Chapter 39 Time Mark
However, Arcane Mark could be dispelled by certain magic. Brian modified it slightly.
When casting Arcane Mark, he infused a trace of temporal power. Just a tiny bit, what was equivalent to the temporal power Brian gained from a single breath.
But this was enough to achieve the desired effect.
Unless the opponent also mastered temporal power and could perceive the River of Time, the mark couldn't be dispelled.
Additionally, due to Brian's sensitivity to temporal power and the immense power of the River of Time encompassing all planes, he could vaguely sense the mark's location even across different planes. The more temporal power-infused, the clearer the perception.
After mastering the apprentice-level cantrips, Brian turned his attention to [Summary of Enchantment and Transmutation Magic].
This book contained over twenty magic models.
As the title suggested, these models belonged to the enchantment and transmutation schools.
Brian rubbed the matte scales on his chin, thinking, ‘Hand of the Dragon used a lot of basic transmutation runes, making it a transmutation spell. William's mimicry of Dragon's Breath was also transmutation, while the summoned Thunderstorm clouds were enchantment.’
From the [Principles of Spellcasting], Brian learned that magic was divided into eight academic schools. Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Evocation, Illusion, Necromancy, and Transmutation.
Each school had unique effects and functions with a set of basic runes and incantations distinct from other schools.
These eight schools' basic runes and incantations were like eight profound languages, each leading to the essence of the world.
This meant that ordinary spellcasters who spent their entire lives, would choose one school to master as it required a lifetime of study. Even immortals needed long ages to thoroughly understand one school, let alone short-lived beings.
The higher the spellcaster's rank, the more singular their path.
Only extraordinarily gifted individuals who were favored by the elements dared to study multiple schools.
Brian, with his innate elemental affinity and a desire to understand all knowledge and truths, wouldn't limit himself to one school or even just magic. However, his current resources were limited.
He thought, ‘Most are one to three-ring spells, with only a few four and Fifth Circle Magic spells. Fourth Circle Transmutation spells include Dragon's Breath Mimicry and Enlargement Spell. Fourth Circle Enchantment spells include Flame Orb and Cold Orb. The only Fifth Circle Magic is the enchantment spell Thunderstorm.’
With his photographic memory, he had memorized the contents of [Summary of Enchantment and Transmutation Magic] that no need to open the book to recall them.
‘William, excluding his physique and divine magic, is a mid-level mage as a spellcaster,’ Brian recalled William's magical abilities during their battle.
One to three-ring spells were considered lower-tier magic. A mage mastering up to Third Circle Magic was a lower-tier spellcaster or mage on Noah Continent.
By extension, four to six-ring spells were mid-tier, and seven to nine-ring spells were high-tier.
The gap between each magic ring widened significantly at higher levels.
Above high-tier were legendary mages who mastered at least Ninth Circle Magic.
Ninth Circle Magic, though powerful, mostly didn't qualify as Legendary Magic. Only a few Ninth Circle Magic spells were considered legendary. Ninety percent of Legendary Magic was above ten rings.
Even Brian, combined with the White Dragon Mother, likely couldn't defeat a legendary spellcaster. Such beings were rare encounters.
Brian's focus only briefly touched on Dragon's Breath Mimicry.
The fourth-circle transmutation spell Enlargement Spell intrigued him more.
He stretched his Dragon Wings, admiring his reflection in the mirror-like scales, pleased with his appearance but dissatisfied with his current size.
‘Enlargement Spell should temporarily make me bigger.’ Brian thought of the colossal dragon in the River of Time, longing to achieve such a mountainous size.
Taking a deep breath to calm himself, he turned his attention to the frozen Sun Sculpture.
He planned to deal with this strange object Before delving into formal magic.
While learning 0th-level cantrips, Brian thought about how to handle the Sun Sculpture, feeling indecisive.
This sculpture from an Evil God possessed eerie power, which even tempted Brian. But this allure indicated it was a valuable artifact, albeit with evil power.
The black mist's rapid healing ability intrigued Brian. His curiosity and desire for knowledge made him want to study it, despite knowing its evil nature.
Dragons had good regenerative abilities, healing most injuries with sleep. However, rapid regeneration during combat was currently beyond his reach.
Brian coveted this power but caution about the Sun Sculpture made him suspect it was a trap, luring beings with its power.
Studying the Sun Sculpture would inevitably expose him to its influence.
He didn't want to unknowingly become an Evil God follower. After careful consideration, he decided to destroy it. Seeking temporary power from an Evil God and risking downfall wasn't worth it.
"Tancred, come here!" Brian called in Giant Language, his voice rolling like thunder.
Soon, accompanied by heavy footsteps, Tancred appeared in Brian's view.
"Master, what can I do for you?" Tancred respectfully asked Brian after bowing.
Brian pointed a Dragon Claw at the Sun Sculpture, his voice calm. "Take this sculpture outside and smash it." He didn't want to touch it himself, not even with Hand of the Dragon, in case this sculpture of the Evil God had some eerie ability that could indirectly affect him.
Tancred hesitated, seemingly wanting to ask why, but he remained silent under Brian's calm gaze. He replied, "As you command, great master."
