Chapter 69

Poor Desse to have thought it was over with the girl. She finished dressing, leaving the room to the kitchen to fetch the king's meal.
While she took it with her, someone came from the other direction, jamming her shoulder against hers.
The tray of food fell to the ground, some paticules of the food stained on her white dress.
' Are you blind that you didn't see me?" She looked at the lady, her voice sounding so familiar.
It was the same lady who was spying on her last night. She frowned.
' Are you intentionally stalking me or what? I should be the one asking you if you had the eyes to see. ' She bent to pick the broken tray and plates, but was stopped by the lady who had already grabbed her hair.
' You silly big mouth." She cursed. ' I'm very sure it's your mouth that got you here."
' Let go off my hair. Ahh, you're hurting me. ' She cried, fighting back to let go.
' Don't waste your time bitch. ' She slapped her to the ground. Taking hold of her hair again, she slapped the other cheek.
Desse held her affected cheeks, ' What do you want from me?" She asked as tears threatened to leave her eyes.
' You think working as his personal maid will gain you the favour you desire? ' She scoffed. ' You're wrong, because he will be the same to make your life a miserable hell. '
She walked away, leaving her on the floor.
She got to her feet, dusting her dress. Then she returned back to the kitchen with the tray broken tray.
The cook looked at her, surprised. She had thought Matt had thrown the food at her out of annoyance or maybe the meal wasn't tasty enough.
But that can't be possible. Never have he complained that her food wasn't good. So what might have caused her to return?
' What happened to the meal?" Asked the cook.
' I got hit by someone and the tray fell off my hands." She explained.
' I can't believe his highness still harbor wicked people in this castle. ' She said, shooking her head.
She put his meal in a different plate, dropping it on a different tray. ' Be careful with this." She told her.
Desse took it from her, holding both edges of the tray firmly. ' Thank you." She greeted.
' It's nothing, I was once in the field so I do understand how it feels. Now go, don't keep his highness waiting. '
This time, she decided to be careful and conscious of her environment in case if someone was coming from another direction she would be ready to avoid getting in contact with the person.
When she entered his room, he was busy with some files on his table that he didn't notice her walk in.
' Sir, here is your food." She informed.
He rose his gaze at her. ' Oh. You know what, just drop it on the table, I'm kinda busy to eat right now. Thanks by the way. '
Desse was relieved. She was expecting him to shout or scream the earth out of her but rather he wasn't in the mood to eat any thing.
She left the room.
She trailed around the fortress, some part of the building looked ancient, like there hasn't been anyone in those areas for the past hundred centuries of existence.
She got to a room, above it was written 'Riel" in capital letters on a golden stone.
It was locked with a big padlock, every sides of the door was stained with dust and webs. That was Riel's room centuries ago??
' You shouldn't be here." Said a voice.
She turned to see who it was. She has never seen the face before. ' I know. I was just about leaving." She turned to leave.
' Stop right there." She stopped. The lady walked to her front. ' You're the girl from the rogue camp, right?"
Desse made no comment.
' Hmm." She hummed. ' What were you trying to do on that door? To open it? Or to find things worth stealing? ' She questioned
' I was just walking around, that's all. '
' Well, what I saw you doing wasn't walking around, you were actually up to something evil. And if my guess is right, then you're planning to open that door. '
' I swear, I wasn't thinking of doing that. ' She sweared.
' I can see, you haven't learned the rules yet. But if you are thinking that being his highness's maid will save you or give you the freedom to do whatever you want, then you're wrong. You just walked in here yesterday so don't feel too big already. '
Another maid showed up. ' What's going on here? ' She asked.
' She was attempting to open Prince Riel's room." Replied the other maid.
' What?" She exclaimed. ' And you still haven't reported it to his highness? What are you still waiting for, go! ' She urged.
' I'm serious, I wasn't planning on sneaking in there. And besides, it's locked. I don't have the keys with me to talk of the strength to open that padlock. ' She defended.
' You might not be with any of those but at least, who knows if you're a witch or something. The last time I heard, those creatures doesn't need anything to help them. ' Said the second maid, not wanting to believe her.
The first maid without haste, rushed to have Desse reported to the alpha prince.
She knocked and he let her in. ' Sir, I have some thing to report to you." She announced.
' Go on, I am listening." He said, but still had his eyes focused on the book before him.
' It's about your maid, Desse."
' What about her?"
