Chapter 268
During the time when Katniss was struggling internally, every moment alone with Nathan, her sex addiction was tormenting her. If it weren't for the morning cup incident, Katniss would definitely have had sex with Nathan without hesitation, even as she did last time when she took the initiative to enter Nathan's room at night.
But now she has constraints, the commitment to her husband. Others might think it's okay to secretly engage in such activities, as long as the husband doesn't find out and the traces are cleaned up. Katniss's struggle definitely stems from this.
If it were someone with a bad reputation, they would definitely choose deception and betrayal. How will Katniss ultimately choose? After dinner, Katniss started to tidy up the tableware. She didn't eat much during dinner, she was absent-minded, and her mood was very low.
Meanwhile, Nathan had already sat on the couch watching TV, but as usual, he was also absent-minded, occasionally stealing glances at Katniss's body with desire. Watching TV was just a facade for him; the real thing was waiting to have sex with Katniss.
After Katniss finished tidying up, she quickly entered the bedroom, while Nathan smiled knowingly. Perhaps he thought Katniss had gone to change clothes in the room.
After entering the room, Nathan turned off the TV and returned to his own bedroom. Katniss had told Nathan not to take the initiative, so all Nathan could do now was to wait in his room. He might have thought Katniss would come to his room.
However, what Nathan didn't expect was that after Katniss returned to the bedroom, she sat down with her back to the door, burying her face in her knees. I couldn't see her expression at that moment, but her body was very still, indicating she wasn't crying.
Perhaps she was struggling and hesitating about something.
After a while, Katniss lifted her head, her expression calming down.
She changed her clothes, put on pajamas, then turned and walked out of the bedroom, opening the door to the bathroom.
Just like before, Katniss turned on the shower and started bathing.
The only difference this time was that Katniss locked the bathroom door.
And I noticed that Katniss didn't turn on the water heater, letting the icy cold water wash over her body, seemingly cooling down the burning desire within her.
On the other side, Nathan lay on the bed tossing and turning, waiting anxiously. He sat up several times, seemingly complaining about why Katniss hadn't come yet. When Nathan heard the sound of Katniss entering the bathroom, he lay back down contentedly, knowing that Katniss would soon enter the room. Now all he needed to do was pretend to be asleep, so as not to embarrass Katniss later.
Katniss spent a long time under the cold water, not worrying about catching a cold.
After a long shower, Katniss dried herself off, got dressed, and walked out of the bathroom.
In the past, Katniss would usually wrap herself in a towel to enter Nathan's room without needing to change clothes. But this time, Katniss put on clothes before coming out.
After closing the bathroom door, Katniss stood at the entrance, looking towards Nathan's door, her eyes filled with passion and desire. But in the end, she forced herself to close her eyes, turned her body away with difficulty, and walked towards her own bedroom. Once back in the bedroom, Katniss closed the door and locked it.
Finally, Katniss leaned against the door, mirroring her previous actions, burying her face in her knees.
In Nathan's room, Nathan was originally lying on the bed waiting. When he heard the water stop in the bathroom, Nathan couldn't help but get excited. As he heard the sound of the bathroom door opening, Nathan lay quietly and closed his eyes to pretend to be asleep.
Nathan waited, his heart seemingly racing, but after waiting for a long time, all he heard was the sound of another door opening and closing.
Upon hearing this sound, Nathan quickly opened his eyes, looking puzzled. He couldn't understand why Katniss went back to get something. With these thoughts in mind, Nathan waited quietly once again.
But as time passed, there was no sound from Katniss's side, making Nathan anxious. He gently got out of bed, opened his door, peeked into the living room, but after waiting for a while, he didn't hear any sound, just darkness.
Nathan retreated back into his room, lying back down on the bed, waiting.
As time passed and the wait became unbearable, Nathan finally got up, opened the door, and walked out.
Nathan was anxious, more so puzzled. We had both agreed, and my overtime was a signal for us to engage in a sexual relationship. Why didn't Katniss come to him tonight? Did I do something wrong? Maybe Katniss and I suddenly changed our minds? Maybe she no longer wants him to be involved in anything in the future, but at least she should have told him.
When Nathan reached Katniss's door, he hesitated with his hand raised. On the other side, Katniss, who had her head buried in her knees, heard the sound of Nathan opening the door, as well as his footsteps, which were so clear because she was sitting right by the door. Katniss lifted her face from her knees, looking very nervous. She couldn't help but turn her head to look at the door, knowing that Nathan was just on the other side.
After hesitating and struggling for a long time, Nathan took a deep breath and finally knocked on Katniss's door. The sound of the door knocking seemed like a thunderbolt, startling Katniss.
