Chapter: 152 The Priest and the Paladin
The massive dragon's body blocked out the sky, and the shadow under its Dragon Wings covered everyone in front of it.
However, when the priest saw the dragon's face clearly, he felt a sense of relief amidst his tension.
The priest bowed his head and saluted the silver dragon before him, saying, "Honorable Silver Dragon, we apologize for disturbing your rest and hope you can forgive our unintentional intrusion."
The Paladins exchanged glances and lowered their weapons, though their fingers still pressed on the hilts, saying, "We mean no offense, please forgive us."
They had mistaken Brian for a silver dragon.
Due to the silver dragon's positive reputation in human society, they felt much more at ease upon seeing Brian's appearance.
Brian looked at the humans, his eyes thoughtful and silent.
The priest in a white robe with an aged face, the tall Paladins in full armor... all of them had tired expressions, their clothes full of wrinkles and some tears, as if they had been through many battles without proper rest.
But despite the fatigue on their faces, their eyes still shone with a determined, unwavering light.
This kind of gaze belonged to beings with firm beliefs.
"Where do you come from?"
Brian spoke in the Common Language, retracting his Dragon's Might.
"Sir Silver Dragon, we are devout followers of the God of Light, hailing from the Bright Holy See," replied the elderly priest, his face lined with wrinkles, appearing to be in his sixties.
Brian nodded, not intending to make things difficult for them, but rather curious, "Followers of the God of Light, why have you come to this desolate and dangerous mountain range?"
To him, it seemed odd that these people were not in densely populated areas spreading the faith and teachings of their deity, but instead had ventured into such a remote wilderness.
The people from the Bright Holy See, eager to alert everyone to the impending crisis, responded without hesitation, "We are tracking the whereabouts of an evil artifact."
"Five months ago, the Pope received a revelation from the deity."
"The great God of Light, in His mercy and compassion, performed a miracle to remind the world of the darkness hidden beneath the light..."
"The God said that darkness is stirring, ready to engulf Earth, and all that is good, bright, and just will cease to exist."
Brian: ............
This guy keeps talking but never gets to the point.
They always have to express their profound reverence for the deity, as if they feel uncomfortable if they don't, and they love to say meaningless, chant-like words.
Dealing with such believers can easily make one impatient.
"So, according to you, if this evil artifact isn't found, the world will be destroyed."
"What kind of evil artifact is so powerful?"
Brian was skeptical of their words.
Followers of deities often exaggerate to spread their faith, whether in his previous world or here, it's the same.
Always talking about the end of the world, darkness descending, floods destroying everything... If every time it were true, this world would be in terrible shape.
When Brian asked, the priest's face turned solemn, and he said gravely, "A black sun."
A black sun?
Brian was slightly taken aback.
The black sun you're talking about, does it have tentacles and eyes?
"It resembles the sun but is covered in tentacles and eyeballs, filled with an aura of ominousness and evil. It's a statue of a terrifying Evil God."
"If not properly dealt with, the Evil God will descend through it, bringing boundless darkness to this world."
Brian: .............
A black sun, an Evil God statue, tentacles and eyeballs, an aura of ominousness and evil—these elements together immediately reminded him of the Evil God statue he found in the Ogre Tribe.
If there were no surprises, these priests and Paladins from the Bright Holy See were looking for his black Sun Sculpture.
The black Sun Sculpture, though eerie and evil, was not an ordinary item and held significant value in Brian's mind.
He liked to collect unusual items, and the black Sun Sculpture was one of them.
Hmm... this thing is still safely tucked away in the glacier crevice; could it really cause the world's destruction?
Should he hand it over to the Bright Holy See?
Brian's mind raced, and he remained silent.
The Bright Holy See's words were full of exaggeration; perhaps they believed it deeply, but that didn't make it true.
An Evil God?
To interfere with the Prime Material Plane, at most, it could descend as an avatar.
An avatar trying to destroy a world is not an easy task, unless other deities stand by and do nothing, and the legendary beings of this world are few and weak.
After a deity descends to the Prime Material Plane, they are no longer the immortal "gods" they once were. Moreover, unless they are immensely powerful, even an Evil God requires faith.
