Chapter 286

After locking eyes with Katniss, we both turned to look at Simon, who was eating. We exchanged another glance, seeing tenderness and unconditional love for Simon in each other's eyes. We shared a wordless smile before starting to eat. During the meal, Katniss served food to Simon and also to me, creating a harmonious atmosphere.

After dinner, Simon and I sat on the couch watching TV. For me, watching TV had become a luxury due to my busy work schedule. After eating, I dragged my tired body to bed. I checked some news and other information on my phone before getting ready to sleep.

But today, seeing Simon changed everything. I felt rejuvenated, spending time with my son watching cartoons and listening to his school stories. I wished time could freeze at this moment, never moving forward. Katniss took care of household chores, occasionally glancing towards Simon and me with a happy smile. However, beneath her smile, there was a hint of unknown emotion. Lately, every time I saw this mysterious emotion in Katniss, my heart would race.

In the past, I could anticipate Katniss's thoughts based on my understanding of her and what I saw on surveillance. But recently, I found myself unable to grasp Katniss's intentions.

At bedtime, Katniss initially wanted Simon to sleep in Nathan's room next door. However, Simon insisted on sleeping with us. In the end, Katniss and I slept on either side, with Simon in the middle. The last time the three of us slept like this was before Simon started school.

Simon lay between us, facing up, while Katniss and I faced him, our hands resting on different parts of his body. The room was quiet, surprisingly even outside the window. The usual noisy traffic seemed to have disappeared, as if tonight was deliberately giving our family a peaceful night.

The warmth of the moment made all worries and troubles temporarily fade away. I cherished the tranquility, placing my hand on Simon's belly. He was already fast asleep, breathing evenly. Being young, he ate a lot and slept well.

As I was drifting off to sleep, I felt the hand on my body being held by another warm and soft hand. I knew it was Katniss's hand. Perhaps she thought I was already asleep. Our hands intertwined on Simon's body.

In the middle of the night, I woke up not from a nightmare but from the urge to urinate, likely due to drinking with Simon. I got up quietly, relieved myself, feeling more refreshed.

As I prepared to go back to bed, I remembered what the doctor had said during the hospital check-up earlier that day. Katniss needed to finish the remaining medication for her illness to be cured.

Thinking about Katniss's symptoms from before, I had some doubts. However, I trusted the doctor's expertise and had to believe in it.

Watching Katniss sleep peacefully with Simon, I quietly opened the cabinet and found her medication. After a thorough check, I realized there were four days' worth of medication left. It struck me that in four days, when the medication ran out, Katniss's addiction would be cured, at least her physical and hormonal balance would return to normal.

I lay back in bed, pondering whether Katniss would truly recover in four days. Could her relationship with Nathan be severed? Would it happen naturally or would I have to intervene?

The next morning, I woke up early to find Katniss had prepared breakfast for us. Perhaps due to her good mood, she seemed in good spirits. After breakfast, I left for work, leaving Simon and Katniss at home. According to Katniss, Michael and Sophia would come to pick up Simon today.

After a busy day at work, I returned home to find dinner ready. With only Katniss waiting for me, Simon's absence made her mood somewhat subdued. It was hard to let go of the warmth from the previous night.

If Katniss needed to recover quickly, the best way was for Simon to be around more often. Unfortunately, Michael and Sophia took better care of Simon's education and life.

Days passed by, and it was now three days before Katniss's medication would run out. Typically, after these days, Katniss's addiction would resurface. However, when I saw Katniss the next morning, she looked just as weary as before, with no change in her complexion or gaze. This made me suspicious.

According to the doctor, if Katniss was on the path to recovery, her addiction should have been delayed. Why was there no change yet? Could the doctor have lied to me? No, he wouldn't dare.

As I was getting ready in the bathroom, I noticed a change in the cup. The handle was in a specific position, a signal from Katniss to Nathan, seeking my approval. I stood in the bathroom, staring at the cup instead of brushing my teeth. With one day left of Katniss's medication, would things improve after she finished it? She had made a move today. Reflecting on the progression from the beginning, I hesitated. After much thought, I picked up the cup and started brushing my teeth. Afterward, I placed the cup back in the same position Katniss had turned it to, with the handle still in that specific direction.

Yes, I agreed to Katniss's signal, considering it the final time. After Katniss finished her medication, I would decide what to do about her and Nathan.

Honestly, witnessing Katniss and Nathan's intimacy, her deep involvement, and the peculiarities during the check-up, a sense of fear crept into my heart. I feared where her relationship with Nathan was heading and what unexpected events might occur. Despite Nathan's age and limited time left, my unease grew stronger.

Exiting the bathroom, Katniss appeared with breakfast in hand. We exchanged a glance, but she quickly looked away in a fluster. I pretended everything was normal, sitting at the table and chatting with her.

After breakfast, Katniss helped me dress, smoothing out my clothes.

Leaving the house, I descended the stairs, the door closing behind me. Would Katniss rush to the bathroom to check the cup as soon as I left? Perhaps.

During my time at the office, I was tempted several times to check the home surveillance footage, but I resisted each time.

I forced myself to focus on work and not think about home, but during rare breaks, thoughts of the situation at home crept in. Had Nathan returned home? Were they engaging in intimate activities during the day like before? We had discussed the risks of daytime intimacy, and if discovered, the consequences would be severe.

Finally, as the workday ended, I stretched and reached for my suit, preparing to go home. It was then that I remembered the situation at home.

Today was the day Katniss had made a move on Nathan, and I had agreed. Should I go home tonight?

If something had happened during the day, that was one thing. But if nothing had happened and they planned to do something tonight, should I go back? I had promised Katniss that I would return home as usual, as she didn't want me to lose sleep or be more tired at work due to Nathan.

What should I do? I set aside my suit and took out the encrypted device. I decided to check the situation at home first. At least I needed to know if anything had happened between Katniss and Nathan during the day, if Nathan was home now, as I hadn't received any calls from Katniss all day. Only after understanding the situation at home would I make a decision.

I inserted the encrypted device into the computer and opened the familiar software and interface.
