Chapter 24

Months Later*****
***
'It's been two years already darling and there is still no improvement nor has our son's illness stopped. Instead it gets worse by the day and his hatred for me keeps growing daily" Desse sadly said to Riel.
~Riel, who was in his study going through some important documents before she came in with her complaint, was seriously trying to concentrate on what he was doing at that point, not allowing her presence to be a distraction to him. This was not the first Desse would bring up this topic and anytime they talked about it they ended up fighting. That was the only thing they talked about for the past few months and Riel was not happy with that. She has become less of herself, she no longer communicates well with people even Christabel that was now more like a daughter to her since she came in, she constantly skips her meal and any time she was all to hers she was crying.~
But Desse was not taking his silence lightly.
'Ray, why are you not saying anything? Are you trying to avoid the question or you are too busy and want me to leave your study? Which one is it?" Desse asked.
Riel did not still give her any reply. He kept his face stocked to the computer that was in front of him and when he raoup his head he was going through the files on his hand.
'Ray! Ray!! Riel!! I am talking to you!" Desse shouted.
The noise was so loud in his ear that he was even startled. But that didn't convince him to raise his head. Desse is surprised to see that even after the shout he did not reply to her.
'Ray, why are you trying to avoid this conversation and making me look like I am sick? I know you are not bothered because you get to see our son every single day but do you know how hard it is for me?" She said to him sadly.
Riel tried raising his head a little to see her face, he wanted to know if she was crying because crying was now a normal thing for her and he wondered if she cries every thing out what would be left in her eye. Desse bent her head to the floor as she continued talking.
'Riel, I miss Louis so much and it hurts me so much anytime I remember that I may never see him again. For the past few months our Louis sickness has increased too much to the point that I cannot even see him through the door because he would notice through my scent. Ray, what do we do about this? I am dying to see our son." She said as a few drops of tears welled down her cheeks.
Riel understood fully how she was feeling but there was nothing he could do about it. They have tried all means to make sure he is well again but it ended up in vain. He was going to still ignore her because he had not gotten over his last fight with her but her tears got something on him. He didn't like it anytime she cried, he would always try to avoid any quarrel with her that would lead to tears.
Seeing her cry this time melted his heart and he could not help it, so he went to meet her.
'My love, I know how much you have missed our baby boy Louis and he misses you too and you also know how much I tried to make sure our son gets better again but鈥 ' he said to her holding her hands.
'But what? It ends up in vain right?" She stopped him
He was about to talk but she stopped him and continued.
'I think we have tried but we have not done enough like our best you know. I want to see him get better even if it makes me step out of my boundaries, at least that is what all mothers do for their children." With her eyes fixed on his and their hand tightly holding each other.
'I know my love but what do mean by not doing enough, we have practically done everything we could to heal him. I even overstepped my boundaries and you know that, I have done everything but losing you is never going to be part of it" he said to her still looking deep into her eyes.
'And who says you are going to lose me. I am not going anywhere. I am here with you forever. It's just that鈥 hmm鈥 you already said you stepped your boundaries but I don't think I have as a mother to him, in fact I think I have not done anything for our son other than staying indoor crying like I am mourning him already." Desse said to him, ceasing him in his hand.
'No darling don't say that, you have practically done everything you can to make sure our Louis is well again. You wake up every morning to make him his favorite meal, personally do his laundry and you keep praying for him. What better kind of mother and wife would I ever pray for if not you love. I and everybody in the mansion knows how much you have tried and how much you love our son Louis." Riel assured her
His words were the exact words she has been willing to hear for the past few months. Hearing him say those words did not only ease the burden and guilt she felt but it also gladdened her heart.
'Really Riel, are you for real or you are only saying that to make me feel better" she said with a smile on her face.
It's been a while since Riel has seen her smile. He was so happy to know tff he at his words made her smile this time around and did not end up in a fight like it always does.
'Yes darling, I am for real you are the best gift God has gaven me and Louis you know." He say to her as he stared at her lips like he was going to eat it.
Desse understood his signals and decided to satisfy him since it been long she did her duty as his wife.