"Katniss, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
After much thought, Nathan finally came up with this excuse, ostensibly asking about Katniss's health, but actually questioning why she wasn't with him tonight.
"Katniss, can you hear me?"
Not getting a response from Katniss, Nathan couldn't help but ask again, knocking on the door once more.
Katniss wasn't silent because she didn't want to respond, but because she didn't know how to reply. She seemed at a loss, unable to tell him the real reason behind the cup incident.
When Nathan asked for the second time, Katniss stood up, then placed her hand on the door lock, instinctively wanting to open the door. But when her hand touched the icy lock, Katniss's movement stopped.
If she opened the door and embraced Nathan, everything would fall into place. The feeling of being intimate with Nathan made her yearn for it, but she bit her lip in conflict, almost biting it off. Finally, Katniss let go of the door lock.
She leaned back, seemingly forcing herself away from the door, away from Nathan.
After two unanswered inquiries from Nathan, he had to press down on the door lock, feeling anxious, perhaps genuinely worried that something had happened to Katniss inside.
But after Nathan pressed the door lock, he found that the door was locked from the inside, and he couldn't push it open.
"Katniss, what's going on? Can you say something?"
Nathan was getting a bit anxious now. Deep down, he knew Katniss wasn't in danger, just avoiding him and being indifferent, which made him very anxious. So instead of knocking, he started to pound on the door with his hand.
"Dad, I'm fine. Please go back to sleep."
Katniss leaned against the back of the computer chair, with no way out, keeping the maximum distance between herself and the door.
Realizing that Nathan wouldn't give up, Katniss had to tell him. When she told Nathan to go back to sleep, she hesitated for a moment, showing that she was reluctant to do so. But she closed her eyes and forced herself to make that decision.
Nathan's next words were blocked by Katniss's response. He was dumbfounded, wondering what had happened. This was completely different from before. What was going on?
Nathan rubbed his face and hair with both hands, as if trying to confirm if he was dreaming, unable to accept the situation at that moment.
"Katniss, can you please open the door? Let's talk, what's going on? Why are you being so cold to me?"
Nathan was trembling, more confused, disappointed, and heartbroken. He felt unwilling, like being left in the dark. At least let him understand a little.
"Katniss."
After waiting for a while and still not getting a response from Katniss, Nathan asked again, his voice filled with melancholy and sadness.
Nathan's call affected Katniss, who finally closed her eyes in the room and covered her ears with her hands. She didn't want to hear Nathan's words.
"Please, go to sleep."
Covering her ears and closing her eyes, unable to block out everything, Katniss had to shake her head like a madwoman, almost screaming out those words.
Nathan was stunned by Katniss's cry from the bedroom. He didn't see Katniss, but her cry was due to her inner conflict, trying to uphold her commitment while Nathan's voice kept undermining her rationality. When she felt she couldn't hold on any longer, she shouted out those words, partly to wake herself up, release her melancholy, and partly to make Nathan stop bothering her.
But Nathan misunderstood Katniss's intention. His expression suddenly aged, perhaps thinking Katniss was angry, fed up with him. In the end, Nathan awkwardly rubbed his pant legs with his hands, standing there with a bitter smile, or perhaps a wry smile, a middle-aged man being reduced to this state by a young woman.
After standing awkwardly for a while, Nathan didn't say anything but left Katniss's door with complex emotions.
As he heard Nathan's footsteps leaving, Katniss breathed a sigh of relief, but her eyes showed disappointment and an unmistakable reluctance.
Finally, Katniss could only collapse onto the bed, letting out faint sobs.
Her husband's suspicions, physical needs, and the recent entanglement with Nathan all erupted at once, making it unbearable for her. Perhaps crying at that moment was the best way to release her emotions.
Seeing this scene, I couldn't help but furrow my brow. Was my probing in the morning right or wrong? Why did it turn out like this? The consequences seemed somewhat serious. Because I saw Nathan, after returning to the room, not continuing to rest but instead changing clothes as if he had lost his soul. He changed slowly but ended up dressed neatly.
Finally, Nathan slowly walked out of the room to the front door, put on his shoes, glanced at Katniss's bedroom, opened the door, and left the house.
Nathan wouldn't be able to bear it. He must be planning to return to the island now, feeling rejected by Katniss and experiencing only awkwardness and sadness when alone with her.
How can I be sure Nathan is going back to the island? Because as Nathan left, he picked up the keychain with the keys to the island from the shoe cabinet.
Katniss, who had been crying on the bed, heard the sound of the door closing and quickly stopped crying, lifting her tear-streaked face.
