Chapter 51

A moment of silence when Gunner and Ross look at the virtual monitors. They couldn't understand every piece of data that showed on every screen which kept on scrolling and scrolling. They look into each other and create a facial expression which makes them burst into a laugh. Ross pats his shoulder and shakes his head.

'Can we handle this?" Ross asked and Gunner slowly nodded even though he saw a slight chance upon looking at the monitors.

'We must and I have gone this far not to try and just be careful because one wrong move might affect them like what we did earlier," he replied, which made Ross smile and nod.

'I'll go there and might be a help also by looking for some information that we might need," he said, walking past him.

Gunner closes his eyes and calms himself and is not distracted by what he is thinking of what had happened earlier. He must not be distracted and he prays that he and Ross will not make any mistakes. He looked at Ross, who was also looking at the monitors and also at the papers in front of him. What he sees in his eyes is determination and he can't help but to smile at the thought that he, Slasher and Ross will be leaving this kind of place and also to save others.

Gunner taps the virtual keyboard on the glass table and somehow he knows what to do. He had encountered one like this before from a friend of Slasher who has been a fan of technology since we were residing in Japan.

As he keeps on searching and clicking, he taps the section bar of the camera. There were, of course, cameras in every corner of the building and he was definitely sure that one of those recordings showed him and Ross. And then he learns that he can control the cameras and can freely see what is going on down there. Gunner couldn't have been more amazed at technology as time passed by.

He wants to see Slasher again and he types his name in the camera bar and then Slasher shows up. He was far different from what he was before. He looked skinny and pale. He can't be known from first sight if someone sees him, but unlike him, he can immediately that it's him.

'Ross?" he suddenly called him, which Ross immediately replied.

Gunner forgets to ask him why he forgets their purpose to Dr. Vega. Maybe it was too late to ask and he didn't know what those were for from the start and now that he had Ross with might ask him for a moment.

'Yes, have you found anything?" he asked as he faced him and he shook his head.

'I just want to ask about these. Why does Dr. Vega build this? I mean what those are for?" he asked, which made Ross' eyes frightened and saddened at the same time.

'I was already here when this building was built and had witnessed all of the horrifices that a person can't handle. This building we are stepping on is full of dead people in the face, it is already a grave of dead people. And maybe that is why, if you can feel that something is weird, then maybe those are the souls that don't want to be silenced and find justice in their life. Dr. Vega built this because he wanted to start a war. He wants to take over Japan and other countries. That was his goal, and according to what he said, it was also a goal of his father, who died later, and now he wants to take over. Initially, it was just how many subjects he was experimenting on, but as time passed, one by one of his subjects died. He treated them like animals, as if it didn't matter if they died," Ross stated, which makes Gunner cringe at that thought and look at the cameras where he could see his twin brother.

Slasher, had been so strong enough to hold on, then he managed himself unlike the others down there. Gunner couldn't help but to be proud of him and he shouldn't let that waste out and he would do everything that would save him, even if it took putting his life on the line.

'This is called Project Wilson. This project is in the name of war. Dr. Vega wants peace. He believes that he can only get it by declaring a war, a physical war and only a victory would bring him final peace. And also that is him and Dr. Brace, who is your father. They both travelled to Arizona to test the astral soldiers. He called them astral because he was using their souls. Hard to imagine, right? But he makes impossible things possible. Those monitors that every person could see would hypnotize them and they would be dominated by it. Even their minds are corrupted. That is why they can't fight it. Once you look at the screen you will begin to have hallucinations, pain, nausea, throbbing of pain especially in your head like someone is hammering you, your eyes are starting to get sore, getting dizzy and maybe everything that you could name it that hypnotic thing has it," he added, which makes Gunner hard to imagine how did Dr. Vega built all of them.

And it hit him. Maybe he had a feeling of all of those activities because he once looked at the television which was inside of Slasher's room. It was just an accident that he had turned it on and he had looked at it and the rest he didn't know. The last thing he had known was he was already in bed asleep. And then his head started throbbing and feeling he had to puke or something that kept swirling in his stomach that was about to come out and he hadn't eaten anything, which made it hard for him. And now that he had been well enough he just prayed that he was not hallucinating things.

