Chapter 300
Everything seemed to return to normal, Nathan didn't even pretend to shirk responsibility, and readily agreed.
After Katniss finished speaking, her face turned red to the base of her neck. She quickly took the dishes to the kitchen, ostensibly to wash vegetables, but mainly to avoid the situation. After all, speaking those words to Nathan made Katniss very shy. Perhaps she hadn't thought much at the time, but she regretted it after saying it.
Seeing Katniss's shy demeanor, Nathan couldn't help but wonder why Katniss wanted to keep him.
He had originally turned on the TV to watch, but seeing Katniss busy in the kitchen, he looked around and then happily grabbed a mop to start cleaning the floor. It seemed like he was actively showing kindness, helping Katniss with some household chores, with a strong sense of pleasing.
Everything was proceeding as usual. After lunch, although Nathan usually took a nap, he surprisingly didn't this time. Perhaps he was too excited at the moment.
Katniss returned to the bedroom and lay down for a while. She couldn't sleep, tossing and turning in bed. Maybe all she could do now was watch the time. Sometimes she seemed excited, but most of the time she was conflicted, appearing worried. Perhaps all of this was because of what was going to happen tonight. Would the events of last night be repeated? On the other hand, Nathan, similar to Katniss, had fewer worries and more anticipation and excitement, as he frequently checked the time on his phone.
In the evening, Katniss prepared dinner in advance. Nathan stayed in the bedroom the whole time. After an afternoon of activities, Nathan finally fell asleep, seemingly preparing himself for something.
Even though it was almost time for me to get off work, Nathan showed no signs of waking up.
On the other hand, after preparing dinner, Katniss hesitated briefly. She knew Nathan had been trying to minimize our interactions recently, so he needed to eat early. After thinking for a while, Katniss spoke towards Nathan's bedroom, asking him to come out and eat. However, despite saying it twice, Nathan didn't come out of the bedroom. In the end, Katniss had to open the door and found Nathan sleeping soundly, with drool at the corner of his mouth. Who knows if he was having a romantic dream?
After seeing Nathan like that, Katniss quickly retreated from his room, checked the time, and felt like it was almost time for me to go home.
After some thought, Katniss took a pair of utensils and a plate, preparing a separate dinner for Nathan. She brought the dinner into Nathan's room and gently placed it on the bedside table. After finishing all this, Katniss slowly left the room.
Seeing Katniss's actions, I couldn't help but feel a bit jealous. It seemed like there was more understanding and tacit understanding between Katniss and Nathan. Katniss was becoming more considerate of Nathan. She understood Nathan's reluctance to see me, didn't want to disturb his sweet dreams, quietly brought the meal to his room, ensuring Nathan rested well and ate enough. Was she concerned about Nathan's health or his performance? When I arrived home, Nathan was still sleeping in his room, perhaps the failed lovemaking from last night kept him awake all night, and now he was catching up on sleep.
At that moment, I finally understood why Katniss looked so strange when I returned home. She thought I had already given my consent, and her unusual behavior was just a cover for her inner shyness.
Everything proceeded as usual, and I also understood the intention behind Katniss giving me a massage that night. It was her way of expressing gratitude, perhaps a form of compensation.
Reflecting on the events of that day, it seemed like Katniss had made up her mind to have a sexual relationship with Nathan that night. Since I didn't show any unusual or dissatisfied emotions last night, Katniss also let go of her last bit of guard. She just didn't know that at the time, it was all a misunderstanding.
As I closed my eyes to sleep, Katniss also kept her eyes closed, but her breathing was uneven, and she opened her eyes several times in the darkness, her eyes shining brightly.
On the other hand, before I finished eating at home, Nathan had already woken up next door. Upon waking up, he glanced at the dark window, then checked his phone and realized he had slept for a long time.
He instantly became more alert in his drowsy state, clearly hearing Katniss and me having dinner in the living room. He became nervous and had to lie down quietly again, trying not to make a sound, covering his mouth every time he yawned.
Only when Katniss and I entered the bedroom to rest did Nathan dare to move. As soon as he got up, he saw the dinner Katniss had prepared for him, knowing exactly who it was from.
However, when Nathan was about to turn on the light, he hesitated. After much thought, he carried the food to the window and began eating the lovingly prepared dinner by Katniss under the outdoor light, perhaps because he was really hungry, or maybe Katniss was just an excellent cook.
Nathan devoured all the dinner Katniss had prepared, but even after finishing, he still seemed somewhat unsatisfied.
After finishing the meal, Nathan tidied up the used utensils but felt unsure about whether he should open the door or what the situation was between me and Katniss at that moment.
In the end, Nathan had to put the utensils back on the windowsill, lay down, his face showing anticipation and anxiety. He had rested enough, eaten enough, and now he was ready to release all that energy and strength.
As time passed, Nathan tossed and turned in bed, waiting for too long, and couldn't help but feel confused. Did Katniss leave him at home all day just for him to sleep at home? Had he misunderstood something? Just as Nathan was conflicted, Katniss in the other room seemed to feel that the time was right, and I should have fallen asleep.
Throughout this process, Katniss was very conflicted. She had thought about giving up, but the desire that arose in her eyes made her seem unwilling. Before getting up, she put her ear near my mouth and nose because I didn't snore when sleeping. Katniss seemed to be using her ear and cheek to feel my breathing to determine if I was sleeping soundly.
After waiting for a while, Katniss finally made up her mind. Firstly, I was most likely really asleep since I was usually exhausted from work, and getting more sleep was a luxury for me. Secondly, she had waited for me for so long just to make sure I fell asleep, even though it was at my request, she still didn't want me to hear.
Katniss got out of bed slowly, constantly watching me, who was asleep, seemingly afraid that any noise would wake me up. Her movements were even more cautious than that night. At this moment, the surveillance footage seemed like a normal TV show, suddenly slowed down by several times.
In the end, I had to fast forward. Katniss walked out of the room and stood at the door of Nathan's bedroom. Everything was so careful, and on the other side, it wasn't until Katniss opened Nathan's door that he reacted because Katniss's movements from our bedroom to his were so careful.
This time, Nathan didn't pretend to be asleep as before but appeared very surprised and excited. Usually, when Katniss came to his room, there would be some signs, such as the sound of the door opening, footsteps, and so on. But this time, Katniss seemed to appear out of thin air.
Nathan was very excited, and in the darkness, Katniss might not have noticed Nathan's excited expression. But watching the night vision camera, I could clearly see Nathan's expression.
"Is he asleep?"
After Katniss entered the room, she noticed that Nathan was already awake. So she stood by the bed, facing Nathan, and after being excited for a while, Nathan finally spoke the first words of the night.
After Nathan spoke, Katniss didn't answer him, just nodded gently after thinking for a while. Although it was late at night, Nathan still saw the silhouette of Katniss nodding.
