CHAPTER 62

CHAPTER SIXTY TWO
The war went on.
"Jonathan, what is it?" Avyanna asked in worry, rushing to his wounded body.
"We need to retreat. We cannot win this my Luna." Jonathan kept spitting blood. He had serious wounds on his chest. It was so obvious that he was confronted by a horde of wolves all at once, but that could not deter the powerful Zeta from surviving.
Even as he spat blood weakly, his wounds slowly healed, and in time, he was regaining his strength.
"Jonathan, we have to protect the kingdom!" Ayanna thought it was the best time to motivate. She had no idea what Jonathan had seen on the front lines; the terror that rocked the battlegrounds.
The hopelessness of the kingdom of Wales.
"Let's protect what is ours." She yelled and headed into battle.
"No! We can't win this." Jonathan said weakly, but the very eager Luna paid no attention, she was already headed into the battle. He then had no choice but to follow behind her and charge his men's batteries; "We fight until Wales is protected!" He chanted like he was sounding a war cry.
Avyanna and her people continued to fight a war she did not know was coming, a war she never saw coming; a war she quietly had prayed not to have.
She fought with all her strength and might, she was fighting without her wolf, and it was not an easy task for her to pull off. If she had her wolf, then probably she would not just encourage her people with the word of mouth, but with strength and action. The thought of not fighting with her wolf destabilized her. She tried so hard to concentrate on the battle, but it kept popping in and out of her head that Katie was not there to fight with her. Nevertheless, she had to remain in faith, she fought and so did her warriors.
“Move it, stand behind Jonathan, and take cover from the left and center angle,” Avyanna screamed and gave orders of formation as she fought, she observed that the warriors that opposed her warriors seemed to know what they would do before they did it, and she had to plot out a different formation that would save her and her pack, but it did not bear reward.
The warriors that opposed her pack became successful and invaded the kingdom of Wales, Avyanna asked her warriors to block and fight the attackers, so they do not raid the kingdom. As Avyanna fought, she observed that Vanessa was not around to fight by her side.
She continued, she fought and fought bravely but it was as if they increased in numbers, she looked around and saw that the team that opposed them, did not lose many of their men, but hers kept falling, and kept getting wounded.
Avyanna felt so sad, that she could not fight effectively, for without her wolf, she was not an Alpha and she couldn't let her people down either.
The more she stared in hopelessness at the battle, she yelled out a war cry and grabbed a sword. Then she swung it fiercely, courageously moving deeper into the heart of battle. She stabbed an attacker through the heart. She cut the arms and removed the head of the subsequent opposing warriors that stood before her.
Yes, fighting without her wolf was difficult, no doubt about the truth of it. It was a thing of bad luck not to have your wolf fight for you, but that did not mean she would let some bunch of unhealthy tyrants destroy her kingdom, regardless of her strength and their strength.
Avyanna prayed in her heart that her warriors would be strong enough to oppose the warriors that angrily fought to destroy them and the kingdom. The battle continued but it seemed like, the warriors that opposed them began to reduce in strength, they grew weak, and they had no idea what was happening.
This was the best time for Avyanna and her pack of warriors to fight and destroy and claim victory over the warriors that opposed them.
"This is our time!" She thundered as she held up her sword that was drenched in the sword of her enemies. The blood dripped from the sword down to her hands making her look like a very dangerous person.
That was good, she looked so dangerous and horrific, even without her wolf.
Avyanna was happy to see her men grow in strength tremendously, they fought with might and zeal. Avyanna’s warriors began to claim the hands, legs, and heads of the warriors that opposed them. Seeing her people had gained the upper hand in the battle, Avyanna became relaxed, she thought they would win the battle. She just stood and watch the enemies get slaughtered without putting much effort into the battle anymore.
Who could blame her? She was extremely exhausted already.
She had forgotten that she said a prayer in her heart to the Moon Goddess. She allowed pride into her heart, as though her men, wheeled their blades in strength from the start, she forgot that she was not the one that had to strengthen them. Her warriors were not even prepared or capable of the warriors that came for them.
They continued in battle and warriors of the Wales kingdom still had the upper hand in the battle, Avyanna kept praising the strength of her men in her mind, how could she have forgotten so quickly that her men were brutally slaughtered from the beginning of the fight, she still had a lot to learn and understand.
Avyanna began to panic as she saw that her men had become weaker than they were from the start, she stopped fighting and began to rescue her men, she took the wounded ones out of the battlefield, it was not an easy one for her, because for every man she removed from the field, she had to fight her way to him first.
She told Jonathan to head much deeper into the war front and stop the influx of multitudes that were upon them. Avyanna continued to rescue her men. She was not sure of what went wrong and why it went wrong. It was difficult to fathom how the battle's intensity was liquid; one moment, they were about winning the battle, and the next, they were beyond defeat. Avyanna got exhausted from the dozens of men she had to pull out of the battleground, her men reduced in number, and the warriors that opposed them increased.
How that happened she could not tell, and somehow the ones that opposed them removed their men that had fallen out of the field without interruption.
A lot of thoughts clouded the mind of the Alpha female, she could not do this on her own, she could not watch her men die, and she could not let them destroy the kingdom. Avyanna returned to the battlefield with a refreshed anger, she ran straight to the front and began to fight, swinging her blade and her spare at the same time, when she could reach for the arrow behind her back, she would do so, she shot, cut and stab whoever stood to stop her, Avyanna turned around to see her men still fall in their numbers, it weakened her faith and her strength began to fail her again. Tears rushed out of her eyes, what she could do?
Avyanna still fought although clouded with thoughts of retreat, she could not watch her men, her warriors, fall.
The battle was not planned for, actually, battles are not to be planned for, but somehow, she knew the men she had in her pack; they were not a vessel unto dishonor, they were not weak, they were men of great skill and discipline, but the way they fell, made her doubt if they could sustain the fight.
Just as she was frozen in her helplessness, she felt a sword drive through her right arm, then another went through her left leg.
The pain from the cut of the opposing warrior’s blade that went through her arm and leg, tearing right deep into her flesh and tissues, made her realize she was alone in the battle. That wasn't all, another warrior from behind her, drove her a cut behind her neck, close to her ear. Avyanna fell and her tears dropped on the earth, she screamed and yelled out of pain.
She was not only screaming because the pain from the blade was too sharp to bear, but because the loss of her warriors was also too much to bear. As she knelt on the ground, she looked up to the sky and screamed as loud as she could.
Her loud yell slowly turned into a weak howl.
"Katie?" She huffed silently, then yelled again in much pain, tears rolling down her eyes.
Avyanna's yell turned into a howl, but this time, it was much deeper. As the howl intensified, her body began to transform into that of her wolf. Into Katie.
Her skin immediately got covered in fur, and her canines turned into fangs. Her fingernails turned into very sharp claws as her fingers turned to paws.
Her bones cracked and resized and there she was, Katie.
A colossal white wolf in the heart of the battlefield, howling to the sky, then roaring at the opponents.
"Katie! Where have you been?"
"Let's win this battle first, it's a very long story."
"I have missed you."