'Hallucinations?" he asked, which caused Ross to look at him and, like he had read his mind of him, worried about his situation.

'Don't worry, you are okay," Ross said, which made Gunner feel relieved somehow.

Ross tells him what Project Wilson is all about while they are searching for any clues that would shut down the machine.

As Ross was explaining, Gunner suddenly thought of his email. He took his phone out and quickly looked at the signal and his heart beat quickened as the bar of the signal on his phone was full. His hands were shaky as he held his phone. He couldn't believe it, he had a signal.

'Signal," he uttered under his breath and couldn't hear Ross was saying because he was occupied already with his phone. His internet connection was restored and he had so many messages and emails popping up and he was thankful enough that his battery was fully charged.

Gunner was having a rattle when holding his phone on where he had to go first. He closes his eyes for a moment and calms himself how he hates himself for being such a klutz. He ignores the messages that keep on popping out, but as to what he reads from his peripheral vision, some are asking where the hell he is.

He quickly tapped his Zmail app and there were numerous emails and updates welcoming him. He quickly tapped the compose bar and attached the file that he had composed as one so he could send it quickly. He types the name of where he would send it and he thanks himself for not forgetting such an important thing. It was a glimpse of the email because he had seen it on the table of his Slasher.

And then tap the send button and he was having a hard time sending it because of how big the file was. Then he noticed that he was losing an internet connection, which alarmed him. He walked to where Ross was and Ross couldn't help but to look at him questioningly that he wanted to ask what he was doing, but he decided not to. He didn't want to distract him.

Gunner cursed under his breath and he tiptoed to his feet searching for connection and his eyes lit up when the message was already gone in the outbox area, meaning the email was already sent and he was about to tell the good news to Ross when suddenly he gripped his arm and pulled him out to the corner where it is dark. Gunner couldn't help but to look at him and was about to open his mouth when Ross hushed him and his forehead creased. He took a step back to see what was going on down there because it was where Ross was looking.

When he was about to look down, he didn't see the metal box out of his way, causing him to trip and his phone from his hand slowly fell down. And it was like time had stopped and his mouth hung open knowingly that it would create a sound down there, but he hadn't heard of anything. He wanted to curse about how clumsy he was but he stopped himself from doing it and he was just thankful that he had already emailed the file to the US government and all he had to do was to pray that they would see the message.

They were in the dark corner and surely no one would see them and he knew that because from the very first time he thought nothing was above.

Since the floor was made of glass, he could see freely down there and what he had seen was a shiny thing which made him gasp because it was his phone. And the last thing that he saw was a man dressed in a black leather coat that ends in his knees and a black panama hat. That is all he can see up there. And then it hit him. It was Dr. Vega, he is already here.

'Dr. Vega," he whispered under his breath as he looked at Ross who silently nods his head at him and told him in a gesture to be quiet.

His phone fell in a dam of water and he didn't know that it existed there, since he couldn't see it from below. He speculated that the dam of water was maybe just three feet below and he could easily get it when it was time for them to go down. Gunner looked at Dr. Vega, who is somehow murmuring or, what he can't see, if he was talking to somebody or it was just his self, besides, he sees him as a crazy lunatic person and he wouldn't be surprised if he is so.

Gunner was just looking at Dr. Vega and suddenly a man in a white coat appeared and his heart beat quickened at the first sight that he had seen his face. He couldn't believe that he would see him now. He was well prepared to see him after what he had heard from Ross but if it is already in front of you, you will seem to forget how prepared you are. Ross was right he had changed a lot but Gunner was sure that it is his father. He was just young back then but he could still remember every edges of the face of his father no matter how he had changed.

The only thing that changed in his father's appearance as he looks at him is his eyes.

There are no emotions and only coldness. His focus is only in Dr. Vega as he listened to him talked and it looks like serious that he wants to know what. He looked at Ross who seemed to be frightened at the sight of Dr. Vega. Ross slowly looks at him and smiled that didn't even quite reach his eyes.

It was a couple of minutes until the two of them gets out of the room and they waited for an at least a couple of minutes also to ensure that the two are not coming back. It is better to make sure.

'They're here, Gunner."
