Chapter 77

Desire ran to the physician's chamber as soon as she heard the news. To her greatest surprise, it wasn't just the normal rumors she had thought, it was real.
Lady Desse laid on the bed, her eyes closed like a dead corpse.
'What happened to her?" She asked the physician who was checking on the remedy book. 'Is she dead?"
He looked at her above his lenses. 'Of course not. Her majesty is alive, she's just under some uncertain condition right now. '
' Uncertain condition?" She asked. That's weird. ' What uncertain condition are you talking about? '
'Well, as you can see, Her majesty was poisoned and鈥 I am working on a cure. Rest assure, the poison isn't a dangerous one. ' He assured her.
But that wasn't convincing to Desire. As far as she was poisoned, she doesn't believe there are poisons more severe than the others.
All were poison to her.
Matt entered, his eyes directed to Desse's body. 'How is she?" He asked, not sparing the physician a glance.
' Not sure of an answer but, I'm still working on it. I can assure you, she will survive this by tomorrow."
Matt felt a bit relieved.
Desire guessed Matt needed to be with her so she excused herself. She knew who was behind this act. And there is only one out of many who hated Desse so much.
She angrily pushed the door open as she stepped into the room. 'Sophie!!" Her face wore anger, her eyes searched the room for Sophie.
'And why the heck would you hell my name like an animal? Haven't you gotten some respect for it?" She said, walking out from her bed.
'Respect?" She scoffed. 'Fu*k you with your respect."
'Yeah, I'm already fu*ked off. So, why are you here? Aren't you supposed to be with Her majesty?"
' Don't act like you don't know what happened."
' What happened?"she asked back.
' Oh, now see the devil in pretence. Aren't you the one who poisoned her meal? Why asking me what happened?" She frowned.
' I don't know what you are talking about so you can at least try to be specific." She hung her hand on her waist.
'Seriously? You poisoned Her majesty. Should I go further explaining that you almost killed her?"
Sophie shrugged her shoulders. 'I don't know, maybe."
'Apart from Caro who I can't really vow for, you are the only one who desperately wants Desse dead. So, I will have you reported to His majesty, and I will convince him that it was you who poisoned his queen."
Sophie rolled her eyes, folding her arms around her chest. 'Well, go ahead, do whatever you wish to do, I'm not gonna stop you. But, I just hope you have enough proof to defend yourself?"
' Don't worry about the proof, I have more than enough with me." She left the room.
' Good luck with the journey. See you at the judgement hall!!" She walked back to her bed.
The rest of the maids bursted out laughing. ' Who cares what happens to the Queen? That good for nothing bitch." Said one with a scoff.
' She should die as long as I care." Said another.
' But wait, are you for sure the poison will kill her? ' Asked another.
'I'm certain it will. '
' What if it doesn't? I heard the physician is really good at curing stuffs like this."
' Don't worry, even if he did cure it, I have another sweet agenda for her. And I am more than certain it will work out. She will prefer being dead than to face what I am about to do."
' Would you mind giving us a hint?" Caro suggested.
'Don't worry, I'll let you all know that when the time comes." She laughed.
Desire returned back to the physician chamber, Desse's body still laid at the same position.
The physician was busy with the remedy book, which assisted him in making some portions.
'Where is His majesty?" She asked.
'He is in his room. Whatever it is you wish to tell him, let it be until tomorrow." He adviced.
' He needs to hear this." She insisted.
' You will only make things worst if you tell him." He warned.
She looked at Desse, if only she had listened to her warning, none of this would have happened.
Now, she wasn't only talking about getting married to Matt, there are evil eyes everywhere for her.
Matt on the other side suspects no one but his brother. He thinks that this were the ways Riel wanted him to drop off the crown.
This made him more angry than he was. He cursed to have Riel dead if he ever sets his eyes on him.
And things won't go quite well if Desse dies. He would make this war more bloody than they both hoped for.
She knocked on the door. 'Let me be." He said.
'Sire, it's I, Desire. I know who's behind Her majesty's poisoning."
Matt would have yelled at her to leave his room, but on hearing what she just said, he quickly opened the door.
