CHAPTER 16
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Avyanna couldn’t control her gaze that graced Baron’s aura.
He appeared in his complete regalia that spoke of how he loved his throne. He wore a brown fur jacket that covered his black suit. The red tie he wore contrasted with his yellow retina and monochrome suit. His shoes were pointy and the second to best thing anyone noticed about him.
Avyanna tried to comport herself as she was trained to do but it wasn't that easy especially while she stood in front of Baron. She couldn't help but wonder why it was difficult for her to do so.
Baron, on his part, could not take his eyes off her; he kept staring at her, trying to understand why the Moon Goddess chose her for him.
"What could possibly make the Lycan Alpha want to talk to me after the way he spoke to me the last time I was on call with him?" Avyanna summoned her courage as the depths of minds were conflicted. Even if she wasn't going to cause any trouble, she decided that she couldn't just let Baron take control of her.
"About the way I sounded on the phone with you, I am sorry. I guess I just misinterpreted everything."
Gina's jaw dropped in shock, she could not remember the last time her brother had apologized so easily.
"Apology accepted." Avyanna said, smirking lightly.
"I don't want to waste much of your time. Tell me everything that you said when we spoke on the phone."
"Are you being serious? You're willing to help me?" Avyanna could not hide her excitement. She was excited at the mere idea of the Lycan Alpha standing by her side to make her plan turn to fruition; she thought it would make a lot of things easier for her.
"It depends on what the situation is." Baron hid the fact that he had to look for a means to get in touch with her again. He needed to see his mate and also get to know her more. Baron, even upon meeting his mate, was still not satisfied because there were still questions unanswered as to why Avyanna wasn't aware that Baron was her mate.
"Okay. I want to separate my pack from my husband's pack. We joined our pack by the time we got married."
"Walk with me." Baron said. He crossed his hands behind his back and walked slowly towards a quieter part of the hall, away from the Lycans and the crowd. Steve was Baron's shadow, never leaving his side unless it was necessary to. In that moment, Steve walked with Baron as Avyanna tabled her concern.
"Why do you want to separate it? Isn't he your chosen mate?" Baron asked Avyanna.
"I can't go into details right now but things have really changed between us and his real mate just came into his life now."
"And?"
"He hasn't rejected her yet."
"Why don't you give him some time? Maybe he is just trying to get used to the situation, he will definitely reject her and your marriage will go back to normal. It doesn't call for separating your pack from his." Steve interfered.
"I know my husband much more than anyone, you have to believe me." Avyanna knew she had more convincing to do because her reason wasn't enough and she couldn't tell them that she had died once. Only Gina knew her secret and she was pretending quite well like she knew nothing.
"Do you know the consequences of separating your pack from that of your husband's? Are you sure you are ready to do that right now?" Baron asked
"I am ready to do whatever it takes."
Baron paused before he asked, "Even if it means divorcing him?"
There was a brief moment of silence in the room. Avyanna didn't approach Baron with the idea of divorce, she had not thought her plan through, all she wanted to do was save her subjects from death_ a death that was caused by her actions in her past life. As she reminisced about how her past life ended, the things Nancy took away from her, and how Eric supported Nancy without considering her feelings, she boiled in anger.
"Yes even if it means divorcing him." Avyanna replied sternly.
"Very well then." Baron said, a smile forming on his lips.
"There are also several changes I would like to make in Wales which will involve bringing in new laws." Avyanna continued as she envisioned her plans progressing.
"Before then Luna Avyanna, have you thought about how your husband would feel especially with the fact that he isn't aware of what you're doing behind his back?" Baron asked. He didn't want to be selfish, he cared about the Luna as well. In as much as he already wanted her to himself, he didn't want to see her hurt either.
"If he cares so much about me, I wouldn't be here talking with you, I would be in the crowd, holding hands with him, eating, drinking and dancing with him. But he is there with his mate, he brought her here as his own date, even as I live and breathe. I can't wait for more damage to happen in my marriage before I take precautions." Avyanna spat out. She was annoyed by the thoughts of what her husband could be doing with the Omega at the moment.