' She attempted to open Prince Riel's chamber. Luckily, I caught her on time. ' She informed.
Matt paused, staring up at her. ' Desse? ' He asked, surprised.
' Yes, sir. '
' Are you sure of this? ' He asked again.
' I'm certain, your highness. I saw her with my own eyes. I also have a witness who can testify to this." She said, certainly.
' Call in Desse. ' He requested, anger written on his face.
As soon as she left his room, she smiled in victory. ' Soon, you will be as dead as the others." She scoffed.
Desse was with the rest of the maids in the room when she was called out. ' Desse, His highness requests for you immediately."
All eyes moved to her. She acted like she wasn't on earth and she didn't notice the eyes watching her, she left to Matt's chamber.
She slowly opened the door, walking in. ' You called me, sire."
' Yes, I did." He threw her an angry gaze. ' Is it true of what I heard about you? ' He asked.
' It is not, sire. ' She simply said.
' And why should I believe you over to them? '
' Because there is no way I can unlock the padlock even if I tried to. I was only strolling around the fortress that's all, I had no intention of doing anything stupid. '
' Can you swear for that? '
' I swear with my life, I did not open neither attempted to do so. ' She boldly said.
Matt believed her, and for the love he has for her, he wouldn't want to hurt her for any reason. Seeing how bold she defended herself, he knew she wouldn't dare to lie to him.
'I believe you."
'Thank you."
' You don't have to thank me, I know you won't try disappointing me, not after all I've done for you. It seems like sleeping with the other maids will cause a lot problem, I will talk to the chief maid to find some where else for you. I don't want anyone falsely accusing you. '
' I didn't complain, sire. I am okay sleeping with the maids. Besides, it's not everyone who hates me. 'She refuses.
' You might end up getting hurt by the few who hates you. So don't worry, you didn't ask for it, I made the decision myself. '
A part of her wasn't cool with the idea, another part of her was. If staying away from those maids will save her life then she's fine with the idea.
She returned back to the room, all the maids kept watching her like they were just meeting her for the first time.
' Why the stares guys? Why can't you all just let her be for once. ' Some one said.
Desse looked at the girl, it was the same girl who had called her from the stock department the other day.
' I'm pretty sure you already know what she did." Another chipped in.
' We all know because you and Caro won't keep your mouth shut. You successfully had her reported to alpha Matt, what else do you still want from her? '
' She doesn't deserve to be one of us, she deserves to work like them. '
' Remember you were once like them. You managed to get here because of your beauty, so don't try bragging about anything. '
Sophie was quiet, she couldn't talk anymore.
It wasn't up to thirty minutes yet when the chief maid walked in. ' Desse Van Amstel." She called.
She stood up. ' Follow me."
Desse left and never came back, so the rest of the maids who hated her had thought alpha Matt had already dealt with her, unknown to them, she was somewhere more comfortable.
On the other side, Desse hasn't stopped wondering what could be inside that room that would cause Matt to restrain anyone from entering into it.
' What are you hiding in there, Matt?"
She waited for night to approach before she could leave the room. She wanted to go back to the room, she wanted a way to find answers even without breaking the padlocks.
But the question is鈥� How can she find the answers she seeks with the door locked?
When it was finally dawn, and everywhere was dark, only the candle lights reflected everywhere, she left to Riel's chamber.
Standing before it, she scanned her eyes on the door. She places her right hand in the door, trailing her fingers on it.
A wild wind blew towards her, pushing her to the ground. She pulled herself up to her feet, she wasn't gonna touch the door again.
She stood, staring at the written name above the door.
' Desse!!!" The same voice called, that which she hated to hear.
She ignored it, heading to her room when it sounded more like it was just behind her. ' Stop."
She found herself stopping.
' Turn around." It ordered.
She turned as the voice had ordered.
' The door."
She walked back to the door. How she was obediently doing what it says without a hesitation was what baffled her.
She went to the door, standing before it.
' Touch it." Her hand rose up, resting on the door. ' Close your eyes. '
She closed her eyes. ' What do you see? ' It asked.
She could see the same flower she had seen in the cave in her dream. Only one leaf remained in it.
' A flower." She said softly. ' I see a flower."
' A flower." He repeated. ' Open your eyes. '
She opened her eyes to see herself laying on her bed in her room. Okay, that's another question to ask. How the heck did she get in there?
Guess that's a question for some other time.
