Chapter 69
'Gentlemen, if you may please leave the two of us here for a couple of minutes. Just wait outside and I'll call when it's time," he said, and all of them left without a word.
'Yes, Mr. President," Joemar answered, as he was the last person who left the room, but he gave one last look to General Arthur and a sly smile was written on his lips which made his blood boil.
'Did you see that?" he mumbled as he pointed to Joemar, who had just left the room.
He coughed as he inhaled the smoke coming from his cigar, "How do you sleep so peacefully at night?" he stated as he puffed a smoke, which made Arthur cough again.
Even though it was embarrassing for him because he was a man, he couldn't take it any much longer. A tear escaped from his eyes. It was painful because it was real.
"Mr. President," he called as he sniffed as tears were streaming down his cheeks. "I just did that thing because I was scared... I was a coward and if I refused him he would do harm to my family. We were friends back then and he has done me a favor since then and I was just giving back the favor to him because he said he needed help, not knowing that it was such a big thing, but then I just found myself giving him what he wanted and that didn't stop there. He had given me enormous money that I couldn't even refuse. For a long time, it was my dream to give my family a comfort zone and to be free of such debts and that is why I worked for him," he stated, which made the President laugh for a second.
"That was a dumb reason to give me, General. I know money is the most important thing in this world and also the most dangerous thing. Money does not change people, it unmasks them, just like you. All the money that you made will never buy back your soul, General," he said as he watched him cry in such a wasted situation. He couldn't believe that the General was crying and also had a conscience too, but he doubted whether it was true or it was all a show.
Arthur knows what the President is thinking about him and is still in doubt if he was telling him the truth, but he knows that he deserves it all. He had made it for himself.
"The money you have gives you freedom; the money you pursue enslaves you, General, and look where you are at now. What would your family say if they knew this? Even though we don't announce it, these rumors spread like fire. What would they feel about you? Would they feel just okay about it because you were just only thinking about them? Or would they be disappointed because of what you have done? But because they are yours. So I will just expect the unexpected. What did Dr. Vega told you to make you do these things, huh, General? Tell me everything now before it is too late," he commented as he placed his cigar on the ash tray and took a stand from his seat and took a glass of wine.
The room where they were the lobby where the officials do their meetings and that is why there are liquors and cigars.
Arthur took a deep breath and looked at the President while sipping his wine. "He was different and shouldn't be underestimated as an enemy because he could do impossible things to possible. I remember him telling me that human beings are nothing but a medium of the general process of carrying out life. They do want to live in peace, but want to win it over by war, because ultimately, victory is what brings them peace. And b that he declares war anytime soon and he noises a signal by killing people in Arizona that time. He was just testing his experimented soldiers and that is also the time that I feared of my family, but he had told me that my family would be safe," he said in a low tone of voice as he recalled what Dr. Vega had told him that night as he sent him the data that he was ordering him.
"And you believe him?" he snarled and also not believing that the person who is in front of him is no there than the General but what he was witnessing was a coward person.
He nodded to his question that even though he knows that he looked at him as a fool. He was in a total surrender because he was caught off guard anymore but nothing had changed because he still wants to get even to that nerd kid, Joemar. He knows that one day he will soon face his consequences, but a kid like him is not the one who will lead him to poisonous hell. He couldn't just accept that a kid like him would defeat him in such an expected way.
"Look at where I am now if I didn't believe in him. I was astounded by the money and I admit that. I was just thinking about the future of my daughter and my wife. I was just thinking about what will be good for them and I didn't wish for this, Mr. President," he said and the President shakes his head as he places the wine glass at the edge of the glass table.
"You have told me that again and again, which makes me dizzy now and I do not accept such a thing. You are a selfish human being and you just care about your family. There are a lot of innocent young people who have died and the money you have gotten from him was a blood money. Any minute from now you wife will be here, General, so prepare yourself for a talk."
