Serpent Dragons, although they could also shapeshift after reaching adulthood, did not have an eye for beauty and would only seek their own kind as mates.
Brian pondered for a moment, and finally, under the Serpent Dragon's expectant yet fierce gaze, he slowly said, "I can't guarantee success."
"But I can promise you that as long as you become my subordinate, my followers will search for traces of Serpent Dragons for you."
"My followers' footprints will cover every inch of the world. If there are still female Serpent Dragons on Noah Continent, you will have a chance to find a mate and reproduce."
The Serpent Dragon paced in place, thinking hard for a rare ten seconds before stopping and lowering its ferocious head to Brian.
"From now on, I, Ulbis the Serpent Dragon of the Cold Forest, swear in the name of the Giant Serpent of the Dark Night to become your follower."
The Giant Serpent of the Dark Night, also known as the Devourer of the Sun, the Nightmare Serpent, the Whisper of the Night, is an ancient god whose name echoes across many planes, revered by the Serpent Dragon species.
"I will tear apart all your enemies for you! Make them kneel in the rubble, wailing and screaming your name! Smear their blood and corpses to outline your form!"
Brian: .............
That last part was really unnecessary.
Listening to the Serpent Dragon's fierce words, he was momentarily unsure if taking it as a subordinate was a good idea.
Brian summoned the Chiefs from different clans of his followers and, in front of the Serpent Dragon, issued the order to search for Serpent Dragons.
Even the strongest of Brian's followers, the Wolfheart Clan, felt a chill in their hearts when looking at the Serpent Dragon. Brian's former top subordinate, the Savage Frost Tiger, bristled all over like a big cat whose tail had been stepped on.
The Serpent Dragon licked its lips, its forked, bright red tongue flicking through the air, and then asked Brian, "Can I eat them? These Winter Wolves and this Savage Tiger smell delicious."
The Winter Wolves of the Wolfheart Clan couldn't understand Dragon language, but they saw the malice in the Serpent Dragon's eyes and growled lowly at it.
Brian's face turned serious, and he said sternly, "No."
The Serpent Dragon withdrew its gaze in disappointment.
After thinking for a moment, it asked Brian again, "Can I still seek revenge on those two True Dragons?"
Brian's face darkened, and he repeated in a deep voice, "No!"
