Chapter 71 Accelerated Spells
Constructing spell models was the first step in spellcasting, and it was also the most challenging one.
This process required the spellcaster to use powerful mental strength to meticulously inscribe a flawless model in their consciousness, imagining every detail, from the shapes of the runes to their order and the turns of the lines.
With an average person's mental strength, it was only sufficient to inscribe simple geometric shapes in their consciousness if untrained.
Inscribing all the details of a burning fireball was far from a simple task.
Brian's mental strength was adequate, he was constructing spell models for the first time. Due to his lack of experience, he failed twice, spending over an hour on the task.
On his third attempt, he finally breathed a long sigh of relief as his tense mind relaxed.
A vivid fireball, composed of over three hundred runes arranged in a special pattern, floated life-like in Brian's consciousness.
"It's done."
Brian's face lit up with joy as he extended his claws.
He recited the incantation for the Fireball spell, infusing the spell model with his magic power. In the next instant, a fireball no larger than a pea appeared at Brian's fingertip, a mere speck of light compared to his massive form.
The third-level Fireball spell looked utterly harmless.
Who would think that such a tiny, pea-sized fireball could be among the most powerful of all lower-tier spells?
"Go!"
With a thought, Brian flicked his finger, sending the small fireball streaking through the air to strike the ice crystal wall.
Waves of heat surged as flames flared up, covering a radius of about ten feet, creating a small sea of fire with impressive intensity.
"Spells cast by me are indeed more powerful than those cast from scrolls."
Brian extended his claws, roasting them in the flames.
A wave of heat washed over him, but the brief contact was not enough to cause Brian any pain.
His physique, dominated by the Time Dragon lineage, possessed high resistance to various elemental damages, unlike a regular White Dragon that would suffer double damage from fire attacks.
Even after leaving his claws in the flames for a while, Brian only felt a faint, almost imperceptible sting—something he might not have noticed without focusing on it.
This most powerful Fireball spell could cause limited harm to him.
And he was only just over two years old.
Even Brian was unsure of the full extent of his magical immunity.
A dragon's magical immunity improved with age; an ancient dragon can become almost immune to most mid-level spells.
Brian speculated that by the time he reached adulthood, only legendary spells might affect him, and even high-level spells might be powerless against him.
After warming his hands, Brian sprayed Frost Breath, twisting his neck to freeze the surrounding flames.
Flames frozen within irregular ice crystals looked like works of art.
Brian did not remain in the Ice Cliff Dragon's Lair. Instead, he flew out, seeking a spacious and flat area within his territory to practice and test the power of his spells.
After all, the lair was primarily a place for rest.
Brian now held a crimson staff, pondering thoughtfully.
Dragons also used magical tools to enhance themselves. Although this staff was small for him, its effect remained potent.
Holding it as if it were a toothpick, Brian cast another fireball spell, his gaze focused and calm.
The staff glowed with fiery elemental light, absorbing ambient energy to augment Brian's magic power.
At last, a fireball shot from the staff's tip, striking the ground a hundred feet away.
Flames engulfed a fifty-foot radius as the fireball spell's power increased by about fifty percent, melting large patches of snow and revealing the brown frozen ground beneath.
"This power equals a fourth-level spell, perhaps even stronger."
The two-headed ogre's imitation of Dragon's Breath was not nearly as potent.
Handling the small staff, Brian was slightly moved.
The Fireball spell, when cast through the crimson staff, had significant improvements in both its range and the intensity of its flames, making it powerful enough to cause him some harm.
And in the old Mage's notes, the third-level Fireball spell was among the lowest tier.
Exploding fireballs of the fourth level, magma fireballs of the fifth level, blazing fireballs of the sixth level... if enhanced by the crimson staff, their potential power made Brian quite excited about the future.
Time Acceleration and Time Stop lacked direct lethality—what Brian needed now were such powerful offensive techniques.
As he pondered, a question arose in Brian's mind.
Could the Time Acceleration effect apply to spells?
Most spells already had quick attack speeds, making them hard to dodge. But if they could be sped up fivefold...
Excited, Brian began to try.
Simultaneously casting the Fireball spell and consuming Time Power, he tried extending the acceleration effect.
His initial attempts mostly ended in failure.
The beginning was always the hardest part.
But slowly, the Time Power aligned with Brian's intent, imbuing his Fireball spell with acceleration.
A fireball exceeding the speed of sound hit, erupting in flames, its roar trailing behind.
Both joy and disappointment filled Brian's heart.
Joy, because Time Acceleration could indeed apply to spells.
Disappointment, because its effect on spells was far weaker than on himself and consumed more energy.
Using fivefold acceleration, the fireball's speed increased only slightly more than double.
Given more time, Brian expected improvement, feeling confident even if only achieving half the intended effect.
His Acceleration State wasn't unchanged. His power would grow with age.
For now, Brian's routine fell into a simple cycle.
Studying spells, exploring ways to merge Time Power with spells, resting in the highly energetic Dragon's Lair...
It was monotonous, yet he found fulfillment in it.
