Chapter 30 Ambush
Brian flew high above, clutching an Ogre in his grasp. Even with his strength, he couldn't help but feel a bit fatigued after a while.
As for the Cold Wind in the high altitude, it didn't affect Tancred much. Living in the northern Ice Field, Tancred was only clad in simple, rough animal skins, having evolved a high resistance to the cold. However, he still shivered uncontrollably and dared not look down.
He seemed to have a fear of heights.
Any creature that couldn't fly, when taken to an altitude of a thousand feet, with the wind howling in their ears and their life hanging by a thread, would naturally be terrified.
If Brian were to slip and let go of Tancred, Tancred would undoubtedly plummet to the ground, turning into an unrecognizable, bloody pulp.
Taking troublesome prey that couldn't fly to high altitudes and dropping them to their death was a common tactic among dragons. True Dragons could easily lift creatures of similar or even greater weight than themselves.
If Brian hadn't intended to subdue the Ogre Tribe, he wouldn't need to fight head-on. By simply dropping things from high altitudes, he could make the Ogres suffer greatly.
After some time, Brian brought Tancred to the Ice Layer of the Ice Lake.
The Ogre's legs were weak, and he staggered a few steps whose mind still in a daze, as if he hadn't yet come down from the high altitude.
A few minutes later, he finally regained his composure.
Brian, seeing that the Ice Layer was thick enough to support the Ogre's weight, showed a satisfied expression. This made the location even more suitable for an ambush, at least enough to lure the target here.
When Tancred's mind cleared up, Brian pointed to the Ice Layer beneath his feet and said, "Bring William here, and your task will be complete."
As for how to deal with William, Brian didn't elaborate.
Tancred looked at the vast expanse of the Ice Layer and nodded, saying, "I know this place. It will take four hours to travel to and from the Bonecrusher Tribe at my pace."
After a pause, he looked at Brian and asked, "Lord True Dragon, do you plan to deal with Chief William immediately? Should I depart now?"
His voice was full of eagerness. He was almost desperate to replace William as Chief.
Brian's gaze remained calm, his emotions unreadable, as he nodded slightly and said, "Stop wasting time and get moving."
After saying this, Brian remembered the two weapons William had brought out of his house and added, "When you bring him here, try to make sure he doesn't bring his weapons."
Brian was always efficient. Having decided to eliminate the threat that William posed, he intended to execute the plan immediately. The longer he waited, the more likely unexpected variables would arise.
Tancred nodded enthusiastically, saying, "Yes, great True Dragon! I will not disappoint you!"
Brian waved his Dragon Claws, signaling Tancred to start the mission. Tancred didn't hesitate, turning and quickly disappearing into the vast night.
Brian's sturdy dragon foot stomped heavily on the Ice Layer, causing spiderweb-like cracks to spread out. The Ice Layer shattered along the cracks, revealing the serene water below.
He took a deep breath, as he moved his body, pushing aside the floating ice and diving into the lake.
The bone-chilling coldness, capable of freezing a person to death in seconds, had no adverse effect on Brian. Instead, he felt comfortably cool, invigorating his spirit.
He exhaled Frost Breath, sealing the ice surface again as his figure disappeared beneath the Ice Layer.
The surface above returned to its previous desolate stillness.
The White Dragon's scales were similar in color to ice and snow, which didn't create any ripple or reflection as Brian swam under the Ice Layer and silently parted the water, making him the most terrifying and powerful hunter in the northern Ice Field.
Under the ambush of a White Dragon, few prey could survive, especially when facing Brian who also possessed the power of a Time Dragon.
William would be no exception.
Somewhere beneath the ice, Brian waited patiently.
If any creature stepped onto the ice, even if he couldn't see them, he could instantly determine their position, number, and approximate weight through subtle vibrations.
The year and more of hunting under the protection of White Dragon Mother had not been wasted. As a competent White Dragon hunter, Brian had long mastered these skills.
...
Tancred left the Ice Lake area, swiftly heading towards the Depressed Basin where the Bonecrusher Tribe resided.
On the way, he killed a robust white tiger, using him as the prey for his adulthood ceremony. The white tiger was just a large ordinary beast, which was far inferior to the prey William had once captured, but Tancred couldn't afford to be picky.
Carrying the prey in excitement, he returned to the Bonecrusher Tribe with long strides.
Sharp-eyed Ogres saw Tancred and immediately called out, drawing a crowd of Ogres from the ground and houses to watch Tancred and his prey.
The nearly twelve-foot-long Ferocious White Tiger, with his muscular build and sharp claws, garnered much praise from the Ogres.
"Tancred, you are now a qualified adult Ogre."
"The Sun God will be proud of you and always look upon you favorably."
...
After some praise, the Ogres unceremoniously dragged Tancred's prey away, skinning it, cutting it into pieces, and throwing it into a large iron pot. Tancred didn't react to this.
The prey from an Ogre's adulthood ceremony was meant to be shared with the adult Ogres in the tribe, symbolizing that the individual had become a part of the adult Ogres, no longer a weakling needing protection.
As the white tiger was dragged away, Tancred hurried towards William Chief's luxurious stone house covered in animal skins.
His steps were quick as if he had urgent business. He didn't even knock, barging directly into the stone house.
He shouted, "Chief William, I found traces of a human Mage."
As soon as he entered, seeing William's displeased expression ready to scold him, he quickly spoke words that made William's face light up.
William stepped forward, his two heads and four eyes staring at Tancred, his towering figure exuding immense pressure. "Are you sure?"
His main head looked particularly excited, while the smaller head seemed indifferent, drooling as if thinking of something delicious.
Tancred nodded frantically, saying, "I'm sure."
William calmed down a bit, and the main head asked, "How strong is this human Mage?"
Tancred thought for a moment and said urgently, "Stronger than me, but definitely no match for you. I found the human Mage to the east. He was fighting a swift-wind leopard at the time and didn't notice me. Also, although the human Mage defeated the swift wind leopard, he was injured and won't be able to run far."
Hearing Tancred's words, William's main head glared and cursed, "Then what are you standing around for, you idiot? Lead the way!"
