Chapter 285
After waiting for half an hour, Katniss finally came out, followed by the attending physician, and the test results were also out. When Katniss saw me, she instantly lowered her head to avoid my gaze, with a hint of nervousness and fear in her eyes. Katniss is usually a calm woman who disguises her emotions, but even though her current emotions were subtle, I could still sense them. The reason for Katniss showing such strong emotions is that her emotional response is quite intense at the moment, and I really don't know what she is concerned and afraid of.
"The situation has improved a lot, but there is still a way to go before a full recovery. Just make sure to stay happy every day, avoid being irritable and repressed, and there will be a day of recovery." The attending physician handed me the test results, smiling, and said. On the other side, Katniss frowned slightly after hearing this, with a hint of melancholy. I don't know if it's just my inner feeling, but I sense a touch of relief in Katniss's emotions.
As Katniss and I left the hospital, Katniss, as usual, linked her arm with mine. We didn't speak a word because we both knew what the condition of sex addiction had brought us, so we both avoided bringing it up, wanting to talk but unable to find another topic.
"Let's go eat."
After glancing at the time, Katniss looked at me gently and said softly.
"No, you go ahead. Coming out has already delayed a lot of work for me. I need to make the most of my time. I'll order takeout and eat while working at the office."
I looked at Katniss and when she heard my words, a hint of sadness flashed in her eyes.
"Darling, are you upset? If you don't want to, I can end it now. After all, the condition is improving."
Seeing my expression, Katniss, with a hint of nervousness in her eyes, lowered her head in thought for a moment before looking up at me. Although she had a determined look in her eyes, behind that determination, I could see a hint of hesitation and uncertainty.
"Let's just go with the flow. I'll take you home."
I smiled and said, then led Katniss towards the car, with Katniss quietly following me.
Although I appeared calm on the surface, my emotions were complex inside.
This stemmed from a brief conversation I had with the attending physician just fifteen minutes ago while Katniss was in the restroom. I had informed the attending physician beforehand because this hospital was also related to Mia, and I was one of Mia's closest associates. Therefore, the attending physician respected me greatly. I told him to inform Katniss that her condition had improved regardless of the test results, but she still needed treatment. The actual results were to be communicated to me over the phone or in private.
"Alright, Doctor, now tell me the true condition. Are you telling the truth or hiding something?"
After Katniss went to the restroom, I sat in the chair and asked the attending physician.
"Mr. Smith, there is some information being withheld. In fact, the test results just came out, and your partner's endocrine system is already back to normal, with just a minor issue remaining. As long as she finishes this course of medication, she will fully recover."
After Katniss left, the attending physician immediately stood up from the chair and hurried over to me, whispering beside me with respect and humility in his tone.
I had told him not to reveal our relationship, so he dared to show his true attitude in front of me.
"Do we need to prescribe new medication?"
I had been busy with work recently and had no idea how much medication was left at home or how long it would last for Katniss.
"No need. I estimated her condition beforehand, and the amount of medication prescribed is just right. She only needs to finish the remaining medication."
"Can you guarantee a complete recovery with the medication?"
I looked at the doctor skeptically because I hadn't seen any signs of improvement in Katniss recently.
"It will definitely work. At least her physiology and endocrine system will return to normal."
The doctor said firmly, with confidence in his eyes. As a seasoned doctor, even an expert, I still trusted his qualifications and abilities.
"That's good. About this matter..."
I nodded and continued.
"Don't worry, Mr. Smith, I will absolutely not disclose her condition to anyone, including Ms. Brown."
The doctor interrupted me, reassuring me with a hand on his chest.
He guessed what I was going to say before I finished speaking and even promised not to disclose it to Mia. I felt much relieved. At least this doctor knew who his direct superior was and could anticipate some of the leader's thoughts. This made me feel more at ease.
When Katniss returned from the restroom, the doctor was sitting in the chair chatting with me, displaying a level of professionalism even greater than that of a professional actor. This kind of flattery would be very useful for anyone, and I was no exception.
Returning to the present, the car was already on the way back home, with Katniss sitting silently beside me. It seemed my speculation was correct; bringing Katniss back for a reexamination would inevitably lead to some negative thoughts and worries for her. I didn't know why I had the attending physician hide Katniss's true condition, and the doctor seemed puzzled too. But as a seasoned doctor and intelligent subordinate, he knew better than to ask questions he shouldn't ask. With my current position and status, it would be easy to make him feel uncomfortable, so I wasn't worried about confidentiality issues.
When we arrived home, Katniss and I exchanged greetings before she went upstairs. Watching her back and her steps, I could sense a hint of nervousness lingering in her heart even after a while.
As for me, I returned to the office. I didn't know where Katniss's nervousness today came from, in which direction, whether she was afraid of her condition improving and being separated from Nathan, or afraid that her condition wouldn't improve and she would have to continue in this conflicting whirlpool.
After a busy day of work, it was already evening when I returned home. Katniss had prepared a sumptuous meal, and there was an extra person in the house, a man, or more precisely, a little man, my son, Simon.
Due to my busy work schedule recently, I hadn't seen my son for a long time. Strangely, I didn't see Michael and Sophia either. Simon had always been taken care of by Michael and Sophia, and they were the ones who brought Simon back home.
However, every time Michael and Sophia brought Simon home, it was during the day, and I had missed several opportunities to reunite with Simon.
"Where are Michael and Sophia?"
I sat on the sofa, scratching Simon's head. Perhaps Simon was the one who could give me the most motivation at this moment. No matter how tough and tiring it was outside, as soon as I saw my son, all worries and fatigue would disappear without a trace. Perhaps this was the power of family.
"My parents didn't come. I brought Simon back."
Katniss brought the food to the table. Although there were only three of us for dinner, there were five or six dishes, and each dish was something that Simon and I loved to eat.
It was then that I remembered it was already the weekend. Simon was on break because of Katniss's condition, requiring a quiet environment, and Simon being young and active, Michael and Sophia usually didn't let him be alone with Katniss to avoid disturbing her.
It was the weekend, and I had been so busy that I had forgotten what day it was.
"Where are Michael and Sophia?"
I asked again. How could Michael and Sophia be so at ease letting Katniss bring Simon back alone?
"I brought Simon back today. My parents will come to pick him up tomorrow morning. I had to explain for a long time before my parents allowed me to bring Simon back alone, and only for one night."
Katniss sighed at the end.
"Honey, how long has it been since the three of us had a meal together as a family?"
After sighing, Katniss showed a slight smile, setting the table for us with a hint of nostalgia in her expression.
"It's been a while."
I thought carefully for a moment but couldn't come up with an answer because my mind was filled with too many things at the moment. It seemed that ever since Nathan moved into my house, no, since I was preparing for Nathan to have a relationship with Katniss, there hadn't been a time when the three of us had a meal together alone. At least Nathan's presence would always be there, and when the three of us had a meal together, Simon had just started walking and talking incoherently.
Simon began to eat heartily, carefree. Katniss and I, however, didn't pick up our forks. Instead, we reminisced, facing each other, perhaps recalling the same moments in our minds.
