Chapter 212

At this moment, I didn't have time to think too much, so I just answered the phone. As soon as I picked up the phone, a feeling flashed through my mind - it was like a kidnapping ransom. In movies, after a child is kidnapped, the parents receive a ransom call from the kidnappers. My phone was new, and I didn't have many friends in this city. Who could know my number and call me? It all seemed too coincidental.

"Excuse me, is this Mr. Kevin Smith?" After answering the phone, a very strong and deep male voice came from the other end.

"Yes, who is this?" At that moment, I hadn't yet recovered from the fear of Simon's disappearance. I tried to stay calm and not lose my composure. I had nothing left now. I didn't know why the other person kidnapped my son, but if they didn't make a mistake, they must have some ulterior motive for me.

"Don't worry about who I am. If you want to see your son, come home first. We'll be waiting for you at your place." After saying this, the person hung up. I called a taxi and rushed home.

In the car, I urged the taxi driver to speed up. Soon, I arrived home. As I frantically searched for my keys to open the door, I noticed that the door was slightly ajar. Strange, I remembered locking the door when I left. I picked up a broken umbrella by the doorway - it was the only makeshift weapon I had.

I slowly opened the door and quietly entered the room. It was very quiet inside. When I reached the living room, I saw two men in black suits, wearing sunglasses, looking like mobsters from a movie. One of them stood up as I entered the room. I pointed the umbrella at him, feeling another wave of fear but also a sense of determination for my child.

"Where is my son? Give him back to me." I faced the approaching man in black, holding the umbrella towards him. He didn't respond, just kept coming towards me. It seemed like they were going to kidnap me too. Thinking of Simon, I felt a sense of despair. I didn't know where I found the courage, but I raised the umbrella and swiftly aimed it at the man in black.

Although I felt a sense of despair, as the tip of the umbrella was about to pierce the man's chest, I couldn't bear to watch the gruesome scene. I closed my eyes, but suddenly felt dizzy and then a sharp pain all over my body, as if falling apart. I found myself lying on the ground, groaning in pain. When I opened my eyes, the man in black was looking down at me. The umbrella, my only weapon, was now in his hands.

"Mr. Smith, you were too impulsive. We were just here to pick you up, no need to get angry." The man in black spoke mechanically, without any extra words.

"Do you need our help, Mr. Smith? I advise you to cooperate. We are just following orders. If you force us, you will only bring trouble upon yourself." The man's tone turned colder as he spoke. It was clear they were just subordinates. Whose orders were they following? I didn't think too much and started packing my things as instructed, feeling threatened by the man turning the umbrella into a rope.

After packing up, I followed the two men downstairs without being held captive. I had no choice - Simon was with them, so I had to comply. We got into a regular car and drove off to an unknown destination. The two men remained silent throughout the journey, and I had to follow their instructions for Simon's safety. Soon, we arrived at Lindwood City Airport. Were they planning to take me somewhere else?

"Are we taking a plane? What are you planning to do?" I was getting more confused. Why take a plane just to see Simon, who had been missing for less than an hour?

"Just come with us. You'll see your son soon." One of the men replied.

As we passed through security, the driver showed a document, but I couldn't see what it was from the back seat. The airport security let us through. My suspicions grew heavier - the airport's security was strict, and ordinary people couldn't just drive in. The fact that the men had proper documentation indicated their legitimacy. I felt a bit relieved.

We parked next to a distinctive private jet. It was a Sky Serenity G550, a luxurious private jet favored by top billionaires. I was amazed by the extravagance. Why would someone use such a jet for this operation?

As we got out of the car, two men were waiting by the jet's stairs. One of them took my luggage, and the other led me up the stairs. Stepping into the $53.5 million private jet, I felt surreal. I had only seen such jets on TV. I was curious about what was going to happen next.

Inside the jet, my luggage was stored, and I was led to a lounge. I was too preoccupied with Simon's safety to appreciate the luxury of the jet. When I entered the lounge, I saw Simon sitting comfortably, watching cartoons on a large screen. He seemed unharmed and happy.

"Dad, you're here." I rushed to Simon, leaving the men behind. Simon jumped into my arms, and I knelt down to check him. He hadn't cried and seemed fine.

"Mr. Smith, please come with us. Let Simon watch TV here. Someone wants to talk to you privately." The man who was in front of me before now stood behind me and gently informed me. He seemed concerned about not scaring the child. I glanced at the closed-off jet, feeling unsure of my safety. For Simon's sake, I nodded.

After a few words with Simon, I followed the men to the back of the lounge. I kept looking back at Simon, worried about what was to come. Finally, Simon disappeared from my sight, and I was taken to another room.

The men left me in the room and closed the door. It looked like a meeting room or an office. In front of me was a large desk, and behind it sat a figure - a woman in white, with long hair. Who was she? Why did she seem so familiar?

The room fell silent. The woman behind the desk didn't move. I stood there awkwardly, waiting. After a minute or so, the chair slowly began to turn. As it completed the turn, I finally saw her face. How could it be her?

"Mr. Smith, didn't expect us to meet so soon." Mia turned to me and spoke directly. Her face was cold and elegant, with a hint of power in her eyes. She was captivating, making it hard to meet her gaze.

I should have known it was her. Only she had the ability to find me after all the precautions I had taken. Among all the people I knew, only Mia, the heiress with military connections, could have tracked me down.

"It wasn't easy to find you. I had to use most of my resources and even manipulate military intelligence to locate you quickly. Shouldn't you feel honored?" Before I could react, Mia, with her regal and domineering presence, questioned me.

Realizing it was her meant Simon was safe. I felt a wave of relief and exhaustion. I collapsed on the floor, drained from the tension and fear. As I lay there, Mia approached me, her expression showing a hint of anger.

I wanted to laugh. It was then that I noticed Mia's softer side as a young woman, despite her intimidating demeanor.