'What did you just say?" He asked, one hand holding the edge of his door.
'I know who is behind the plot." She repeated.
'Who is that?" He asked in clenched teeth.
' Her name is Sophie." She answered.
' Do you have any proof if I am to question her?"
' Yes, sire."
He lets her in. ' What makes you suspect Sophie is behind this?" He questioned.
' Because since Her majesty walked into the fortress, Sophie has always envied her. She was the one who came up with the idea of reporting Her majesty to you concerning Prince Riel's chamber.
She is doing all these in order for you to execute Her majesty and rather take her as your Queen. I am telling you this, Your Majesty because that is exactly what she said to my face."
' Guards!" He called.
They entered, bowing their heads. ' Yes, sire."
' I need Sophie鈥" looks at Desire, 'Is there anyone else alongside this鈥 Sophie?" He asked.
' Yes." She answered. ' Her name is Caro."
' I need Sophie and Caro arrested now. An immediate judgement will be passed out first thing tomorrow morning." He commanded.
' Yes, sire!!"
The guards barged into the maid's room. 'Who is Sophie and Caro?" One of them asked.
'They are not here." They answered in unison.
He dragged one of the girls, holding his sword on her neck. 'I'm gonna ask again, who is Sophie and Caro?" He stormed.
They refused to talk and he pointed the sword closer, creating a mark on her neck.
'Wait. If I tell you, will you let her go?"
'I will." Said the guard.
'Sophie and Caro left as soon as Desire left the room. They knew she was going to have them reported."
' Can you tell where they went to?" He asked.
' They refused to tell us."
He drops his sword, pushing the girl beck to them. 'Let's go." He said to the other.
As soon as they left, the rest of the maids threw an angry gaze at her.
' Why did you tell them?" Asked one of them.
'Are you gonna let them kill her for nothing? Whatever that is going on is their business and not ours. So I'm gonna say this, if you're still on Sophie's side, you're on your own because, she won't even spare you a glance when she eventually gets the throne. My advice, stop wasting your time."
She held the other girl whom the guard had pointed his sword at. 'Are you alright?" She asked, checking the mark on her neck. ' Does it hurt?"
The girl shook her head.
The guards went to report the news to King Matt who didn't take it so easy. 'I need you to search the entire palace and cities, they won't be far."
The search went on from dusk till dawn, yet the two ladies couldn't be found.
*************
Desse woke up with a cough. She noticed a hand across her waist, she turned to the side of the bed to see Matt asleep.
'Your Majesty." She called, tapping his hand. 'Your Majesty."
He opened his eyes, rubbing it softly. 'My Lady?" He was surprised to see her awake. 'My lady, you're awake."
'You slept here?"
He nodded. 'I couldn't spend the night without you."
She forced a smile. ' Thank you for staying with me. '
He took her hand, placing a kiss. 'That's what I signed for. '
She touched his cheek. 'You don't have to worry about me, I'll be fine, okay? '
' I know. You stay here while I go order for your breakfast. ' He kissed her forehead. ' Just give me a second, okay? '
Desse laughed. ' A second is too small to get the meals ready. '
' It doesn't matter. '
She laughed. ' Okay. A second. Don't keep me waiting. '
He opens the door. ' I won't. I promise. '
Not quite long as he's promised, he showed up with a tray of food in his hands. 'I didn't waste time, did I?" He shuts the door with his leg.
'Not at all."
He drops the tray on the bed, before her. 'Go on, have your meal."
She picks the spoon, it was so difficult for her to grab the food. 'Let me help you." He decided.
He took the spoon from her, slowly, gradually, he fed her until the food was finished.
'Do you need more?" He asked, concerned.
'No, thanks, I'm full."
She watched as he drops the plate back on the tray, taking the glass of water up to her mouth. She drank a half of the glass. 'Thank you." She thanked.
'You don't have to." He drops the glass of water back on the tray. 'I'll be back again."
She hold his hand. Her lips were slightly opened like she did wanted to say something but nothing came out of her mouth.
He touches her hand. 'I'm not complaining."
He took the tray with him out of the room.