Baron could sense Avyanna's pains and he wished he could take it away from her. He didn't need to see Ericson but he hated him already for doing this to Avyanna, his mate.
"Have you tried talking to him about this before?"
"My husband is selfish. He wants to have both his wife and his mate under his feet and I have to be the one to tell him that it isn't possible. He promised me that he was going to reject his mate anytime he found out who she was, but he broke his promise. The funniest part is that Ericson is my first and only love, so you must understand that this decision is also hurting me. The hurt doesn't matter anyway, this is a decision that I must make." Avyanna was preventing herself from getting too emotional in front of the Lycan Alpha as she spoke. She didn't want to incur his pity as well because she was trained to be independent, handling matters effectively on her own without any help.
"I still think you're going to hard on him. Can I ask you question?"
"Yes go ahead."
"If you were in your husband's shoes, what would you have done in this situation?"
"I would reject my mate the same day I find him because I know it won't be that easy afterwards."
Baron liked the way Avyanna addressed every situation. She spoke with wisdom and considered every single word that came out of her mouth.
"What did your husband say about his mate?"
"He is planning to keep her till... only the Moon Goddess knows when."
"What is her name and where does she come from?"
"Her name is Nancy, she is an Omega. I don't know where she is from exactly. My husband found her inside the woods."
"Your husband wants to choose an Omega over you?" Baron sounded so pained but he tried to conceal it because of the presence of his Beta and sister, "Gina how long have you been following us?"
"Quite sometime." Gina smiled. She was able to follow the trio stealthily as they walked away from the crowd.
"Yes, the mate bond is working well I guess." Avyanna said
Baron could not believe that Alpha Ericson would prefer an Omega over Avyanna. He wished that he had found the Luna before she had gotten into the mess. The Moon Goddess must have a reason for the Lycan Alpha to meet his mate now.
"May I call you Avyanna? I think at this point, we shouldn't be dealing with formalities since we would be working together in the future."
"Okay?" Avyanna seemed confused by the change of topic all of a sudden.
"This a very serious case, we will be dealing with together and we are going to become allies even when you have separated your pack from that of your husband's. I want you to be comfortable around me and as well forget about anything I did that may have bothered you about the kind of person that I am but I promise you one thing, I will help you get through this."
"What made you change your mind all of a sudden?"
"My Beta told me of how you saved my people some years back and as a King, it is my job to repay you for your kindness."
"Oh, I see." Avyanna, in a way, was disappointed at Baron's response, because He didn't pay attention to her emotions; he was helping her because he was just repaying a favour. Avyanna wondered why she cared about that in the first place.
"After he is done helping me, we won't have any reason to speak with each other." Avyanna thought to herself.
"Are you seeing anyone?" Baron asked.
"What! Hell no!" Avyanna felt embarrassed with that type of question from the king.
"That's good and it should remain that way."
"And why? If I may ask."
"You do not want your husband to suspect that you're leaving him soon, do you? I would advise you to keep things private for now." Baron said, trying to conceal his own reasons for saying that. He didn't want to see the Luna with any other man because she was meant for him. Although he had to give her time to learn and know the truth.
"Understood."
"Steve?" Baron stopped the stroll.
"Yes Boss?"
"Excuse us."
"Okay." Steve slowly walked away but he still stayed close by to watch were his Boss stepped.
"You too Gina."
"Aw, can't I just stay with my brother and his new found friend which is also my best ..."
"No. You may not." Baron cut in. He stopped and dashed an intense stare at Gina until she walked away slowly from him.
When Gina and Steve were away, he turned to Avy. He gazed into her eyes for a moment, feeling the strong pull of emotion.
He immediately controlled himself and said, "Shall we?" He offered his hand to Avy.
"What are you doing? Where are we going to?" Avyanna felt a blood rush, and her cheeks reddened as she slipped her palms into his.
"I am doing what your husband should have done."
